Some news this Monday morning on hopefully a crack in the org that will keep snowballing. However I think Harbaugh is a heck of a coach, never been too impressed with Cameron, so no surprise. I think its also telling that balt has a good record and is making moves that they think will improve themselves. To me that reaffirms that you can never stop trying to improve, no matter the record.
Baltimore Ravens fans have wanted a new offensive coordinator for years.
On Monday, late during an otherwise successful season, they finally got their wish.
NFL.com's Albert Breer confirmed multiple reports, via a source informed of the decision, that Cam Cameron is out after five seasons with the Ravens. Former Indianapolis Colts head coach and current Ravens quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell will be promoted to take over, Breer reports. Cameron told WMAR-TV that he had been fired.
The Ravens officially announced the coaching change Monday.
"With our coaches and players, the solution is in the building. We are going to make the most of our opportunities going forward, and this change gives us a better possibility to achieve our goals, head coach John Harbaugh"
NFL Network's Steve Wyche also reports, via a source close to Cameron, that Cameron was not surprised by the Ravens' decision.
Cameron's offense was wildly uneven this season, like much of his tenure in Baltimore. But we're still stunned at the timing of the decision. The Ravens are 9-4 despite their two-game losing streak, and they hold a two-game lead in the AFC North. Baltimore put up 28 points during Sunday's loss to the Washington Redskins, and it was their defense that couldn't hold on to a lead late. Caldwell has never been a coordinator before, although he has been a head coach. He also hasn't called plays in the NFL.
We just haven't seen these types of in-season moves during general manager Ozzie Newsome or owner Steve Biscotti's tenure. A lot must have been going on behind the scenes for such a drastic change to happen now.
Sunday's loss to the Redskins was typical of Cameron's run as offensive coordinator. There were flashes of brilliance, with three touchdowns on the team's first four possessions. But then the offense bogged down; nine of their 13 drives lasted four plays or less. The lack of use of Ray Rice was a constant concern, and there were reports of frustration with the team's no huddle approach during the season.
Coach John Harbaugh is taking one of the biggest risks of his career by letting go of Cameron now, rather than in the offseason. Harbaugh, like a lot of fans, finally had seen enough. Follow Gregg Rosenthal on Twitter @greggrosenthal.
Didn't see this anywhere, if I missed it, oopsie. linker

Pretty crazy that a 9-4 team would make this move in week 15.

Their wins have not been that impressive. This team is over rated, their 9 wins coming against teams like KC (9-6), Oakland, us twice, Cincy once, Steelers, Dallas by two, San Diego (16-13 after almost losing,) and they beat NE by a point. They got spanked by Texas and lost to Pitt with Batch at the helm. Of course wins are wins, and their record is their record, but they're not the dominate team everyone wants them to be or thinks they are. First round loss in the playoff is likely, IMO.

i agree that they are not long for the playoffs, but to fire a co-ordinator mid-season is still crazy for a playoff-bound team to do.

I'm not going to look into this very deep but just couple of points from my basic observations......
At home the Rats O has been pretty productive. Yesterday they scored 28 points.
Flacco has looked like warmed over dog crap on the road quite a bit.
So how can you pin the blame on the OC?
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Possibly just scapegoating inside a dysfunctional franchise. One can only hope.

Wait,,, They are 9-4, leading their division his offense puts up 28 and the D doesn't hold the Redskins who, at the end of the game, were without their franchise QB, and the Ravens fire the Offensive Coordinator?
What the hell did I miss?

Cams downfall is that he believes Flacco is ELITE.
To much Flacco not enough Ray Rice....its really pretty simple.
He fell in love with the deep ball and forgot about their best weapon.

I officially start the rumor that Peyton Manning will leave Denver and go to baltimore during the offseason.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Cameron refused to run the ball. And they have one of the best RBs in the last decade coupled with what used to be an elite defense.
Surprised it took this long.

Still kinda weird for a team to dump their offensive coordinator with only 3 games left in the season.
Hopefully it costs them ..... dearly.

I suppose that could be true, but seems like a simple fix. HC says to OC, Run Rice MORE. OC says, yes sir.
Of course, that's not to say that Harbaugh didn't say that and Cameron didn't listen to his boss.
Still, they are in the hunt and cameron is a pretty darn fine offensive mind. So honestly, I'd think this is something that could have waited until the season was over.

And they promote the QB coach to OC... So will Caldwell use R Rice more ? Will be interesting to see if much changes in the play calling.

Which may be a part of the problem. With an elite D clock control and running the ball in low scoring games works great.
When it becomes a "used to be elite D" sometimes you need to adjust to trying to put more points on the board.
I do agree they haven't used Rice nearly enough. But how much have they been playing from behind late in games?

I made this point in the other games thread last week.
Ray Rice wasn't used in the fourth quarter against the Steelers and they had the lead for most of it.
It was weird.

I don't really disagree that he has been underused. But I guess I'm kind of old school.
It's always been my contention that your O should be expected to put up at least 20 points and your D should be expected to hold your oponent to 20 points or less.
There have been three games this year that the Rats O scored 20 or more points and still lost.
Had their D have done their job, that would put the Rats record at 12-1. Somehow I find it odd that you fire your OC during the course of the season considering all of that.

We should have this kind of dysfunctional success. A part of this has been pure Falco low performance. This is weird move in-season; has to be more.
