I keep thinking about Myles asking for a trade and how it might impact this year's selection.
If we take Carter, that would be good insurance if Myles starts asking for a trade again. It might even be the plan. Draft Carter after we have signed Myles to a long term deal and Myles has some say in where he goes. We have maximized his value with a long term deal and Myles gets to go to a contender.
If we do draft Carter, I wouldn't be surprised to see us trade Myles before the deadline to one of the teams in the playoff hunt. Given his long term deal, a team in the hunt might give a couple of 1sts and a 2nd, maybe more, and Myles would have a hard time rejecting the trade. Multiple teams would want Myles, so bidding could be very active.
I know Myles signed a long term deal, but a few short weeks ago he wanted out and nothing says he still doesn't want out to go to a contender. I don't know what Haslam, Berry, or Stefanski could have told him that would make him think we can contend in short order. I think Myles went this route to give him protection that he would go to a contender and the Browns now have a long term blue chip they can trade at maximum value.
Anyway, just a though during silly season.

I don’t think it’s an impossibility.
I remember suggesting here that maybe they have a little side-agreement in place, along the lines of “stay for now but if we aren’t winning early next season, we’ll trade you.”

I concur. My preferred outcome from this draft would be: 1. Abdul Carter 2. TreVeyon Henderson 3. Will Howard or the QB from 'Bama
We do NOT need a "superstar" QB in Stefanski's scheme. We need a guy that can just understand his job and get it done. Every QB except DTR & Watson has proven that. "Good enough" will be great.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

I agree. If you look at it in basketball terms, everybody wants the point guard who drops 30, but having a guy who can set the O and have 10 assists a night get's it done as well.

I am not a big fan of Ski ( on the record ) , but I think Howard would be great fit for his Scheme .. He might be if we decide to punt on not drafting a QB until the 3rd round. We have 2 picks and could decide to use one on Howard. He has talent and is a good leader. Given time to develop he might be a pretty good starter in Stefanski's O. If we don't draft someone sooner, that points to a QB next year where there are probably 4-5 guys who rate higher than any of this years QBs. Howard will probably be a back-up, maybe a lower end starter to middle of the road starter. Either way that has value to a team. I know everybody wants to be a starter, but being a QB, back-up is a pretty good gig that can last 15 years. I would hope that teams start to value that a little more. It's important. It's not like a back-up back or lineman. Games can hinge on them if called upon.

I agree, he has a chance to be a good QB. One of those guys you bring in, give it 2-3 years and see what you have. At minimum he should be a good back-up.

He had better numbers than people rated above him but then again he had the prefect scenario for that to happen. It makes it very hard for me to guesstimate his potential in the NFL.
73.1% completion rate.... 4010 yards...... 35td's and 10int's is nothing to sneeze at. But he had a great running game their opponents had to account for and his WR's were superb.
Very hard for me to forecast what he might or might not do in the NFL.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
