Stay cool and hydrated, my NW Ohio Dawgs. It’s downright dangerous out there.

Not the same kind of heat you get down there but for the next few days where I am it’s supposed to be in the mid-30s Celsius. Double that and add 30 it’ll be close to 100 Fahrenheit, with crappyily-high humidity.

Working on it. And guess who gets to get dressed up in plate umpire gear couple of afternoons/evenings this week.

Our church is on a mission trip right now, helping people in WV who havehad major problems with their homes.

A few years ago, they went to repair a bathroom, and wound up replacing the entire floor in this lady's house. crazy

Please pray for them to stay safe in this weather.

Arch, you deserve a big red 'S' on your chest protector for doing that in this weather. Thanks for doing it for the kids! Everybody loves an ump (like it isn't hot enough already).

What motivates you to do that? Easier ways to pass a steamy afternoon. Must be the adoring fans, I bet. You have my respect, man. thumbsup

I could write a book about it. But, I'm interested in it, I CAN do it, and people NEED to do it. And yes, I'm licensed, for 8 years now, by the OHSAA. Baseball and softball umps - probably the only ones that start off wearing long underwear under the unis, and in the late spring and summer, hate that they even agreed to do games due to the heat. On weeks like this one, it's nothing to lose 5-7 pounds during a game if you have the plate. All water weight, obviously. And too often un appreciated, primarily by fans that don't know the rules. Can't do anything about them. Coaches? If they have a question and are respectable about it, no problem. Go off like a loose cannon? (especially on judgement calls), they get a stare, maybe a "that's it", or maybe a "see ya". Never ejected a coach in 8 years, though.

No doubt, especially for you fellow dawgs who don't experience temps like this all that often. Mid to upper 90's is pretty routine here in SE Tennessee June until mid Sept. so we know the routine. Drink a few extra bottles of water, start the day early and try to stay inside come 2PM.

I'll be heading out for a morning walk in about 15 minutes while it says it is 71 outside.

Stay safe.

Thanks, Arch. It takes something special "to step up to the plate" so to speak. having enough refs and officials to cover games and matches is a challenge and a headache. Lots of kids in lots of sports learn lots of lessons for life. These may be some of their most valued lessons. The extreme majority are not going to play in college, while fewer will ever crack the Bigs. What you give every kid who competes in a well-supervised contest is the chance for positive outcomes and character building. Folks like you make it all possible and give it value. Hats off and thanks! And Arch. . . try to stay warm out there! LOL

Well, for me, today was the worst day so far this week. At my real job, I sweat all day, then I had the plate tonight at a softball game. Truck read 97 F at game time.

Good news is, tomorrow should be the last of the real bad stuff.

Was 96 and 99 the last two days. Above normal the last two days, but not by much. It's just 90 something for the next 3 months.

I looked at the average temperature for Nashville in the summer months. June: 87.6 degrees. July: 90.2 degrees. August: 89.7 degrees.

It sure seems to me it's been hotter than that in the summer for the several years since I've been here though. It's been in the mid to upper 90's for a couple of weeks now with the exception of a couple of days. But I will say those temps took much longer to get here than usual. We actually had something that resembled spring for a change.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

It was hot and muggy when we left the dock last night. Once we were free of the creek it was wonderful in the apparent breeze. By the time our down wind return tack happen it had cooled down some so that wasn't stifling.
