is backtracking from bashing Haslam. But methinks the cat's out of the bag. It's no secret they hate one another and Banner is loving whatever "I told ya so" aspects he can find right now.

Not trying to be mean or insensitive to you, it's not my intention. But I couldn't care less about what Banner has to say about this team. He's a talking head now, and talking heads' opinions mean nothing to me.

Some Banner facts before anyone tries to make him look like a hero:

- he denied a great trade down proposal from the Rams and took Bark Mingo who's backing up a player who was waived 5 (!) times in this league. When that player (Solomon) went down, it was A.Bryant getting most of his snaps. To his credit. Bryant was the only other notable selection from his 2013 draft

- he then drafted a CB in round 3 that is out of the league already. Right after him there were about a dozen pretty good starting players selected, Mathieu and Terrance Williams among them. Farmer style waste of a high pick (it was an early 3rd)

So, who did he call a moron? Farmer? Didn't he bring him in to begin with? And wasn't he quick to point that out when he was fired and Farmer got elevated?

I wonder how long Banner will have this job?

Here is the PFT account of Banner's tweet.

Joe Banner deletes “moron” tweet, goes into damage control mode

Posted by Zac Jackson on September 14, 2015, 12:52 PM EDT

Former Eagles and Browns executive and current ESPN analyst Joe Banner had a little Twitter slipup Monday, tweeting to his more than 27,000 followers something that was almost certainly intended to be a private direct message.

Banner was calling somebody “a moron,” apparently in response to a question about this particular moron’s advisors. The full tweet, which Banner deleted but not before it was screenshotted, read: “True, but he is a moron on his own. He has many advisors, but Alec is his top advisor by a lot. Don’t agree with the no advisors outside…”

Considering Banner was CEO of the Browns before he was fired by Browns owner Jimmy Haslam in early 2014, the context of the accidental tweet suggests Banner was calling Haslam a moron. A still relatively new owner, as Haslam is, would have plenty of advisors, and someone did apparently did once tell Haslam it would be OK to let Banner run his football operation.

But someone “close” to Banner immediately went into damage control mode and apparently expects people to believe Banner was actually referring to the team’s analytics group. If Banner wasn’t talking about Haslam, he was talking about someone who’s been picking the players and/or making key decisions within the Browns.

In the original tweet, “Alec” is presumably Alec Scheiner, the Browns president who was hired during Banner’s time with the Browns and is the man behind the team’s bold logo change. Offseason stories from inside the Browns’ building indicate Scheiner is close with both Haslam and Ray Farmer, who became general manager when Banner and Mike Lombardi were fired.

Banner went back to Twitter later Monday morning to claim he was “absolutely” not talking about Haslam and asking followers to “stop trying to create something where there is nothing.” Even funnier than that tweet are the responses below it.

Like the Browns, Banner is an easy target. But he’s stirred up folks in Twitterland before, and given how Browns fans must have been feeling Monday morning, the responses are understandable. Banner loves to tweet about how he left the Browns in tremendous shape and insinuate that he’s not responsible for the current state of the team, and he apparently sees at least one “moron” still in the building as being at fault.

Since Banner's departure he has always maintained that Alec is the only one JH trusts and truly listens to. Right now most would say JH may not trust Ray-ray and the cheating/inaccurate moves, nor poor Pettine who looks like a nice guy in over his head after losing 6 straight. Ray-ray left a power vacuum since being ironically relegated to throw-away cell phone communications right now, but Pettine and his staff can't fill the vacuum and look under-prepared.

No doubt, Banner is calling Haslam a moron.

The "Alec" Banner was referring to was the Browns President, Alec Scheiner, who Banner hired.

Let's see if Banner and ESPN can talk their way out of this one.

I only said that because of the three stooges thing... Banner looks most like Moe and Haslam looks most like Larry. "Moron" was one of Moe's go-to's.

And FTR, I thought the three stooges thing was awful and unprofessional when it happened, but when they actually play it out in real life, well...

berea...this from a article that was posted when Scheiner was hired by the Browns.

Joe Banner may be let go from ESPN any day now ... with the close ties between the NFL and ESPN, you never can underestimate what an owner could do

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Mac, well this sure seems odd then for a guy who only handles the business side.

milkman...the fact that Scheiner is watching film does not change the fact that his area of expertise is business, not making football decisions. I'm sure his input on football decisions is minimal.

Banner's tweet said: “True, but he is a moron on his own. He has many advisors, but Alec is his top advisor by a lot. Don’t agree with the no advisors outside…”

Banner, who was from the business side, himself...is embellishing Scheiner's role...in an effort to show that those with a business background are capable of advising on the football side.

But there is no doubt about who he was calling a moron..Haslam!

Did not believe, listen to, or support him when here. Now he is relevant? He will manage to lose his job here as well I suspect. Another talking head who is worth less,
well than whatever he is paid.

What did he say that was incorrect?

I could care less if he is politically correct. All I know is that this guy had a great plan for the Browns and it was "moronic" to fire him and replace him w/the idiot Farmer.

How was demanding that the coordinators report directly to him, and not the head coach, a great plan?

Lost in the mix at times, Farmer replaced Browns GM Lombardi, not Banner.

Also, what Haslam did was eliminate the CEO position in an effort to streamline the organization...Banner was the CEO.

Here is an updated story...

Joe Banner deletes 'moron' tweet, says it was not about Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam

By Dan Labbe, Northeast Ohio Media Group
updated September 14, 2015 at 2:50 PM

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Former Browns CEO Joe Banner normally isn't shy on Twitter, especially when it comes to taking victory laps over moves he's made in his life as a football executive. So it was no surprise when a Tweet sent out by the now-ESPN analyst on Monday morning raised a few eyebrows:

Joe Banner tweet
Twitter.com

The Browns team president, of course, is Alec Scheiner, which made it easy to jump to conclusions.

The tweet didn't stay up for long and Banner attempted to clarify it quickly:

Joe Banner ✔@JoeBanner13
My deleted message was absolutely not about Jimmy, so stop trying to create something where there is nothing.

So who was Banner tweeting about? We may never know for certain, but Twitter was quick to respond:

Zac Jackson @AkronJackson
Joe Banner. The real Twitter MVP.

James Bruce @brewsee
Joe Banner is Cleveland's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Regardless of who he was referring to, @JoeBanner13 calling someone in charge of #Browns a moron is priceless

I think he was good on a couple of things in theory, but still was not a great eye for talent. His draft isn't much better than Farmer's. They're both crappy.

For all Heckert is ripped, he landed an NFL front office job right away once we parted ways with him. Joe Banner just learned how to tweet and that's pretty much his job now. If other teams in the league thought he was brilliant, he'd be brought on board.

The trade, the study on QB's, Brian Hoyer, and more were good moves. But the end result is they didn't really transform this football team (perhaps following the study would have). But the structure while they were here and odd consensus talk wasn't getting us anywhere either.

Politicians are puppets, y'all. Let's get Geppetto!
