I haven't heard much on the Ben Tate front lately but was curious if anyone else has?

We have thirteen picks this year including compensatory picks that cannot be traded. I expect the Browns to be looking at teams that either made a change in leadership, a change in scheme or have few selections at their disposal.

1. Are short on picks: (6 or less)

- Atlanta
- New England (last pick is 126 in the fourth round???)
- New Orleans
- Oakland
- Seattle

2. Have changed Head Coach or scheme

- Tampa Bay
- Jacksonville
- Miami (what the heck is going on in Florida?)
- Indianapolis
- Oakland
- St. Louis
- Kansas City (Romeo goes from interim to HC)

If you hear of anything on this front throw it in here....

Personally I'd love to get Tate. I'd certainly do it for our third rounder. Not sure if Houston would though. I'd consider 37 but man there's a lot of good young talent in that spot. I'd be 50/50 on that one.

Some players that come to mind from some of these teams that would be interesting to me:

1. Taylor Price - Hasn't found regular playing time. Would be a useful addition.
2. Atari Bigby - The youngins they have are really really good. Atari was pretty good roaming the field in Green Bay and is too good to be a backup for a team like Seattle that needs a lot elsewhere.
3. Greg Jones - Loved watching him at Florida State...if you have the inclination go to youtube and watch some FSU highlights. Always thought he'd be a great WCO FB. Maybe we could pry him out of Jacksonville.
4. Ikaika Alama-Francis - Very good player for Hawaii. Stuck as a backup LBer in Miami he's a 6'5" 270 quick twitch guy who would be a nice rotational DL here.
5. Jerious Norwood - Situational guy for the Rams would be the same here. But a certain upgrade on Ogbananahowisheonourteam.

Cleveland Browns Looking at Trade for Ben Tate

On Wednesday, March 14, NationalFootballAuthority.com reported that the Cleveland Browns are interested in trading for Houston Texans running back Ben Tate. The Texans re-signed Arian Foster to a long-term deal early in the off-season which makes Tate more expendable.

I've wanted the Browns to take Alabama RB Trent Richardson with the fourth overall pick in the draft since the season ended. I think he's one of the best talents to come out of college in his position since Adrian Peterson left Oklahoma. Many experts believe that clubs should never take an RB that high in the draft, but when a player like Richardson comes around, you almost have to pick him.

Richardson is the unique package of speed, quickness and toughness which makes him a future star. He runs low, has great vision, and is solid out of the backfield. I think the Browns would be foolish to pass on him, unless they find a deal that could seal up a major hole on the roster. I think that deal could be a trade for Ben Tate.

Though he's not as explosive as Richardson, Tate is an outstanding talent who would feature well in the Browns offense. He ran for 942 yards on just 175 carries for a 5.4 yards-per-carry average and four touchdowns in 2011. Tate also exhibited some pass catching skills late in the season and finished with 13 receptions for 98 yards.

I don't want the Browns to pass on Richardson, but if they can get a playmaker like Tate and still keep the No. 4 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, then I think they should go for it. If the Browns can get Tate and select Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon with their pick, they would have two explosive players to help quarterback Colt McCoy for at least the next five years.

A deal for Tate would give the team some options. Of course, that depends on what the Browns send the Texans. Let's speculate (and only speculate) that Cleveland sends Houston a third-round pick. The Browns could also pass on Blackmon and trade down hoping to get Michael Floyd. That would also leave the team with plenty of flexibility for the rest of the first two rounds.

I think Trent Richardson would look outstanding in a Browns' uniform, but if the team can make a deal that would help add more playmakers to the roster, then it's time to get it done. Hopefully, the Browns can make the deal for Tate and get the ball rolling for 2012 and beyond.

It looks seriously dead, but if we did get Tate, that would cause me to reconsider Richardson.

It's all based on need, availability, risk, and reward.

Hasselbeck could make sense since Locker takes over in TEN and Holmgren knows him....maybe for the Brady Quinn 5th rounder from DEN

That's if we miss out on our QB target or don't like anyone but still want some competition for the position...or maybe we trade Colt and draft one but trade for Hasselbeck to spot start until the rook is ready

Another possibility is CB Leodis McKelvin from Buffalo as he's in hist last year of his rookie contract and won't get re-signed there...

Word around Houston was the Tate trade was a bunch of crap... I don't think the Texans ever had any intention of trading him...

There's one player I want from the Texans, their starting right tackle the last couple years.

Not if the player is young.

If I was planning to trade for, or signing a decent RB at this point, I'd just wait till after the draft to not give away one of our possible pick selections in 3 weeks. Any more RB's coming to Cleveland before the draft all but eliminates taking Richardson.

I'm sure I've read that there's no way the Texans would trade Tate.
