No I never pimped Alfred at all, I was just trying to see if others thought taking a RB in the 1st Round gives you the best chance to get value. In other words, in a typical draft is the top RB compared with the 5th RB a bigger dropoff than the top CB/OLB/FS/WR than the 5th one?
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

jmo. its one of the few things the last FO did that made sense. what they were doing was trying to take the pressure off weeden by bringing in the best RB in the draft. they knew colt wasn't it and went for the best help they could for the old rookie they were bringing in.
being a browns fan is like taking your dog to vet every week to be put down...

I don't think it was a wasted pick, because he will probably be a solid player. However, it was as dumb as the day is long. I was a RB and I love RBs. It's not an easy position to play. You get the snot beat out of you. However, RBs seem to be an easy position to find. Look around the NFL. There are excellent backs who were acquired via trade or in free agency, or found in the late rounds, or even as undrafted free agents.
I was going off before the draft last year about trading down and acquiring more picks. We could have traded down and acquired a mid-first rounder and more and then still drafted Doug Martin, who is a better NFL back than TRich is.
Heckert totally blew it w/his first round picks last year. TRich is solid, but not worth what we paid for him and Weeden flat-out sucks. And there are still guys who cry about him being gone and how the new guys haven't fixed EVERY problem in one year.

Vers,
Do you think TRich will improve this year with healthy ribs and a year further removed from knee surgery? To the point of him being quite good?
Or do you think he "is what he is"? Without much regard to the injury thing.
I have no idea about him at this point. Worst case is he is a good starter...best case is he becomes a stud?
In the end, I love the player but don't like where he was picked or what we gave up to secure him.
I had/have similar thoughts on Weeden..meaning that I am ok with the player...just not ok with the pick.

I think if TR can get healthy and stay healthy he will be a very good back.

I agree...and hope that such is his floor and not his ceiling.
I wonder if he can become 'special' or 'elite' though...I think he can...but that may be because I very much WANT him to special/elite.
This system may be just as good for him as it is being said it will be (good) for Weeden.

The New Regime is here. Granted Heckert did a good job in creating a nice youth foundation n mega cap room for FA investments as well as signing guys looking for 2nd contracts.
I think there is a lot of excitement where it seems the New Regime is doing with what we got. Building with good pieces to add on. Mostly because of the Coaching brought in. Norv n Chud are teaching these guys up at a rate they never experienced. Attack on O is an exciting premise. Attack on D is an awesome premise that all fans will easily get on board with.
Really I think a lot of the credit is the moving forward from what we have n building on that. We all know in the past the key words that have come with the New Regimes "complete Blow Up" - partial credit to Heckert for obtaining the solid foundation of youth which has no NEED for a blow up. Also partial credit to the new Regime for recognizing the foundation n deciding to build on it rather than just BLOW IT UP!
Just the way I look at it...maybe one of a FEW that really liked Heckert n really like what we are doing now!

I liked Heckert and I think Banner did as well. The problem with Heck is he had roster contraol and Banner wanted more a system with 2-3 people in on the process and not simply in the hands of a strog GM or strong coach.
There is something to be said for either way, but to me I like having 2-3 people with a say. I think it can help eliminate mistakes.
If the strong coach or GM fall in love with the wrong guy....eeehhhh.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

I just simply have no need to Assess who is better.
For me: Heckert did a very good job especially in the draft n setting up the FA cap.
Banner/Lombardi - I like what they have done so far from picking excellent coaches (something Heckert did not do) n utilizing the FA cap for a couple of pieces not some big Surge/Blow up like almost every coach we had in the past if they had that Cap access to them. And the pieces they got from the draft or add to 2014.
I have no desire to designate who is the best.
Right now for me They Both have contributed to what I think is the Best start to a New Regime n I think the right track to prominence for quite some time.
OFF TO THE LINKS...take care dawgs!

Boy this article is a bunch of cherry picked fluff. I predict a tough year. This is optimism season right now but lets not forget... New systems, new coaches, a marginally upgraded 5-11 team and an owner teetering on the edge of oblivion. I think we could pull out a 7-9 or maybe an 8-8 but lets not confuse that with success. It'll feel nice considering our recent history but we're a few years away from contending IMO. and that's assuming our new owner doesn't go to prison and the team has to start alllllllll over again. Do not underestimate the power of distraction.

I guess I'm a TRich apologist. I'm guessing that last season will be the worst of his career. Some of the things he did while injured/coming off minor knee surgery were pretty fantastic. Running people over and juking DBs out of their cleats was fun to watch, and I think we'll see more of that this coming season.
I'm just hoping that his dancing at the line gets left behind along with his rib and knee issues. Vers made a good point about this earlier, so I guess we can just hope.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I just wonder if H and H will get any credit for the foundation that was established???
If you are looking for some proclamation, no.
I do think you have already seen some credit given as the team has said we have a pretty good core of talent and also have said there were a few guys who needed another year before they were going to be able to evaluate them properly.
H&H would probably still be here had Homie not brought in Rat as head coach.
Ugh..I didn't like that hire as I thought it showed no effort from Holmy to get a quality HC in here..and what happens to these no-name attempt-a-coach tryouts in Cleveland?? They go on to become...assistant coaches which is what they really are.

Doug martin is a better nfl running back then trich? im guessing your talking just about the ONE YEAR THEY BOTH HAVE PLAYED....and trent had 2 broken ribs. Im would certainly hope you are not already proclaiming martin the better back when it is all said and done after one season.

meh... the NFL stands for Not For Long and it's a what have you done for me lately league. I wanted Doug Martin and I think we could have acquired more picks by trading down, I agree that TRich will probably be equivalent to Doug Martin or one of the tons of other players picked in later rounds. I don't think he will be in the HOF or be anything elite.
At the end of the day... the past is the past... and I had no control over who we picked (thank goodness)
I do think TRich will probably produce 4-5 1,000 yard seasons but he will not live up to someone like #1 Emmit Smith to #26 Steven Jackson that are the top 26 rushers in the history of the NFL.
Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

Hmmmm. I think he will get better, but I don't really think the rib injury had much of an impact. I have said it before and some people don't get what I am saying, but the guy sought out contact. He broke tackles. He ran w/power. If the ribs were as big of an issue as we have been led to believe, then believe me, he wouldn't have run so aggressively.
I think his problem is that he is not decisive about hitting holes. His instincts are lacking. I don't think that has anything at all to do w/the injuries.
With that said, I do think he is a pretty darn good player w/many attributes. He will be a very good player provided he stays healthy, which isn't a given due to his running style and body type.
I just don't think he is an elite back. And I certainly think it was a stupid choice, given the fact that quality RBs are available in a plethora of places.
