Quote: A question - do you have season tickets? Do you drive a 6 hour round trip 8 times per year to watch some of the crappiest football I have ever seen? Do you spend thousands and thousands of dollars on tailgating and tickets each and every year? To me, people that do this have more of a right to complain than anyone.
Quote: Browns fans have grown soft and weak...especially weak minded with a willingness to follow those who like to cry and complain because the Browns are seeing some tough times.
This describes the political philosophy you follow and try to promote. A bunch of whining crybabies that are offended by anything they don't like. They follow the liberal media, and fall hook line and sinker for their propaganda. They act as if they deserve everyones pity because someone else has success in their life and they don't. They don't feel they need to EARN anything, they just deserve it, and somehow they have a right to it.
This guy is pretty clever if you ask me. He has tapped into his fellow fans psyche and is profitting from it. He lets us laugh at the situation that consumes the team we love. He also is being an instrument for the fan base to let the powers that be understand where we stand.
Quote: This describes the political philosophy you follow and try to promote. A bunch of whining crybabies that are offended by anything they don't like.
A) Why did you feel the need to interject politics in this thread?
B) How does this not describe the Republican party to a T?
I mean, if you really want to talk about crybabies that are offended by anything they don't like, flip on FOX News and listen to them cry and whine over how there's a war on Christmas or how a rapper got invited to the White House or how the media treats them unfairly.
It always gets me when people on the right air grievances about the 'P.C.' left, like they're some kind of thin-skinned crybabies, and then they turn around and act like thin-skinned crybabies the first time someone puts 'Happy Holidays' on a card, or get offended when something or someone that they don't like gets promoted or highlighted.
No party holds any more water than the other when it comes to this. Faux outrage is a good political tool, as it gets the base fired up. Why you need to pretend that only one side epitomizes it is beyond me.
Quote: DC...labeling the Browns or Browns stadium as a "Factory of Sadness", is not accurate and not true from my perspective as a Browns fan..
What is it then? It hasn't been a factory of decent football for over 20 years.
Quote: DC...you got your Factory of Sadness T-shirt yet?
Nope.
Quote: he is preying on the weak minded who likely never fought for anything worthwhile in their lives and are feeling sorry for themselves
LOL.. Ok Gen. Patton. What exactly do I have to fight for? I don't get to make personnel decisions, I don't get to carry the ball, I don't even get to carry the water.. All I get to do is be mocked or given sympathy when I wear my Browns gear, which I still do.. and show up every fall hoping that we will win more than 5 games so I can claim that we are making progress.
Quote: It is a fact, with each passing generation, Americans become more sissified..softer, less willing to fight for a cause..weaker minded and easily swayed to following those who are like them.
Are you going to smack a fan across the face with your gloves? Tell me mac, who is raising these generations of sissys? Oh thats right, the previous tough generation is... good job with that.
Quote: I suppose it's the same situation when it comes to Browns fans...with each passing generation of Browns fan, they too become more likely to cry and whine when they don't get what they want...
I'm almost 46 years old and I really remember starting to like the Browns at about 10... in 36 years I can remember the Browns being in the playoffs about 7-8 times. People who are 30 and have been Browns fans all of their lives remember 1, maybe 2 playoff games... ever.
Quote: I suspect this "Factory of Sadness theme" is a generational thing, where the older Browns fans who go back to the 60s, 70s and 80s... in "no way" would allow themselves to identify with the "Factory of Sadness" theme.
I remember the 70s and 80s.. that's probably why I feel as bad as I do now.. because I remember what it felt like to be a preseason favorite, to have a chance to compete for a championship, to be respected as a team, to have something to brag about...
Quote: These same fans, crying about not getting their franchise QB...are the same fans demanding that the Browns didn't win enough games in 2011. You have to wonder if they understand how the draft process works?
They understand how it works, what they probably don't understand is how we have been so freakin' horrible at it for 13 years. Paying "experts" millions of dollars a year and we have next to nothing to show for our drafts of our first 10 years in the league.. We have a good LT.. other than that, not much other than the last 2 years.. hopefully things are changing.
Quote: ...and "NO", as Browns fans, we will be called upon to sacrifice more...YOU UP FOR THAT?
Yea mac, I'm ready to march 100 miles in the snow to Palermo to fight the damn Nazis. It's a freakin' football team mac.. get a GRIP.
I have had a passion for the Browns for 30 years and I suspect I always will but in the end, it's a football team, I follow it and watch it for fun... it's no fun winning 4 games year after year after year after year after year...
To all of you trying to have it both ways...claiming you're still that tough Browns fan you used to be but you need to feel sorry for yourselves too...
...CAN I GET YOU A TISSUE?
