Vick among 3 released by Dolphins

May 1, 2007

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- Marcus Vick's stint with the Miami Dolphins is over.

Vick, signed last season as a free agent receiver after a troubled career as Virginia Tech's quarterback, was among three players waived by the Dolphins on Tuesday.

The Dolphins also released defensive tackle Manny Wright and linebacker Bobby Iwuchukwu.

Vick appeared in one game with the Dolphins after spending some of the year on practice squad.

Vick was kicked off Virginia Tech's team following his junior year after repeated brushes with the law and other misbehavior. Last December, a 17-year-old girl who claimed she had a two-year sexual relationship with Vick filed a $6.3 million lawsuit against him, alleging sexual battery upon a minor, infliction of emotional distress, fraud and other charges.

Wright was reduced to tears on the practice field during the 2005 season when scolded by then-coach Nick Saban, and asked to be released or traded away last season. He did not play in the 2006 season, and was with the Dolphins for their first minicamp under new coach Cam Cameron last month.

Iwuchukwu spent last year on practice squads in San Francisco and Baltimore and signed with the Dolphins earlier this offseason.

Tell that to all the babies whining because we gave up too much to get Brady Quinn. I guess settling for mediocrity is easier for some people to swallow.

wasn't Manny Wright one of the somewhat pimped guys last year??

I seem to recall people pimping him for DE or something... or maybe I'm thinking of someone else?

Must because of how many times you said "upside" I have to ask.. .did you hear the NFL draft drinking game they had on Bob and Tom? It was like, you had to drink anytime someone said "upside" or "potential" and stuff like that. It was pretty funny.

Geez, not only does Wright get cut, the writer of this article announcing it goes out of his way to point out that he cried 2 years ago. Bummer of a day for that guy.

Who wants to bet Vick ends up with the Bengals, Ratbirds, or heaven forbid with big brother in Atlanta?

I can see him eventually playing QB in the California penal league---kind of like Rick Vaughn.
