Many times when I come on the forum and click the "Log In" button, it takes me to my user control panel but still says "You are not logged in" in the upper left corner. If I visit any of the forums it doesn't show my read or unread posts and I'm unable to reply to threads. Each time this happens I have to click on My Cookies and then expire them and log back in. It's not the end of the world but it is tedious. Any thoughts? (and yes, cookies are enabled in my browser)

No ideas off the top of my head. Which browser are you using (and version)??

I'm using the latest version of Safari, 5.1.7.
It will also happen if I've left the browser open with the website loaded, but shut my laptop so that it's gone to sleep. When I come back to the page and click on the Main Index link, it will load the main page but say in the upper left that I'm not logged in. When I click to log in, it has my login name and password saved like it should, but when I click enter it exhibits the behavior described above.

could it be that there is an apple.com or safari-specific cookie being set that has the same name/id as a DT set cookie? It kind of sounds like the DT cookies expire but additional ones are enabling certain functions to occur.

Have you tried deleting all of your cookies, as well as your temp files. Stranger things have happened.

cookies are individually named by site, so nothing should be stomping on them The DT cookies are set to expire - a year from their last accessed date; so this shouldn't be the issue.
I'd check the Safari settings and see if there is something where it is prematurely cleaning cookies on its own or something. I'd also try a different browser, like Chrome, to verify whether or not the issue is isolated to the one browser.

Thanks. I considered trying a different browser but I'm used to Safari, and since its not a serious issue I'll just deal with it for the time being I suppose. If I figure anything out with regards to why its happening I'll post it here.

Well, the reason I suggested trying a different browser wasn't to suggest that you switch, but instead to see if that isolates the issue. i.e. does it occur regardless of which browser you use, or only with Safari, etc?

Yeah I understand. Even so, isolating it to a particular browser doesn't do me any good if I plan on using that browser regardless. If helps you out with general board maintenance I can give it a whirl though.

Well, if nothing else, it may help you track down and isolate the root cause.
I'm fairly certain that the issue isn't the site, but if the issue were to persist across browsers you could at least know that it is likely a machine/OS-level issue, and if anyone ever had the issue again, you'd at least be able to point them in the right direction.

Here's a dumb question:
On your log in screen, do you have the "keep me logged in" box checked?
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

I rarely use Safari but I have the same version on my mac and it works fine for me. I just opened it and went to this site and it showed I was logged in, just like firefox does. So whatever the issue, it's not the site and Safari will work as it should.

I notice this problem if i log in on my home computer, then try to log in on my droid a few hours later it does what you are talking about. Takes a day or two before it lets me log in on my phone. Just figured it was some sort of glitch since i use my phone as well.

That's just coincidental. The site doesn't care if you're logged in from more than one place (or, even a hundred) at a time. There are no checks for it at all. The more likely reason is that your phone just has trouble storing the cookie from login.

I think this might be an Apple issue here. Because I get the same issue on my wife's macbook when I try to access this site, especially after accessing it on the laptop followed by my phone and then on her laptop again. Though a simple cookie deletion fixes it.

Well, unless they're no longer storing cookies locally and your browsing sessions are tied somehow to an ID so that cookies are stored in a cloud, I'm not sure how it would matter, really.
But, I agree.... it seems that it would be their issue. I'd be concerned about how/where they're storing things, though.
