Guess this says it for either Hardesty or Lewis's season.

BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns on Sunday re-signed free agent Jamaine Cook, the club announced. In addition, the team waived defensive back Kenronte Walker.

Cook, a 5-9, 210-pound running back is in his rookie season out of Youngstown State, originally signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent on April 30. He was waived May 21.

Cook finished second in Youngstown State history with 4,052 career rushing yards, while adding 39 touchdowns on 811 attempts. He totaled more than 1,200 rushing yards and at least 11 rushing scores in each of his three seasons as a starter.

A native of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, he graduated from Midpark High School.

I remember him from earlier ... or at least his name.

Someone to carry the ball in the 2nd half of the remaining preseason games so your real RB's don't have to, and probably not much more.

Two injured RB, let's not neglect this guy has a chance of playing beyond preseason depending how Jackson and Oby (our only backups now and Oby plays FB now too) fend.

I'd expect them to be bringing in a guard too in the days to come...

It doesn't make much sense to look for regular season depth before final cuts. The best available aren't available yet. I think there's probably a reason that guys brought in at this point are available. What does make sense, imo, is to bring guys in that can man a position in garbage time and save your regulars and backups from risking injury in meaningless games. I believe the Dawgtalkers jargon for them is "training camp fodder".

Nice. A YSU guy.

(Insert local player incessant pimping)

He's small, and slower ...... and mainly a runner ... (not much of a blocker and receiver)

He was with the Browns this spring for a hot second, IIRC.

I wouldn't read any more into it then he's a camp/preseason game body..

But, he's local so I hope some good comes out of it for the kid.. That would be nice. I always root for local kids to do well..

We just lost two running backs. It makes sense we'd add one.

Sure,, for camp and preseason games.. How many do you think we'll carry in the regular season?

Trich for sure. Obi, Jackson and maybe Smelly or Maricic

That's why I'm saying I'm not reading much into this signing. But, like I said, Local kid=me rooting for him.

He's a local kid who grew up a Browns fan ..... and he was a better player at YSU than his measurables indicate ..... but he's still a small back without much speed.

They need a change of pace RB so why not bring in players like Javon Ringer (former MSU player) or Kevin Smith (formerly with Lions)??? I would love to have a player like Chris Rainey but the Steeler's cut him after an off the field issue.

He doesn't fit the bill as a change of pace RB, but Beanie Wells is still a free agent. Not sure if he's hurt or not, though.

Dave, I wouldn't mind signing guys like Beanie Wells or Willis McGahee but the Browns already have similar RB's.

Might want him for the practice squad to start season as well.

Maybe, but probably not. My guess is to give him some looks and carry a load the rest of the way.

My guess is we stand pat until after all final cuts are made, and then start reviewing practice squad rosters. Those are the guys teams didn't really want to cut, but had no choice but to move down a notch.

Teams good and deep at back and guard/interior line are probably going to get worked over by us if they have players at those positions stashed away.

Miguel Maysonette is still on the team, well he played in the last pre-season game. Maybe this means that if one or both of Dion Lewis and Montario Hardesty must go to injured reserve, then maybe Maysonette will make the team and Cook will go to the practice squad. When previously they may have slotted Maysonette to the practice squad. Hmm, I'm just speculating.

Ryan Miller is injured, Shaun Lauvao is injured, and Jason Pinkston is injured. I wish they could dial 1-800- quarterback, I mean offensive Guard and get a solid NFL starter we could believe in.

Bill Parcells once said, " teams have been trying to dial 1-800 quarterback, for years" or something like that.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Pretty much all solid starting guards are already on teams.

That said, once final rosters are established, we will be reviewing the cut players and the practice squads.
