Now that we locked up the division I want the best record in baseball. Only 1/2 a game back

Congratulations.

I told you that the Reds are winning it all this year. I have no doubt.

Detroit and Chicago actually both won a game today. Amazing to see them actually look like they want to win the division.

All that is left now is to see which team ends up choking like Tom Brady down the stretch.

(those SBs are a long time ago, no? since 18-0 he has lost 2 SBs at the end of the games and there are a bunch of games like Sunday vs. the Ravens where the Pats just couldn't close the deal as well. With LeBron winning his ring, he's the pre-eminent choker in sports right now, right?)

Anyone else find it completely moronic that the lower seed gets the first two games of the series at home in the first round?

#1 - I kinda hope Bud creates a new rule to eliminate the AL Central winner from the playoffs. No way should both wildcards (and others) have a better record than a division winner.

#2 - Tom is still the man. Dude has played in 5 Super Bowls. Had Gronk been healthy, I think the Pats win the SB. And anyway, Welker should have made that catch. If he does, they kneel down the win. Tom's throw was a bit wild, but Wes had two hands on it. I'd still take Tom over most of the QBs in the NFL.

i would too was just adding that because noone mentions it (due to his rings), but he's done the same type of thing Peyton Manning did for years and got roasted on. It wasn't Peyton's fault that the DB ran into Big Ben when he had a clear path at a TD vs. Pitt in one of the AFC Champ games, but he was getting flack for not being good enough to win it all, etc. Lots of other players get the same type of thing.

Homer Bailey with a no hitter, I admit I lost faith in this guy a couple years ago but I'm glad he's making me look foolish.

He's been on a great run lately, with him pitching like this playoff teams may want to start worrying about having to face us.

I'll admit I was ready to give up on him several years ago. Been a lot of fun watching him mature over the coarse of his career.

Hard to beleive he's only 26.

Isn't Houston moving to the AL next year? This year the other NL Central teams got 2 really bad teams in the Astros and Cubs. Next year they lose one of those "gimmes".

As far as the Reds, I think that they are probably my favorite to win it all this year. I don't really like them, but I do think that they have the best team overall. Their pitching has been incredible, and they have 4 starters who can go against anyone ......... and pitching generally carries a team in the post-season. Washington has also been spectacular, but I just have a gut feeling that some of my fellow Browns fans who are also Reds fans will get to celebrate a World Series win this year.

My "I can't believe that they didn't make the post-season" award goes to the Angels.

Down to the final game for best record. The schedule worked out nice to where the Reds will know if they have anything to play for tonight as the Nationals play a 1:05 game today.

The Nationals have to face Lee.
The Cardinals have nothing to play for tonight.
Here's to a meaningful Reds game this evening!

i could see any team that is making the post-season this year winning the whole thing. they all have strengths and just need their weaknesses to get on a hot streak.

cinci, washington, sf, atlanta, st.l - st.louis is probably the weakest of those teams, but you never know with them.

baltimore, nyy, detroit, texas, oakland - we might have the rangers v. yankees in the play-in game. how crazy is that (considering standings just a week ago). baltimore is probably the weakest team here but they seemingly get things done in 1run games this year (I think their luck will run out).

if I had to pick favorites, then I'd say: Washington over NYY
i'm rooting to see: Oakland over Cinci (reverse the 1990 WS )

I guess Votto has to get hurt in order for the offense to get a jump start again, they're barely above the mendoza line this month.

They can't really afford to fall behind early in any of these games against the Giants.

Wow, great run by the A's.

No chance at a number 1 seed for the Reds tonight, but at least they get to rest some regulars. Maybe Bailey can pull an Johny Vander Meer tonight.

Starting on the road as the 2 seed is just dumb.

I'm surprised to see Phillips in the lineup, the groin must not be bothering that much after all.

reds are not allowed to have good pitching and good hitting at the same time. if they start hitting, then their pitchers have to start giving up a ton of runs again.

So excited for tonight, come on Reds!!

I'm going to do my Reds playoff posting in this thread, too much smack already in the MLB playoff thread. Hopefully, that'll keep the Tribe people busy over there.

I'm usually tuning baseball completely out this time of year. Last time we were in the playoffs, I didn't have much optimism because the rest of the field seemed overwhelming and the team just a touch too young. This year it seems as open as ever to where I want to expect us to come out of the NL- but can't completely say I expect to. The Giants I think are the strongest because of their pitching and their lineup seems capable enough to hit timely enough to win. I mean we're facing Lincecum in game three for goodness' sake!

Side note: I'd be all about the new playoff format if they kept the opening series as a 2-2-1 format instead of having a team with a better record start out on the road for two games of a five game series. That doesn't sit well with me.

I don't like the playoff format either. You shouldn't penalize the teams with the better records by making them start on the road. I would like to see a 3-2 set up and that 1 game wild card playoff stuff smells, anybody can get lucky and win 1 game in baseball.

and GO REDS!

You should either be very comforted, or very afraid, because I picked the Reds to win it all.

Yeah I can vouch for you, I've noticed you have stuck by that prediction all season.

Chapman scared the sheet out of me that inning but got the strike out when it counted. Hopefully that was some valuable experience gained and we aren't going to see any more of that this postseason.

I'm not watching, but CBS has the game 9-0 Reds in the 8th. That's a strong start (along with game 1, obviously) to the post-season for them.

I'd like to throw up Bailey in game three and hope we can just pull the sweep off to get Cueto some rest. We're going to need him for the title run!

On shift at the firehouse last night, and the bell goes off for a fire right after Phillips pops up to lead off the game.

Oh well, I got to see the last 4 innings.

Here's to a sweep tomorrow!

It's alright that we didn't win tonight since I bought game 4 tickets about a month ago.

Yes, I know I'm being selfish, hopefully it doesn't backfire.
