So I bought the Game Rewind package a few weeks ago...and I've been dealing with a sick child and some insomnia.....so I decided to watch some of the games from last year again.

Oh boy.

Somehow I don't remember them being this bad. Granted I've ONLY rewatched the wins!

Seriously! I mean really, really bad offense. Really bad.

Indianapolis
Miami
Seattle
Jacksonville.

Things that I realized right away....

I really didn't know how often McCoy threw his receivers into oncoming defenders. It was a lot. Like he was oblivious to it.

There was one in the Indianapolis game where he threw the ball to the slot receiver heading to the sideline about 2 seconds after the snap...I mention this because he had enough time to read the defense. Well he threw that ball against zone coverage right into a waiting DB that almost sent him to the hospital.

And there were other throws into trouble, and QBs sometimes have to make these throws, where he threw them high, unnecessarily exposing WRs to shots.

McCoy was literally dangerous to our skill players!

As much as I wanted Tannehill, I now fully understand the Weeden pick. Fully.

I was at the Miami game. So it was nice to rewatch that one just to get a clearer picture of some of the key plays.

I guess the fact that we engineered that drive at the end washed the rest of the stench off of the previous 55 game minutes.

But yeah...real bad. I can't imagine what Heckert, Holmgren, Shurmur and the other folks who get paid to rewatch this stuff over and over and over had to think.

ugh.

btw...if anyone has any specific game questions hit me up. always happy to dig in if need be.

That was my birthday. I have never been to a sporting event in which the home team won, and people were still leaving the place mad.

It was by far the most boring game I have ever watched. Yes, a win is a win, but from the perspective of a consumer, it was horrible.

I was also plastered enough to actually stay and watch the whole thing.

Same here. And it was. And I was at the Jax game. Not pretty, either.

I did not go to the Seattle game because we had something going on until early afternoon.

I have never been so happy to have a game DVR'd. We seriously watched the entire game in fast forward, and it was still painful.

And thus why I coined the term "McCoy'ed." He was a detriment to pass-catchers and why he had to be replaced.

Glad you got the package. I'm not going to invest the time but will be looking forward to observations.

The Colts game was actually a really good game for us. It was also the only game Peyton Hillis showed up in. Everything clicked that day. Kerry Collins was horrible too and that helped.

I had all of our games on DVR until the draft. The 30 minute shorts from sunday ticket are fantastic. Anyway, rewatching them before the draft really showed me just how bad our RT, QB, RB, FS and RDE were. These positions were horrible and I believe all but FS were massively upgraded.

I would hardly consider Rucker and Parker massive upgrades. Upgrades yes..massive no. Parker is on his last legs. Rucker has always been a rotational player.
I rather have Andre Carter than both of them.
Schwartz could be a stud, but it take him time to adapt to the speed of the NFL game.
Micheal Oher is still struggling. It took Andre Smith 3 years to "get it"
James Carpenter who taken at 22 by the Seahawks, struggled all year.

When you go from the worst DE in the NFL to average types, that is a massive upgrade. Getting Benard back and mentally stable is huge. I would not be surprised to see him opposite Sheard on most downs before the year is done.

I think Swartz will be way ahead of most rookie OL this year as they used this same blocking scheme at Cal. By week 3 or 4 we should see the OL coming together. Plus we are adding the one outside piece so not as much change. Last year we had 2 new interior OL and revolving bums at RT.

I think Benard is the X factor. He offers a bit more than Rucker/Parker.
Benard can even drop back in pass coverage just to change it up.
Auston English I would not be surprised if he beat out Parker for a final roster spot.
But I would feel better if the Browns had a proven pass rusher coming off the right side.
In this league if you let a QB stand and read the field your cooked. He has to hit the ground.
Taylor's absensce will be felt.

Getting Benard back will help our pass rush some, but it certainly won't be any magic tonic.

If there is any good news at all about this defense, it seems that the entire offseason focus for it has been to improve our run stopping - and I could not agree more with that approach.

Any opinions on him being better or worse as a 4-3 DE than a 3-4 OLB?

Which is great, unless it's a play-action run. He hasn't been stellar in run support in the past.

I think he has more value to the team as a pass-rush DE specialist in the 4-3 than he did as a sham OLB in a 3-4.

Unfortunately, losing Taylor will hurt our pass rush. He had to be accounted for on every down just based on his sheer size/bulk. Coming straight up the gut at the QB is not something any QB wants to see.

That being said, I expect that we will see a huge improvement from Sheard this year. I am putting him down for 12-15 sacks. I do think that the combination of Rucker/Parker on the other side will demand at least some help, and with Rubin on the inside, Sheard should explode this year. We had 32 sacks last year, and the number was that low, at least in part, because teams stopped passing against us shortly after halftime last year. I don't think that they'll be able to do that this year.

Out of curiosity, which package did you choose? The premium with the "ALL-22" footage or just the step below?

Sheard is a marked man this year. Wouldn't surprise me if he took a step back.

We must get a rush from the other side if Sheard is to exceed his rookie year. I'm not sure that will happen unless Benard surprises us all (and I don't think that is outside the realm of possibility).

No more sneaking up on the league. Sheard will be accounted for.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

I got the premium one that includes everything. I figure I'll be able to go back and take a look at the All-22 a few times over the week. I'll also be able to check out other games and their stuff as well.

I'm pretty excited about it!

When I went back and watched the Miami game Sheard really stood out.

Man he looks like he might be a top-5 strong side DE this year.

I agree on Sheard. He is one of the most complete defensive ends that I have seen since our return. Getting that blind side rusher to go with Rubin, Big Phil and Sheard is key for our long term success. Big time pass rusher and this can be one of those elite front fours that wreck havoc for a decade.

The one concern I have with him is I felt he was too ambitious to get into the backfield, which caused a good amount of runs to get by him.

I started rewatching games as well. I've only started watching the first Cincy game all over again, but not to the point where we collapsed on that pass to Green because it was just too painful.

I really felt like our offense went downhill over the year after that game. I also felt like McCoy's confidence in himself must have really gone down as well. I felt like the offense was much more open in the first game. There were some passes that were thrown really well, but he also had some thrown behind wide receivers, he did prefer the come-back routes with a stationary target.

The touchdown to Watson was a good read by McCoy and a decent pass while on the run, but he did throw the ball a little behind Watson. I felt like he didn't have confidence in himself later in the season to make those same-type throws. But, man, was Watson open on that play.

Up to the meltdown play, the defense really showed up. I think they really started to rattle Dalton. Offense actually seemed to not be abysmal for having no offseason to implement it, but I felt like it really regressed over the year, especially with all the Hillis issues.

Had Cincy lost that game, I think their season would have been totally different.

It's kind of funny how the barometer for Cincinnati's season is their first game against Cleveland. It seems every time they lose Game 1 against Cleveland in recent years, they finish the season with a really bad record. I think about 2010, 2008, 2007 off the top of my head. 2011, 2009 they beat us first and made the playoffs.

I really believe Game 2 (as in week 2) will be extremely important for both us and them this year, especially if they open up with a loss against Baltimore.

2011 was truly a debacle.

2012 could be just as bad.
