At 1:11am this morning, my wife and I gave birth to our first (and after the past 3 days experience, ONLY) child. Our daughter, Leona Max Macek, was a healthy 8lbs 4oz, 21 inches long, 10 fingers, 10 toes, a bunch of brown hair and has already stole my heart.

Her first picture with daddy was very early this morning, but I couldn't have been happier.

And here's the real hero, my lovely, beautiful, and strong wife. She has been in labor since around 7 or 8 on Wednesday. Went into some more serious labor Wednesday night, didn't sleep at all. We got to the hospital at 9:30, and Sarah was already 5cm dilated. At about 1 o-clock she was 7cm, and that's where she stayed in full-blown active labor until an epidural around 9. She had full intention of going all natural and intervention free, but her body just couldn't handle it. her contractions her to the top of the chart for hours on end, with about a minute and a half between contractions. But the baby wasn't making any progress (was hooked on on he pelvis and was trying to come out chin up as opposed to chin down). Eventually, Sarah just couldn't physically push anymore.

By the time Leona was born, Sarah had gone nearly 24 hours without food, almost 38 hours without sleep, and was in intense labor for almost 9 hours. She was broke down, shaking uncontrollably, but was as happy as can be. She didn't get as much mommy daughter time as she wanted, but we're making up for it today. Baby latched right on for breastfeeding, which was a relief. Tomorrow is when we'll be bringing her home...that's when the real fun begins! Then in a month we have the pleasure of moving down to good old Columbus, GA for the next 10-12 months. Woo!

Well, happy birthday Leona!

Congrats! My wife went through almost the same exact experience. We ended up with only the one child (who is now a junior in college). Enjoy the ride, it goes very quickly!

CONGRATS MAN!

My son is 6 weeks old today and my wife is still convinced he will be our only child after what we went through a month and a half ago.

Congratulations!

When I first opened the thread, I saw all of those links and though "Oh my goodness, he and his wife had triplets".

...forgot I can't link to a blog. My wife started a blog to post pictures to keep the family all updated.

Quick update: baby is good, brought her mom last night. She met the dogs for the first time today. The younger one (1yo) is VERY curious. The old her one gave her a good sniff and was on his way.

Got about 2.5 hours of sleep last night (broken up, naturally). I took care of all the duties aside from feeding to let mom get some sleep. Hopefully tonight goes a little better.

We're both still on cloud 9

Congrats!

My daughter is the most perfect, precious gift I've ever received. I enjoy every moment and every memory. I probably talk about her more than anything else- be proud and enjoy every minute of it!
