(CBS/AP) LILBURN, Ga. - A 69-year-old suburban Atlanta man faces a murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed a 22-year-old man who had mistakenly driven into his driveway.

An arrest warrant states that Rodrigo Abad Diaz of Duluth, Ga., was fatally shot in the head Saturday as he tried to drive away from Phillip Sailors' home in Lilburn, northeast of Atlanta.

According to Diaz's friends, who were in the vehicle at the time of the incident, the 22-year-old had received incorrect directions from a GPS device which led him to Sailors' driveway, the Atlantic Journal-Constitution reports. They were in the area to pick up a friend.

Sailors' attorney, Michael Puglise, tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he was home with his wife late at night, and assumed the young man arrived to commit a home invasion. Puglise says Sailors was defending his home and maintains his innocence.

Gwinnett County Jail records show that Sailors was being held on a murder charge.

There are just plain crazy people in this world.

I mean, really ..... someone accidentally pulls into your driveway ...... so you kill them?

People have no brains anymore.

Especially the poor kid who made a wrong turn. Don't worry, this guy isn't getting off. The mind-set of people in this country is in a sorry state of affairs.

If he was in fact shot as he was trying to drive away, they should throw the book at the shooter.

Obviously we need to put an age limit on gun ownership.

I'm not sure if the guy pulling in or out makes a lot of difference, unless the guy was pulling in and trying to run him down. If this is all the story and there is no past relationship between these two, then the old guy should be put down, like the animal he is.

the Atlantic Journal-Constitution reports.

It's the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.. as it says in the following paragraph... little mistakes like that really bug me.

I live in the suburbs and I can't even imagine my first reaction to having a car pull into my driveway to be go get the gun and shoot somebody.

I do find some irony in the fact that our culture at large tells us to be afraid.. we need a home security system, we need a gun to protect ourselves, the local news reports on nothing but crime, politicians talk about crime and protecting yourself all the time... then somebody does something like this and those same people call him a lunatic... Fortunately the average person doesn't go to this extreme, but the media and our culture is at least partly to blame for creating people like this.

Which means what?

How could you not know that means he's a certified lunatic.

It would seem to mean that he's an old guy who may have had latent issues from his time in combat, may have had some form of dementia, and he more than likely made a horrific mistake and he's not a cold blooded killer who was looking for a kid to shoot...

Doesn't mean he shouldn't pay the price for it... the article doesn't tell us a whole lot but we are all very quick to judge somebody as a lunatic, an animal or a monster based on one action in his long life.....

That's the key. I'd be curious to know if the guy has any kind of a history of behavior indicating mental issues from his time in Vietnam. I'd also be interested to know if his time in Vietnam involved combat or not.

Like you said, DC, people do tend to jump to conclusions based on one act. I guess I was saying that while his time in Nam and S. America may have had something to do with what happened, it isn't a foregone conclusion.

Damn that's a shame that happened.

Oh well,,we're told to be afraid so, I guess it's not a surprise when something like this happens is it?

he has to have some amount of paranoia... which is why I think you should have mandatory psych testing every 5 years if you're going to own a gun (ok maybe not that much, but there needs to be something to improve our mental health in this country)

It's the GPS's fault... It purposely took Rodrigo Abad Diaz into a driveway late at night that is owned by an ex vet whose name is Sailors... Talk about trouble just waiting to happen..

I hope that GPS gets dismantled and put away for ever....

You know whats going to happen..the gun will get the blame for it...and now we will have to hear all about gun control and the people who own them...
