I keep thinking about Myles asking for a trade and how it might impact this year's selection.

If we take Carter, that would be good insurance if Myles starts asking for a trade again. It might even be the plan. Draft Carter after we have signed Myles to a long term deal and Myles has some say in where he goes. We have maximized his value with a long term deal and Myles gets to go to a contender.

If we do draft Carter, I wouldn't be surprised to see us trade Myles before the deadline to one of the teams in the playoff hunt. Given his long term deal, a team in the hunt might give a couple of 1sts and a 2nd, maybe more, and Myles would have a hard time rejecting the trade. Multiple teams would want Myles, so bidding could be very active.

I know Myles signed a long term deal, but a few short weeks ago he wanted out and nothing says he still doesn't want out to go to a contender. I don't know what Haslam, Berry, or Stefanski could have told him that would make him think we can contend in short order. I think Myles went this route to give him protection that he would go to a contender and the Browns now have a long term blue chip they can trade at maximum value.

Anyway, just a though during silly season.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I don’t think it’s an impossibility.

I remember suggesting here that maybe they have a little side-agreement in place, along the lines of “stay for now but if we aren’t winning early next season, we’ll trade you.”
