I am wondering if anyone out there wished we had 'like' and 'dislike' buttons for posts. Most times someone else already has posted what I would have said, so I don't feel the need to make a comment. However, I wouldn't mind being able to show support of the point-of-view I agree with simply by hitting 'like', or vice versa.
What say you?

I don't see the value in it, because with the "new post jumpers", I automatically go to new posts, and rarely go back to look at what I wrote at a later time. If someone comments, then I'll see it ..... but with a button, personally, I would rarely, if ever, see the results.

I prefer quoting the thread and doinng a "+1".

I wish you could tag people in posts.
Like if I brought up something, and wanted to bring it to another member's attention in conversation.
Similiar to how you can on Twitter and Facebook.
Kinda like "I think the Browns should draft Dion Jordan, @Punchsmack brought up a good point in that he read an article about how well he would fit in the 3-4."
The post would be able to do 2 things. Give the reader a chance to go immediately to Punchsmack's profile page, which from there he could read prior posts and find the article if he had posted it, as well as other info. It would also bring Punch into the conversation, as he'd somehow be notified that he was tagged. He could then maybe add to the conversation.
I don't know if you can do that on message boards, because I have never operated and maintained one.
Would be pretty cool though.

I think it would be a good idea for the reasons you mentioned.

I brought this up a few months ago.
As you can see, it went nowhere. The thread turned into a topic about how old GM is

To be fair, GM is old, and that is always worth being brought up.

It's also how most every thread ends up.

I think its a good idea. It would eliminate the need for all the "+1", "^^this^^', "quoted for truth", and "ditto" (I'm guilty of this one recently) replies that seem to litter the board. It would also make the board more interactive for people who tend not to post as much as others, and it would provide feedback to someone who needs to understand that they are being a knucklehead, without the acrimonious replies from other posters.

LOL - I couldn't resist, but this is exactly why I would like it. Although, it would likely take away from some peoples' precious post count.

I'm sure we'll be hearing from Daman shortly about why this is a dumb idea.
^And a prime example why tagging a poster would be a good option to have too

I will only "like" posts about:
1) Twitter being allowed on this site; and
2) How old GM is.
In other words, I will be "liking" every single post.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Tons of people choose to review posts but elect not to post for a variety of reasons...sometimes in fear Versatile Dog brings down a post by demeaning it's opinion or tying it into his hate agenda. This way, they can at least voice a yes/no on a topic. Who knows, it may encourage more to participate in the near future. I like the idea.

See, now you could have tagged Versatile Dog there, and he would have been notified that you brought him into conversation and the flame war/hilarity would ensue.

I'm sure Ppl would be happy to implement it as soon as you write the scripts and test it.
I just browsed UBBThreads page and it is a feature in a v7.6.6, we are still on 6.5.5, and I'm not sure what the costs for upgrades are, so it may be cost prohibitive.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Upgrade costs aren't an issue. I can write those off, if nothing else. Preserving this layout, look, and feel is the issue. We've been frozen at this version because this is the last version that has the look and feel that we all left BrownsChat for. This is what worked for us. What BrownsChat was, was the hosted version of the newer builds of this (although, completely uncustomized (generally)) and minus several key features like the post-jumpers, etc.... Unfortunately, beginning shortly after v6.5.5, they completely re-worked the site templating system, so, none of the existing templates work with the new version.
It is one of those things where I have a bajillion ideas and plans on the ToDo list, but I just have to actually get around to implementing them. One of those items is to create a complete set of page templates for the new version that replicate this older look and feel, while also giving the option to every user of switching to newer templates that give an updated feel.

You could always switch to vBulletin. Their version of "post jumpers" as people like to call them here, is "database read marking" and it actually stores where you last read in the database, not just since your last visit. So what's new to you always stays that way. Also highly customizable where you can easily give it the look and feel of this place if you so choose.

I remember after "Browns Chat" came into existence, you set up a board that was remarkably similar to the old board with your preferred board software. It looked good, but for some reason never really caught on. I thought that it was a solid look/act alike though.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

You actually remember that? I think you were 1 of 3 or 4 folks that came over to look at it for the short life it had. Purp was setting up the UUB site at the same time and everyone liked the software familiar to them. Who can blame them, it was an easy transition. Purp and I were talking at the time and if I remember correctly he did initially use the same hosting company, A Small Orange, until he was able to set up his own server. I'll always pimp vBulletin as I know that software so well but the voices were loud and clear, they wanted the UUB look and feel.

It was a nice setup ..... and was really close to what we have here. The biggest problem was that there just weren't many people there. People did vote for the familiar. (and I have to admit that I prefer the UBB Thread setup as well)
I seem to recall that it had a type of post jumper setup ..... (my absolute favorite feature of UBB Threads) but I don't remember all of the details.
If PPE hadn't set up this site, I think that yours probably would have been a nice option.

I still don't understand why post jumpers aren't a standard feature on all boards.
It's essentially a bookmarker for a forum. You don't just thumb through a book to find where you were, you use some sort of marker or marking technique, why would anyone assume a forum wouldn't be more useful with the same feature.

I agree.
It is why I left the Browns team boards in the first place. It just got too difficult and frustrating trying to figure out what I had read, and where I left off within a discussion.
