The administration at stately Poly Prep Country Day School in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn was keeping mum about an explosive e-mail that was reportedly sent to the head master this week, alleging a late football coach there was involved in a tri-state “child sex” ring with one-time Penn State defensive coordinator, Jerry Sandusky.
48-year-old Greg Bucceroni of Philadelphia told the Daily News he sent the e-mail this past Monday, with specific mentions of Poly Prep’s former football coach, Phil Foglietta. The e-mail read:
“Between 1977-1980 I was a child prostitute associated with a tri-state (NYC-NJ-Pa) pedophile ring. (During the) summer of 1979, I was brought to the State College area by Ed Savitz for the purpose of child prostitution with Jerry Sandusky at a Second Mile fundraiser. Due to time constraints, Sandusky became unavailable and I was introduced to Phil Foglietta by Ed Savitz & Jerry Sandusky. Foglietta was introduced to us as Coach Phil who coached youth football in NYC. Foglietta agreed to pay $200.00 for child sex and followed us back to a Philadelphia hotel. Myself and another child prostitute then engaged coach Phil in child sex.”
Savitz was a Philadelphia-area businessman who died of AIDS in 1993, after he was arrested on numerous charges of sex abuse.
Foglietta died in 1998, after a career with Poly Prep that spanned 25 years—from 1966 to 1991. He was never charged with any crime.
But in 2004, ten former students from Poly Prep filed a lawsuit, alleging the school failed to protect them from sexual abuse at the hands of Foglietta.
The suit is still pending.
When PIX 11 turned up at the Poly Prep “Upper School” campus on Thursday, the Director of Communications came outside to meet us. When we asked Malcolm Farley about the e-mail, he told us, on behalf of the administrators, “We have no comment.”
Jerry Sandusky was convicted in June on 45 counts of sex abuse of minors and faces life in prison, when he’s sentenced next month. A young coaching assistant testified at Sandusky’s trial that more than a decade ago, he had walked in on Sandusky having sex with a boy in a shower. Although he notified legendary Penn State coach, Joe Piterno, about what he had seen, no investigation was ever launched and there was no report to authorities. Penn State recently received a massive, $60 million dollar fine for its failure to protect children and severe penalties to its football program.
Carol Smolenski--Executive Director of EC-PAT USA, which stands for End Child Prostitution and Trafficking--told PIX 11 from her Brooklyn offices she was not shocked by the Sandusky connection to the old Poly Prep coach.
"No, I'm not surprised there was another case related to him....that there was a tri-state ring," Smolenski said. "As all of these cases are showing, it's respectable people, well-paid businessmen, or so many people in positions of power that are exploiting children."
Smolenski is hosting a silent art auction in several weeks in Manhattan, which will include works by survivors of child trafficking.
