Can we start a thread for who the Skins AREN'T trying to get . . . ?

They're looking at Grubbs now . . .

Too bad they are so crippled by that whole $36 million thing .........

well, you kinda had a good point the other day..Your numbers were a little off but thats no biggie.

They are required to take at least half of that off this year and the rest next year. so they had about 31 million in cap space, take away 18 and they still have 13 million left., so depending on how they structure things. it could work ok.. just means they can't go REALLY nuts

I know this has been brought up elsewhere, but I think that it could be important because the Chiefs Offensive Coordinator is Brian Daboll, who used Hillis so well in Cleveland.

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2012/03/cleveland_browns_free_agent_ru.html

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns free agent running back Peyton Hillis will visit the Chiefs, a source told The Plain Dealer Tuesday.

In Kansas City, Hillis would be reunited with former Browns offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, who has that job with the Chiefs. He'd also play for head coach Romeo Crennel, who once led the Browns.

Under Daboll in 2010, Hillis had his breakout season, rushing for 1,177 yards and nine touchdowns and was second on the team with 61 receptions for 477 yards and two TDs. Daboll will undoubtedly push for a quick signing of Hillis.

Hillis has said he'd like to stay in Cleveland, but it remains to be seen if the Browns will make him an offer. Browns GM Tom Heckert said last week he'd re-sign Hillis if the price was right. If the Browns don't re-sign Hillis, they'll likely look elsewhere for a running back, including the No. 4 pick in the draft, where Alabama's Trent Richardson could be available.

I'm not sure it was necessarily Daboll who was the key to success for Hillis. Hillis had success this past season...when he was on the field and not sidelined because of injury or sickness.

I wonder if we are going to cut Steinbach? Maybe try to sign him for less if they do?

The fact remains that the 2 are reportedly close, and that Daboll got the most out of Hillis, both as a runner and a receiver .... and scoring TDs.

WR deals are crazy this year.

Calvin nearly $20mil/year
VJ over $11mil/year
Colston, StevieJ, Garcon, Wayne all around $8mil/year
Welker on franchise at $9.4mil wanting long-term deal like above

can't remember what Douglass got.
Morgan was bargain basement at under $3mil/year.

Well, it's a passing league....so naturally QBs and WRs are going to be getting the big contracts. Outside of AP and Chris Johnson, when was the last time a RB got HUGE money?

You do realize he agreed to be a complimentary RB behind Charles do you?

Hillis was incredibly overrated by this fanbase

Why? We evidently didn't want him.

It's also not surprising. Daboll loved the guy. He's their new offensive coordinator. (although I heard from someone once upon a time that he would probably never work in the NFL again .....)

I would love to have Tate on the team if we can pull off that trade. As much as I liked Hillis, I do think that Tate is even better.

Perhaps, but when your the browns you can't afford to lose any talent.

We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

Before this thread goes bananas, some facts:

- he signed for only 1 year...maybe the "retirement talk" wasn't so off after all

- he's clearly the no2 RB

- he "only" got 3mil

It's safe to say that he wasnt in high demand

It seems every year we watch players go and don't do alot to bring in top tier free agents, electing to "build through the draft" which is fine if it works. It works for some teams, but if my memory is correct, the regimes we have had here have not been able to get it right. They play the game for a year or two and then hit win now mode at which time they go all in and get the wrong guys. They bring in guys that are either miscast in our scheme, malcontent, past there prime or just plain very unlucky and don't ever contribute. I just hope that we are not starting down that same road again.
I still have faith in H&H but it is waivering a bit. IF they see Colt as being O.K. going forward, so be it. IF they feel Hillis needed to go then O.K.IF they felt no need to go after any free agents of note, fine. But IF we do not improve the WR,OL,DE,OLB etc. positions and we do not upgrade the RB position after letting Hillis go then maybe H&H are not the men for this job.And I do not want them to reach win now mode because we have seen how that has worked out.

at this point I honestly feel we have no other option but to use our first 3 picks on nothing but offense.. ie WR, OT, OG, RB..

cuz there is no way we improve on offense when we have done nothing but subtracted so far... -Steiny - Hillis - Pashos

I'm frustrated right now... things better click this year.

just clicking....

Was thinking about a post on FB my nephew made. It got me further thinking about who H&H might still bring in on offense that would fit the mold of not breaking the bank, but still be a good signing if the money were right. Just thinking out loud.

O-Line
I like all three of the OL, though only at a good price. I think Schwartz is restricted and may not be worth whatever tender he has.

- Levi Brown
- Vernon Carey
- Geoff Schwartz (I think he's restricted)

WR
Since it is looking like Colt is the guy for 2012, I think we need an experienced WR that runs good routes. Reggie Wayne would have been on this list if he didn't sign. Lloyd might be too high priced for H&H. The other two are good route runners and have experience in the WCO. Deion has experience with Holmgren as well, though he's getting a little long in the tooth, so it'd have to be a 1 or 2 year deal. I liked Steve Smith when he signed with Philly, would love to have him in Cleveland at the right price, and assuming his knee is ok.
- Deion Branch
- Brandon Lloyd
- Steve Smith (Philly/NYG version, not CAR)

RB
I'm not excited about either of these guys and question if any are an upgrade over what we have (that's sad), though LeGarrett has the talent to. Morris is ont he wrong side of 30, but has low mileage and a lot of experience in WCO - he was a joy to watch in Seattle.
- Maurice Morris
- LeGarrett Blount (restricted)

Since H&H are notoriously quiet about who they bring in - what players do ya'll think we might bring in that fits the H&H mold?

It really doesn't matter does it. He had an offer on the table here for a longer term deal.. he didn't accept it. I'm sad to lose him, but I'm certainly not ready to jump off a bridge because he left...

I think the Hillis of two years ago will be missed, but the hillis from last year won't.

I agree he probably isn't as good as some made him out to be. However on a team as devoid of offensive talent as the Browns, it woulda been nice to keep him, especially if the price was that low.

Well, here we are approaching 48 hours of free agency and we've done less than what I expected. And I didn't expect much.

The WRs on my list are ALL gone now that the Jags signed Laurent Robinson.

This disappoints me. As far as I know, there are no WRs left that would fit or would be really be an upgrade over what we have and what I THINK (hope ) we will get in the draft.

Of the positions of need, there are still the RBs and LBs left, and there are some GOOD ones left. So far this is the only thing I am seeing on that front . . .

Saints hosting David Hawthorne

Oh wait, I forgot to start looking at safeties . . .

The point is what do we have without him? <cricket... ...cricket>.

With him we didn't HAVE to take a RB in the 1st 3 rounds of the draft. I contend that without him we now do. You can really only count the 1st 3 rounds of the draft as potential immediate starter rounds. You can get lucky after that but don't count on it. With all our other holes and hopes at improving the passing game we now have to spend an early one on a RB.

Can we find a player who is *better* than Hillis right out of the gates in the draft? Say what you want about him the guy is a major catalyst when he's playing well. He was a spark on a team remarkably devoid of them. I'm not drinking the cool-aid that good RB's that can catch out of the backfield and hit the hole hard are a dime a dozen.

I think if it was announced we signed him to a 3 year deal worth 12M everyone would have high-fived each other because we got him cheap and and it's one less headache. I personally think a lot of his drama goes away with a contract. A bunch of people now say we're better without him? No, we're not.

There's still some backs out there in FA and I'm holding out hope for 2 of them.
