I believe that was just a joke by GM and the emoji is directed hat himself.... just how i read it.
And I am with everyone and anyone that says trade back for the right offer. Would love a 9-14 pick in the draft this year with an additional first rounder next year or multiple 2s this year.
100 percent correct Sir.
I get that. It is an argument that has been thrown around seriously by others, though.
I felt the idea deserved to be addressed, with a bit of my own black "humor" thrown in.
Generally, I'm in favor of the trade back. With where we're at in it and the way the talent in this draft seems to stack, it doesn't make as much sense as usual to me.
Carter and Hunter appear to be clear and away the best prospects in the class. They'd likely be the best prospects in next year's class. Even if we add future picks they are unlikely to be as impactful as those two could be. If you could guarantee the first pick next year, and a QB being available there that is "worthy" of the pick, sure a deal would make sense. Unfortunately, both those things seem doubtful to me at this point.
Obviously, a lot can change in a year, but both those things hitting for us seems unlikely. It feels more likely to end up like the Julio Jones trade. The theoretical value of the trade was good, but ultimately, I'd have rather just guaranteed the great player.
I feel like there is a trickle down effect in a sense. Great players assist in letting "lesser" players perform better as opponents attention is directed towards the game changer.
I.e, I think Travis Hunter helped Shedeur look better than he would have with more middle of the road receivers. I think he helps whoever ends up being the QB more than any other result is likely to.
To me, it's all about finding the QB. To me, Hunter makes it easier for whoever that is to succeed. He gives you more margin for error at QB. He helps set it up for "any" QB (above a certain threshold, whatever that may be) to be in a better position to succeed.
To me the decision is would you rather have Justin Jefferson or (prime) Von Miller. I think this team needs offense in the worst way. Sure, Stefanski has shown he can at times manufacture offense. I think Hunter has the potential to provide "instant" offense. He can make a play when what happens on the field isn't schematically ideal. Throw in that we already have Myles Garrett and Travis Hunter/"JJ" might also be able to provide some Ed Reed style impact to your D in spots and that's where I lean.
I don't want to pass on him for future potential Phil Taylors, Brandon Weedens, and Trent Richardsons.
