What are the thoughts around here on this guy?
Excellent deep ball, good pocket presence and willing to take the hit.
OTOH, he really stares down his receivers and waits for them to break open than throwing open a lot of times. Doesn't throw the ball with anticipation consistently. And he has quite the wind up on him.
Me personally...I don't know. I can see him going either way. If Flip can coach him into making reading defense and throwing with anticipation a habit, he could be a franchise QB IMO. Or he could be another Weeden/Couch who throws too many INTs because they stare their receivers down.
you had a good run Hank.

If Petty cannot be acquired within a reasonable round, then I'd like Grayson as the next option.
More I think about it, the more I don't believe this staff will even think about a Qb, not even Mariota as the gossip indicates. We'll see soon enough.

Just saw him on Gruden's show ... I really like his demeanor. Not sure he's good enough talent-wise, but I enjoyed his answers and he seems intelligent/perceptive
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I dont know why people buy into Winston. I watched his interview with Gruden and felt like he was a mixture between a used car salesman and a complete psychopath.
Grayson has a bit of a chip on his shoulder. I like that. kid has some upside.

I haen't watched the Gruden interview but have seen Winston in other interviews. I don't know if I would go as far as to say psychopath but I totally get the used car salesman thing. This readily apparent lack of sincerity. Not a guy that I want leading my team. I can see the same issues developing with Winston and his coaching staff(s) that RGIII has had with his coaches.

There is a part of the show where he is calling his girlfriend and saying if she doesnt answer she is probably cheating and I know it is presented as something funny but there is something actually scary in his eyes when in that scene.

Another reason to love him: Stephens: Garrett Grayson sees NFL draft stock rising Matt L. Stephens, The Coloradoan 8:09 a.m. MDT April 13, 2015 NCAA Football: Las Vegas Bowl-Utah vs Colorado State (Photo: Joe Camporeale/USA TODAY Sports) 59 CONNECT 35 TWEET LINKEDIN COMMENT EMAIL MORE ENGLEWOOD – Garrett Grayson knows he's a better quarterback than Brett Hundley and Bryce Petty. He didn't mind that he wasn't one of 16 quarterbacks named Davey O'Brien Award semifinalists last fall, or that he played football at CSU instead of at a Power 5 conference. Grayson feels confident that, behind Heisman Trophy winners Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston, he's the best option under center in this month's NFL draft. Grayson is confident enough, but there were still doubts about how his game would translate to the next level. Scouts, for instance, have commented on his passing delivery — more of a long, fluid motion than a quick snap. But those doubts vanished after spending only four hours with Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden. COLORADOAN Stephens: Grayson can be Colorado State's claim to fame Grayson was one of five players invited to ESPN's "Jon Gruden's QB Camp" on March 30, joining Mariota (Oregon), Winston (Florida State), Hundley (UCLA) and Petty (Baylor) for a chance to showcase their football IQ on national television. Breaking down film with a Super Bowl-winning coach was surreal, Grayson said, but the pleasure was all Gruden's. "(Gruden) was really looking forward to talking and working with me because he said he's not a fan of the spread offense at all. He was excited to turn on my film and see pro-style concepts and protections and watch me make checks," Grayson said Sunday, while watching Colorado State University's spring practice at the Denver Broncos' practice facility. "He said he had all the faith in the world that I could play at the next level." When NFL coaches and executives have questions about drafting a quarterback, Gruden is the man they call. And of the five quarterbacks invited to his camp, Grayson's experience in Jim McElwain's pro-style offense set him apart. Former CSU quarterback Garrett Grayson (blue shirt)Buy Photo Former CSU quarterback Garrett Grayson (blue shirt) watches the Rams scrimmage Saturday at Dove Valley with former Rams kicker Jared Roberts, left, and Joel Dreessen (Photo: Lenn Stout/For the Coloradoan) Petty might have played in the Big 12, but Baylor used one-word plays, Grayson said, and didn't give its quarterback the liberty of changing protection calls at the line of scrimmage. Baylor suffered when opponents blitzed because Petty wasn't sure how to handle it — his job duties didn't involve determining a corrective course of action. COLORADOAN Nick Stevens taking charge in Colorado State QB race That was never a problem for Grayson at CSU, who was allowed to take his time between plays and read a defense, frequently calling audibles without the help of his coaches. NFL defenses will be smarter, sure, but Grayson has already proven he can successfully navigate a learning curve. Grayson has worked out for the San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins with impressive results. He's keen on NFL terminology, protections and reads; the only attribute he needs to tune up is his delivery, which is keeping professional teams optimistically cautious. They shouldn't be so hesitant. Grayson didn't become the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, throwing for 4,006 yards, 32 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a senior, by luck. Unlike Hundley and Petty, he wasn't protected by four- and five-star linemen and didn't have the luxury of throwing to blue-chip wide receivers — though Rashard Higgins blossoming as a Biletnikoff Award finalist certainly helped. He played at CSU, a program that, until he took over as the starting quarterback, was looked at as a joke. Not anymore. Grayson led the rally to change that perception, overcoming injuries, recent tradition and a fan base that wanted him benched, to make the Rams respectable. He's exactly the quarterback — from skills to charisma — NFL franchises are looking for. If they don't realize it yet, they will when they see him impress Gruden on April 18. http://www.coloradoan.com/story/sports/csu/football/2015/04/11/garrett-grayson-nfl-draft/25650093/I'm all in on this guy. I really think he has what it takes to be our franchise guy.
you had a good run Hank.

I have seen mocks with us taking Grayson in round 2 and others still having him available late in round 4. I like this kid, he played a pro style O, he seems smart, good arm, accurate. I think rd 2 is early but I'd like to be able to get him.

He seems to have the mental side ready to go, the kind of guy that will come in and dive in the playbook..
So.. Does he have the physical skill to come in right away and play?
Because if he does, I say take him in the 3rd, and give him every opportunity to have a shot as the starter..
We aren't going to have some complex offense. Run based. Play action, etc..
Why can't a guy like Grayson come in and beat out McCown and Co.?
(I'm actually asking those who know more about him, not speaking in riddles)
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Physically, he is ready to play outside of his wind up, and that can be fixed/worked on.
Mentally, he still needs some refinement, but he could come in start, I think. We would have to have a really strong running game and not force the issue through the air, but yeah, he could come in and beat everyone out, I think.
you had a good run Hank.

Why didn't Seattle take Wilson in the first round?
Because they didn't have to..

Perhaps I'm way off as I've never seen him play..but I don't see nothing much with Grayson..IMHO he's more of a Josh Heupel than say Andrew Luck...he seems to have to throw alot of unphhh into his passes...then again its a weak class QB wise. So he may be better than a lot of those other middle round guys haha

People are trying to pump guys up because there is really no one out there. The third QB in this draft would have been like seventh in last year's draft.

How can you state that you don't see much and then state that you haven't seen him play?
Don't rely on national guys to do your scouting for you. Grayson is a better player than he is given credit for.
As to the other debate on where he would have ranked last year? Somewhere between Carr and Jimmy G, probably.
you had a good run Hank.

Garoppolo is easily the third best QB in this draft. It's not close.

I disagree. Grayson is more ready than Jimmy G. Although he may not have the upside, I'd still take Grayson over Jimmy for this team.

I watched his interview with Gruden and felt like he was a mixture between a used car salesman and a complete psychopath. Or stimulant withdraw? Good thing Haden is on the team to help him mask it, by unfortunate chance Cleveland gets him.
