Hey guys! Hopefully someone can help me with this. My kitchen drain started backin up last week...I tried drain-o but it didnt help. Last night I tried cleaning out the trap; it wasnt completely clogged, but there was some stuff there and it at least drains slowly now. Was hopin that would get it but it didnt. Anyone here have any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help

forget drain-poo...the stuff's just plain crap....get a product called resolve. it's heavy duty drain cleaner available at most hardware type stores, if that dont do the trick, try snaking it out! last resort is the most expensive, call a plumber!

As far as the snake, you can buy one at walmart for probably 10 bucks.
But with the desposal, the snake won't do alot of good. I had a similiar problem last year. Question 2. Is your desposal currently still working with the drain being plugged?

Yea it works. It seems like it drains a little better (still slowly) if I have the disposal running.

Did you by any chance peel potatoes last week and send the skins down the disposal? And is it a double sink or just the single? If double, is the disposal on the "upstream side" or "down stream" side ?

Air blast it I've seen it done if the air blasting doessn't work ten its outside of the house like a trees roots have cloged the drain.... go to a hardware store and tell them you need something to airblast your drains or something we paid roto rooter an obscene amout of money to do that ..

The problem probably lies in your desposal. Do you also have a dish washer hooked up? If so, you will see that after you run a cycle the dishwasher will have undrained water sitting in the bottom. Your best bet is to try the airblasting idea, if not I'd call a plumber. Take the advice with a grain of salt as I am not a plumber. In my incedent last year, I had to actually replace the desposal. Not only did mine clogg, but I also burnt out my motor.

Alright thanks alot. I'm pretty sure its in the disposal. Especially once I saw that the trap was for all purposes clean. Maybe I'll see if my dad can bring his air compressor up. Just wanted some opinions...thanks alot

Me too. Me too. At the worst my dad might be able to come up one night this week, he lives about an hour and a half away so I hate to make him do it. I know he will for a steak and a 12 pack of bud light...just the point I guess. I like to do things myself.

i had a clogged drain in my bathtub once and the plumber recommended hooking up a wet-dry vac to the drain and plugging all of the other openings. the wet-dry vac sucked out whatever was clogging the drain, and we saved a bunch of money. nice plumber!

Ever use "Liquid Fire"? That stuff is fantastic! You just have to stand back because the eruption is akin to a volcano, and then you have to flush your pipes with fresh water for a half hour, and it doesn't hurt to toss a half gallon of vinegar down the pipes after a good dose of Liquid Fire.

If it drains a little better when the disposal is running, then it's an issue with your disposal.
You can unplug it, then turn the flange under the sink to remove it and have a look inside. It very well may be clogged and/or gunked up.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

It could also be that the spinning disposal creates a higher pressure area of water and is pushing it out through whatever clog there is in the pipe.
I'd just dismantle the whole damn thing and clean it all out. Ya just need a few wrenches, some time and $1.99 for the mini-tub of plumber's putty and teflon tape.
