Here you go:

Not Very Optimistic

Feb 28, 2013 -- 4:35pm

By Aaron Goldhammer

Browns WR Josh Cribbs joined "The Really Big Show" with Aaron Goldhammer, Je'rod Cherry, and Tony Grossi for an exclusive interview to discuss his contract status, his tenure with the Browns, and his plan for free agency.

On Where the Negotiations Stand

At this point, I'm not very optimistic. We're exploring the option of other teams. You know where my head is. I really want to stay a Cleveland Brown. I want to end my career here.

On Why He Doesn't Think He'll be Back in Cleveland

It wasn't anything that Banner said, it's just the simple fact that I know there is nothing being talked about. I believe that I could be a big part of this football team. I don't feel like they feel that as well.

On If He Needs to Sell Joe Banner and Michael Lombardi on His Value

At this point, I've done all the selling that I can. I can't do any more besides going into their office and flipping on tape of myself, saying here, "look what I can do." They probably feel what some fans feel: that my best is over. They want to move on and everything. I bring a lot to the table, to the team, to the organization, and the community. My play on the field this year will speak for itself.

On If He is Past his Prime

I feel like I have a lot of football left. I believe that the team I go to, whether it's the Browns or not, will be able to utilize me. Coach Turner? He can utilize my skills. We had our best season under Chudzinski.

On If he Has Discussed a Contract with Other Teams

My agent has been meeting with several different teams. There is a lot of interest. There are already numbers brought to the table. Things are happening. Wheels are turning behind closed doors.

On If he Would Play for the Ravens or Steelers

Just me being who I was to this community, they would have to come at me with ridiculous numbers...Realistically, those are not my intentions. I don't have intentions to play in our division.

On If he Would Take a Pay Cut to Stay in Cleveland

When I say I'm willing to take less, I'm willing to take more incentives. Allow me to make my money...I'm willing to take a pay cut on my base salary but give me the opportunity to make it up in incentives.

On Why He Feels Underused on Offense

Coach Shurmur came in his first year and gave me the opportunity. I was playing behind receivers that were our number one and two guys and I had to get in where I fit in. Doing that, I caught 42 passes, and accumulated five touchdowns. Apparently, at that position, it wasn't good enough, because the next year, I only caught seven balls, with the opportunity of averaging about two to three plays on offense per game if that. So, my role on offense significantly decreased the next year. I was baffled on the sideline like, "wow, I wish I could help my team." We're losing. I know I can help us win. For me, to only have the opportunity to get one play per game, and on that one play I'll get 20 rushing yards or spark something for the offense, and then nothing? For me, to know that I can be a threat and not to be used, I felt like the Browns, last year, weren't trying to do everything we could to win.

On If He Would Accept a "Special Teams Only" Role Next Year

I've been on this team for many years and watched our offense struggle every single year but once. When I step on the field on offense, the majority of the time, there was an exciting play, a first down, and momentum. For me not to be a part of the offense, I'm not okay with that. To say I'm just a special teams guy? I'm not ok with that.

On Brandon Weeden's Future

Especially now that Brandon has a year under his belt, I think he is going to succeed tremendously. The offense is simpler, it's a numbers system, it's easier...he will be able to read defenses without a problem.

On How He Would Feel About Another QB Change in Cleveland

That would be something! It's something that you might end up seeing, not that it's something they are going to do. They didn't bring in Weeden. They are making the changes that they feel are best to make our team successful. What that is? Time will tell. Hopefully they see enough in Brandon to allow him to be the starter, or allow him to compete for the starting position, without handicapping him.

I agree. I think Cribbs is worth $1.5mil/season on a 2year deal. Might want to work a gag-order into the contract though.

I agree entirely with Cribbs here. He has been underutilized.

How many Richardson with broken ribs up the middle did we need to see. I'm all about big play potential. Reverses, bubble screens, and deep bombs please

Cribbs is a great special teams player ...... both as a returner and as a coverage guy.

