I just wanted to give a little update.

my dad had a stroke yesterday. He was life flighted to OSU medical center. He is stage right now, but he has lost his ability to speak. His speech therapist is pretty confident he will get most of that back in time. He knows what's going on, recognizes everything, he just can't get the words out he wants to say. He right arm is also pretty weak.

both of his legs are strong though and Dr thinks he will walk no problem. He will have a tough road moving forward to recover. He is very lucky I happened to be there, I just had this weird feeling something wasn't right and decided to check on him.

its so frustrating to see my dad go from a happy, gardening, grass cutting, fishing, fullly fictional man to this in a matter of about an hour. Its got me torn apart on the inside know I directly can't do anything about It...we were just playing fetch the ball with the dogs the night before... hell he told me he cleaned out his garage and washed his car Thursday afternoon...

all I can hope is he recovers so he can have a good quality of life and still be able to do the things he enjoys.

life is short...never take for granted what you have.

I pray that he has a full recovery.

Sorry to hear this, I'll say some prayers for you and your father. Having full leg strength is a good sign, as is what the speech therapist said. Can he write responses to questions?

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

To answer jfanets question, yes he can write some stuff. He wrote out my name yesterday with no help. Speech Therapy was in yesterday putting two different objects in front of him and asking him to pick one of them (he picked up the correct object 10 out of 10 times) He knows what day and year it is, knows his birthday, knows who all of us are, he knows everything that is going on, all his cognitive abilities are there, he is just having trouble speaking.

Yesterday he clearly said to my sister "I want to go home" he couldn't even speak the word home two days ago and has yet to really start his rehab. So its good news and i'll take any I can get right now.

He has walked a few times, he may need some help for while. His right arm is still weak and he is going to have to be worked with to not ignore his right side. His peripheral vision doesn't seem to be affected at all.

I think the big things will be his speech and walking...speech moreso then walking as they say it takes the longest to get back, and it may never be perfect again, but they seem confident he will be able to hold a conversation in the future.

Its just a day by day thing. I'll try and keep folks updated here, from myself and my family thanks so much to everyone here for their kind words. Its means the world to us.

Glad to hear that. My father-in-law passed away in November after a stroke and from having a heart too weak to help get him better. It's rough to see. Best wishes.