What part of "A FIVE YEAR PLAN"...do you not get?
The Browns are just entering year 3...not even half way through the process of rebuilding. In football years, the Browns are 2.1 yrs into the 5 yr plan.
I do not want to hear this crap that I've been waiting for 75 yrs and I want my Super Bowl in 2012, because you are a Browns fan and you deserve a Championship.
When Holmgren hired Heckert, they told everyone this team was on a 5 yr rebuilding plan...and they promised nothing to Browns fans, such as how many wins the team would have each year or who would be QB today, tomorrow or next year.
My experience in life has taught me that any goal one makes in life, comes with sacrifice and the higher the goal, the more we must be prepared to sacrifice.
I do understand we likely have some Browns fans who have never done anything difficult in their lives and can't relate to the sacrifices needed to turn the Browns into a playoff caliber team.
But you were told from the beginning what the deal was when Holmgren took over, so stop the crying and whining about everything under the sun. All your tears will not change a thing.
The Browns have a good start on the rebuilding of the Browns defense but the offense, for a number of very good reasons, is behind the curve. This season is not going to be great either...I hate to break that news to some of you...but prepare yourselves for reality.
I wonder how many of you understand the difference in the thought process required of top level decision makers vs the average fan's thought process.
...the biggest difference is the size of window the GM vs the fan, views the team through.
...the average fan is viewing the team day to day or week to week, allowing themselves to be caught up in the emotional roller coaster that comes with a narrow window viewpoint and winning or losing, week to week...
...the GM and front office personnel are viewing the team through a 2 to 5 yr window, aka THE BIG PICTURE viewpoint....knowing that a total rebuild, primarily through the draft takes time, but the lasting effect is a franchise, well positioned for "years of success".
Those of you who can't see yourselves as being able to hang tough for another 3 yrs or you didn't understand this was a 5 yr program...it might be best if you find another team to support...
...that way, the factory of sadness members could save themselves a lot of heartache and tears and the Browns fans wouldn't have to hear them...
Quote: What part of "A FIVE YEAR PLAN"...do you not get?
I'm curious mac, are we in the 13th year of our first five year plan or are we in the 3rd year of our 5th 5 year plan in 13 years...
Quote: My experience in life has taught me that any goal one makes in life, comes with sacrifice and the higher the goal, the more we must be prepared to sacrifice.
This whole Gen. Patton routine just keeps getting better. What goal did you make for yourself? By definition a "goal" has to be something where you have some control over the outcome. The only goal you can achieve as a Browns fan is the goal of watching football year after year, game after game, whether we suck or not.. and be happy about it.
Quote: I do understand we likely have some Browns fans who have never done anything difficult in their lives and can't relate to the sacrifices needed to turn the Browns into a playoff caliber team.
I swear, from way up on the pedestal where you have placed yourself, you act like you really have something to do with whether the Browns win or not... and that there is some nobility in watching lousy football for 20 years and being happy about it.... and that being happy about being terrible somehow makes you a better fan than being ticked off and frustrated about it to the point where you find creative ways to express that frustration.
Quote: Those of you who can't see yourselves as being able to hang tough for another 3 yrs or you didn't understand this was a 5 yr program...it might be best if you find another team to support...
I am reminded of the Jim McKay quote from many years ago with this line of thinking. When asked why he had a 5 year plan with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers he said "I have a 5 year plan because I have a 5 year contract. If I had a 3 year contract I would have a 3 year plan".
Some of us are tired, and rightfully so, with the ineptitude of this organization. Other teams turn it around, why not us? It's been 13 long years. I am old enough to remember the Brian Sipe and Bernie Kosar teams of the 80's and long for the feeling of winning that was there year after year. I will always be a Browns fan (but apparently a weak one ) and hope that my son will be as well. If he chooses not to be I cannot blame him which sickens me as I know how much I enjoy going to the games with my dad and hope that I will be able to share the same experiences with my son.
I don't want to throw the regime out. I just want them to do something - they really screwed up by not canning Mangini right away as that is what they wanted to do IMO. And I supported Mangini but knew he was not part of their plans. All of us want a winner no matter how much we may argue with one another on how it should be done. We have all been patient. We wouldn't be on this board if we were not.

Ok, it took me a while but I finally got in touch with some friends in Haiti, Sudan, North Korea, Venezuela and the middle east who fear imprisonment or death for speaking negatively about the government or practicing their faith and wonder where there next meal is going to come from and I explained the monumental sacrifice you make by rooting for a bad professional football team.. and when they were done laughing, they unanimously agreed that you sound like a sissy.
Disclaimer: I don't really have friends in all of those places, but I'm pretty sure they would feel that way.
