Police cite basketball star with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

HUNTINGTON -- Huntington High basketball star O.J. Mayo was cited by police late Friday on a misdemeanor drug possession charge.

A small amount of marijuana was found in a car Mayo was in, according to the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department.

Mayo, two adults and one juvenile were all in the car, which was parked along the 2200 block of Tenth Avenue, when police approached the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s department.

No one was taken into custody, but each person was cited for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

They must now appear in Cabell Magistrate Court to answer the charges. It’s unclear if a court date has been set.

Mayo and the other suspects were cited after a drug raid in that area. The raid was not related to the citations issued to Mayo and the others in the vehicle, police said.

Good example of someone "having it all", yet throwing it away. Maybe it wasn't his, but big deal. If it wasn't his, he's hanging out with the wrong people. O.J. meet pacman.

It's a shame. I've watched him in three games over the net this year, and he has game. He is a selfish type player, at least in the games I have seen. I have seen reports where he scored very well on his college entrance exams. I'm sure Tim Floyd might be sleeping lite tonight after this report came out. He is young, so hopefully he gets straightened out before he ends up to deep in the Pac man arena.

What an idiot.

I can't wait till he gets to college basketball and everyone sees how lazy he is, and sees that he's not going to be the player everyone expects him to be at the next level.

No big deal. Until its proven to be his its a stupid story. The young man is a helluva talent and the end result is that the media spotlight is awfully hot. Hey he's got friends who smoke pot. How many of the top 25 high school players in america can't say the same thing?

Im sure it was just like the Carmelo Anthony situation. Mayo was holding it for a friend, like when Anthony got caught with a baggy in his car that he let a friend borrow and in his bag in the airport that his friend borrowed and forgot to take his weed out.

Sheesh, there was a small amount of marijuana in every car I rode in when I was a senior in high school. They charged everybody in the vehicle. Did they find some seeds on the floor or something? There is not enough information to be passing judgement.

We need a blood stained glove, blood stained Bruno Mali footprints, no alibi, a strong motive....oh wait, that's not enough either.
