my son is going to be thrilled. he is only '4' and we watched the first 2 legs. he loved Bodemeister and so he hated that purple horse that snuck up at the end of both races

I don't really understand the fascination of the "Triple Crown"...can someone explain?
Is it just the three biggest races of the year won by one horse (and does it have to the same jockey to count)? That each race is a bit different in track (grass, dirt, etc) and in length?
Let's say I'll Have Another was able to race and wins.....he's the first Triple Crown horse in 34-blah years.....what then?

3 different types of races over a short period of time to train for each of them with a multitude of different horses challenging you each race.
it's an impressive feat

it's a great accomplishment. i'll admit, I wanted to watch, and had he won I would have been thrilled, but it probably would have been away from my mind a day later.
It still would have been pretty cool to see one horse win 3 really tough races.
You can say the same for all sports. Giants win the Super Bowl, we're all Browns fans. They beat the Patriots, then what?

Exactly... he'll do very well as it is having won the first two legs. Winning all three though = REALLY big money.
As for the fascination with the Triple Crown, I guess it exists because it is one of those rare, "holy grail" sporting accomplishments. Kind of like a pitcher tossing a perfect game. It doesn't happen often and when a horse has a chance to win all three, even very casual racing fans like me are at least interested in witnessing history being made. ::shrug::

Ok, thanks all.
I don't know if it's the same as winning the Super Bowl.....more like winning the Grand Slan in tennis or golf I assume. Each individual race is big....but the Grand Slam/Triple Crown is bigger than the sum....it's HUGE.
Oh well, too bad for horse racing. They went from having a twister on the national sports ratings radar to a fart in the wind. Gonzo. Back to being the 47th most important sport in the States.

Pretty much. I won't be watching tomorrow.
Speaking of sports tomorrow, giant fail by the NHL putting game 5 against game 7 of the Celtics and Heat. What the hell are they thinking?

That MOST people that watch either sport probably wouldn't be watching the other one anyways..?

Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?