He has been an effective Wildcat QB ..... though letting him throw the ball even once in his career might open the run up more for him.

He is, however, a very average type WR. He lacks top end speed, and the speed he does have he has to build up to. He doesn't have great burst. He is much more comfortable being able to look at the defense, and then make his plan to attack it.

Personally, I think that he should have been made a RB years ago. He might have been good at it.

I love his passion about playing the game ..... and I love that he asked to be put back on coverage units because he felt that he wasn't doing enough to help the team. I love that he has some gimmick plays that he can run effectively. He really is a 4/5 WR though.

A player wants to play more? Someone call the police. This needs to stop ASAP! If half of our team had the work ethic of Cribbs then we'd win the super bowl.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - In the latest edition of, "He Didn't Really Mean That," Josh Cribbs' agents are trying to interpret recent comments by their client.

Mary Kay Cabot writes on Cleveland.com how the agents for Cribbs disputed the Browns veteran's statement during a radio show Thursday that they're already negotiating with other teams.

If true, that would constitute tampering, according to NFL rules. Which means a fine. Here's what Cribbs said on ESPN Cleveland radio:

"My agent has been meeting with several different teams. There is a lot of interest. There are already numbers brought to the table. Things are happening. Wheels are turning behind closed doors."

Here's what agent Peter Schaffer, one of Cribbs' representatives along with J.R. Rickert, told Mary Kay.

"Our conversations to this point have been exclusively with the Browns," Schaffer said. Rickert tweeted: "Let me be clear. [Cribbs] is a Cleveland Brown til March 12. No other discussions are in process."

This one could come back to hit cribbs, his agent and any teams that have been in contact with him. Player tampering is something the NFL has been trying to crack down on and now Thanks to Mr. Cribbs for not knowing when to shut the hell up, the commish will be investigating once again.

I think that most players want to play as much as possible. Sometimes they just don't have the talent level the team needs at certain positions. That's Cribbs' problem. He's been tried at WR, and he's been OK, but nothing even remotely approaching special.

I totally agree. I mean the countless exciting plays the constant effort and desire to win really mean nothing when compared to a comment to the media.

Those of you hating on Cribbs for a probably honest though non-standard comment must be really despicable people. I feel sorry for your family and friends if you have any.

A bit strong on the personal level, there.

I think most folks who are ready to see the guy gone- myself included- just see a guy with diminishing skills in a role that he sees too small for his actual talents. With the constant media drama he's steadily drummed up, I don't blame myself and others for being ready for a shiny, new toy that can burn in the return game. He might have a couple solid years left, but he just doesn't seem worth the price of his yapper right now.

He opened the door for a paycut in previous conversations with the press which was foolish. Josh probably had an unpleasant conversation with his agent after that and thought to undo that damage he would make himself look like a desired commodity on the open market by issuing another even worse comment. I honestly believe that Cribbs wants to stay in Cleveland. I would really like to see him retire as a Cleveland Brown.

He knows that it's a miracle he even got to the NFL. Right now he is probably thinking that if the Browns don't pick up his contract he will die on the free agent market and that will be the end of his career. I'm certain that his emotions are all messed up.

"I'll be there to stay and finish my career," went to "I'll show them I have real value," to "I'll make them think I'm wanted by other teams and they'll keep me."

Josh has never gotten into any trouble on or off the field. He's taken some big hits, has had concussions, has given his all on the field and has been a fantastic community member. The Browns have all of $10 million invested in this guy over his 8 year career. I really think they've gotten their money's worth and then some.

If nothing else, I'd like to say, "Josh. Calm down. Free agency hasn't even started yet. The fans love you. You bring excitement to the game. You'll be okay."

I think he wants to stay in Cleveland because I think Cleveland will be his best offer, if they make one before FA. It's why he wants to get something done now.

I don't think there is going to be a groundswell of offers for the guy...at least offers for big money.

