Looks pretty good less than a year removed from football. Pretty rare to see a lineman (or any player, look at Shaun King) lose weight after their playing days.

I want the Cleveland Browns to be my pallbearers so they can let me down for the last time.

good for him. Mike Golic also has lost some weight, but not that much in one year.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Good for him. It's nice to see someone taking care of themselves (even if for about 20 years he beat the hell out of it).

Good for him. His body thanks him also, I'm sure.

I have a friend that, in high school, was 6' 6", graduated at about 220 lbs. Played O line at B.G. He played, as a sr., at 6' 6", 315 lbs. Did not get drafted, but was invited to the Giants training camp. Cut released early.........

Moved back, got married, thought about having a family. Went to get life insurance - and couldn't afford it due to his blood pressure, and other factors.

He's now 6' 6", about 225 and one of the healthiest people I know.

Sheesh now that is some weight loss. And there was rumors that he would be resigned and brought outta retirement? He'd get owned playing any of the line positions at that body weight!

Good for him however!

My cousin played at James Madison, he was their captain and center, within 2 years of him being done with football, he must have dropped 60 pounds easily.

I started a diet on Friday and have already lost 5.5 pounds. My goal is 20 pounds in 7 weeks with no exercise. I did it in 8 weeks last year. If a person actually dedicates themselves to losing weight, they can have some pretty unbelievable results. With Saturday being a football player, I'm sure he knows how to handle his diet and exercise to maximize results.

The first lbs always come off the quickest because they're usually water weight. The first line of defense against starvation isn't fat, it's glucose stores in many tissues of the body. In order for our bodies to store glucose, it also has to store water at the same time in order to maintain normal cell osmolarity. When you first start fasting in order to lose weight your body turns to these glucose reserves that are stored in your liver, muscle and fat. When the glucose is released, so is all that stored up water. Thus, you can easily lose 5-10 lbs in a week or so as your body rids itself of these energy reserves. After you plateau, that's when you start dipping into fat reserves.

Keep at it I'm doing the same thing roughly, but with exercise added in and I'm going until at least Thanksgiving.

No big suprise many ex NFL lineman now weight less that the RB, WR, DB's and QB's do now.. Many of the lineman really had to work to keep their weight up while many of the skill players have packed on the pounds once they retire.

I understand, I used to be a personal trainer. My point is that I can lose 20 pounds in two months with no exercise involved. I imagine that Saturday is exercising and knows how to eat, so he can have tremendous results. My statement was to answer the post where someone wondered what these guys are putting their bodies through. It's probably not that much, actually.

Ah, good deal

Yeah, I think the most long-term damage these guys do to themselves (and each other) revolve mostly around joints or the brain. Weight generally isn't an issue as long as the fat is stored in the places its supposed to be and not in areas like the liver, bones, or muscle. When someone puts on a ton of weight and gets up around 300lbs the body always ends up with some fat in places it shouldnt be and that's when you start developing things like diabetes. More often than not an extremely overweight person can drastically decrease their chances of fat-related metabolic disorders by losing 15-20% of their total weight as most bodies will preferentially metabolize the fat stored in bad areas first, then start on the dermal fat pads after. So things like liver disease and diabetes essentially go away even without dropping down to a normal BMI. Now, that's not to say these people still won't have cardiac, inflammation and blood pressure issues, it just gets rid of the metabolic disorder issue. Even though he may have had that weight on for 10-15 years, he's probably in the clear now.
