Nice pickup. Will one of our current Dlineman be traded?

Browns agree with Desmond Bryant

Posted by Mike Wilkening on March 12, 2013, 9:04 PM EDT

Free agent Raiders defensive tackle Desmond Bryant is joining the Browns, PFT has learned via a league source.

Bryant ranked No. 33 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100.

Bryant joins a Browns defensive line that already includes tackles Phil Taylor and Ahtyba Rubin. It will interesting to see how Cleveland, which is moving to a 4-3, will configure its defensive line.

Why cya Rubin? This guy would play DE. He's a pass rusher, 6'6 and 310 lbs

One of the two (Rubin or Taylor) is gone. My money is on Rubin as well.

Why? Because we actually have a need on the DL?

Now Lombardi is just making moves to make moves. Where's the CB or secondary help we need?

They are NOT moving to a 4-3, lol...

This is a good pickup. Why does one our linemen have to go just b/c we signed him? It's called rotation, plus Horton runs 3+ linemen fronts. Wow people, chillax and enjoy the solid addition to the defense

Thus far, Banner and Lombardi are doing a good job IMO.

Why do some of you think we will trade a defensive lineman?

Clearly it will be DE Bryant NT Rubin and DE Taylor....we sorely needed an OLB and a DE for the 3-4 to work...no way we trade a 3-4 ready DL'man

Which is exactly why I've been saying Sheard is the odd man out. They seem to think Taylor can play DE in the 3-4.

Sheard can not play a DL position in the 3-4... and he doesn't strike me as an OLB in this system. And the fact that they just spent big money on Kruger and are looking primarily at pass rushers in the upcoming draft tells me this regime doesn't think so either.

Wow, didn't really consider this a need, so don't understand the signing.

Does NE need DL? I have heard we are in discussions to aquire Ryan Mallet.

Or keep Rubin because Big guys get gassed fast.

Why is a surplus of big guys a bad thing?

Are you replying to me or someone else? Cause I'm wondering the same thing you are (as it concerns the folks who think Rubin or Taylor is gone)

by the latest account I believe those talks have subsided

and I don't know who we would have put at RE in this defense? Phil Hughes? He is a good rotator but he is not ready for starting duty IMO....same with Billy Wynn...I will be excited though when he is in on passing downs

You don't keep 3 NTs.
3-4 teams normally will have 6-7 DL's on the roster.4 or 5 5-tech,2 NTs.

It helps the entire defense from the linebackers back to the secondary with fresh, big fat guys who Horton will use very nicely I am sure...

I can see Sheard going before Taylor or Rubin. Trading those guys makes no sense. Taylor is athletic and can get after the QB. He can be DE. Bryant will be the primarily pass rushing DE.

Sheard doesn't fit on the front three, as to whether he can play OLB, that's what we'll have to find out. But still, I just don't see them letting go of Sheard. Sheard's a good player, Horton will find a way to use him.

And I'm not so sure we're gonna be drafting an OLB anymore. With Kruger (and if we sign Groves) we have options.

Still kinda dissapointed we couldn't get Martellus Bennett. I'd like for us to get a CB and Dustin Keller. I don't know anything about this Meyers except he looks a bit like a one year wonder guy. Dustin Keller has shown himself to be productive consistently

For some reason people think Taylor can't play DE. I haven't see any good explanation for it.

Taylor and Rubin are both MORE than capable of playing DE in the 3-4....I don't know Bryant well but he would appear to be versatile as well....the only true NT I see on the team is probably Kitchen as I don't think he could play DE...