This is absolutely the case. I have no issue with Cribbs. I doubt he'll be a Brown, and that's alright because he's not what he used to be IMO. But while under contract he gave everything he had 100% of the time, no problems. Sometimes he talked too much to the media, but all is forgiven when he goes kamikazee style, 5th gear, at the kickoff team.

My girlfriend always wears my Josh Cribbs jersey T-Shirt, and I told her yesterday, that she didn't have to worry. Cribbs has been with the team long enough that you can keep wearing that T-Shirt with pride forever, it's not like that Kamerion Wimbley jersey, which has been banished to the back of the shelf never to be worn again.

I don't think Cribbs will be on the team next year, and I'm not so sure he's getting the interest he says he is. He's pretty much a pure special teamer, and teams don't like losing roster spots on people like that

I think the real question now is will they even bother to make an offer after he's flat-out said he wants to have a regular role on offense or he's going to be upset if he doesn't. We all know what an upset Cribbs is like, including Banner, and I don't think for a moment he's the kind of pushover who is going to placate a special teams guy with diminishing skills who constantly whines and bitches to the media.

It's amazing how Cribbs never knows when to STFU....

To say nothing of his mouth telling everyone that 'his agent is talking to several teams'. The tiny problem is that he isn't YET a free agent so his agent can't be doing that, His agent would be in lots of legal trouble if he did so and cause teams that talked to his agent a lot of problems too!

I have the feeling the only way Banner even wants to talk to Cribbs & company any further, is if Chud & Norv seem REALLY eager to see if they can use him effectively on offense.

Two schools of thought and I don't know which is accurate and true

1. His agents are indeed speaking with other teams and breaking the rules and Cirbbs is an idiot for letting the cat out of the bag..

2. His agents aren't talkng to other teams but Cribbs is an idiot trying to use that as a way to push the browns into making a decision quicker.

Either way, Cribbs is an Idiot.. Take your pick

When premium free agents agree to contracts at 12:01 AM, immediately following the opening of free agency, you know that there are a few rules that have been bent, fractured, and broken into tiny little pieces.

I have absolutely no doubt of that that agents are talking to teams.. The NFL has the rule, but I'm pretty sure it's all done.

But like I said either way, Cribbs is an idiot for talking about it.

The new rule this year lets the agents and teams talk three days before FA starts. It supposedly to stop tampering, but in reality it was happening anyway, so they just changed the rules.

As for Cribbs, I said above that he deserves to be signed, but not at big money. But reading the crap he keeps spewing in the press, he's quickly falling out of favor with me. Saying he doesn't want to be just a ST ace, I think he cooked his own goose, with the Browns and probably a few other teams.

I would love to see us bring Cribbs back, he can still return Kicks, maybe not as great as in the past but still very good, and can he cover those kicks WOW, the main reason for me is he is a Brown and I would love to see celebrate a Championship here in Cleveland ... JMHO

I'm one of the few who wants Cribbs to remain n not even at Returner...I think he is definitely a good slot WR...guess we will find out.

But yeah to all those who thought he sucks...get back to me in a year n tell me what he is good or bad???

Going to NE and having Tom Brady throwing passes to him slightly skews your argument.

I think Little and Gordon are both better WIDE RECIEVERS than Cribbs. Plus they aren't old and don't whine a lot.

Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

I'm betting you're right, and I think he'll do well in that offense

Was told over n over again that Cribbs just is not a WR...I kept saying he was a very good WR n if we Stretched the OFFENSE like we are suppose to be...a terror in the YAC dept. Welker...caught ball n slid on the ground. Cribbs will catch the ball n put fear in the CBs...usually 3rd CB covering the slot is not the biggest guy.

Was told Cribbs couldn't catch...I think he can.

Let's put it this way...If Cribbs is what those who stated he is not a WR...doesn't matter if it Brady or not. OCHO...had Brady...he just didn't run the routes.

JMHO
