We are looking for a new vehicle, primarily an SUV as we have not had a new vehicle in over 5 or 6 years and its time for a change. lately we have been looking at a Chevy Equinox and a Buick Rendezvous. we are looking in the range of $20k to $30k...
could anyone give me some opinions? id appreciate it

I don't know much about the SUV's that you mentioned but my wife and I just got a Honda Pilot. We love it.

GM is the best so you're already headed in the right direction. For SUVs that size, those are two of the better ones IMO. Saturn's Vue is also pretty nice. Stear clear of the Escape or Aztec. My advice would be to read up on them from Consumer Reports or Motor Trend... something like that. People who own them or tested them give honest opionons, minimal propaganda! Good luck!

Toyota Highlander or the Nissan Pathfinder
I've always been a GM man myself, but I picked up an old car to redo,, kind of a toy,, 1992 Nissan 300ZX iwth 188k miles on it,, it was not maintained very well, but it runs and looks great,, all I can do is go by what I see and my newer Chevy Blazer (1998) with 160K miles that was maintained to perfection is nowhere near as good a vehicle as my nissan..
Go figure

Are you speaking of our own GMDawg ..... or the poor old General Motors?
Bob Lutz seems intent on turning Chevy into "Chrysler Jr" ....... so one might as well buy a Chrysler and get the original.

We have a Toyota Rav4 and love it. If you get one 2006 or newer, they extended the model by 16 inches and there is a lot of room. The V6 also adds a nice punch.

I've heard nothing but GREAT things about the Highlander, even though I am a Honda man myself. 2 friends have them, and love them.

For what it's worth, Honda has one of the highest resale values.

My sister has a Rav-4 and it'ss really nice. It drives real great too. I am a big Honda supporter but I went with her and drove both th rav-4 and CRV and must say I really liked the Toyota better. Both are great on resale value and both are relatively trouble free from what I hear.

Do they do the Nissan Navara over there? Thats what i drive anywho, little cramped in the back for passengers but hey, i got no friends anyways. Can't go wrong with the Jap cars, the Aussies have a strange fixation almost like tribal warfare between Holden and Ford.
