I am heading to the hospital on Thursday for Sinus Surgery as an outpatient visit.

I have done a lot of research concerning the procedure, and realize that the surgery is not that bad, but the healing time is not much fun.

Just wondering, has anyone ever went through the surgery and if so, how was the experience for you.

I had a deviated septum corrected, and they removed tissue from the opening to my sinuses. I don't recall it being terribly horrible ....... I think I went back to work a few days after, IIRC.

It did suck having to try to sleep with a nose full of packing that first night though.

My ex had deviated septum surgery, mostly it was because she was tired of being compared to Barbara Streisand and wanted a cute button nose. When she came out of surgery and was back in her room, while I was applying ice to her face she looked up at me and said, "I can't believe I did this to myself". My first thought was to hit her in the nose! I fought off the urge though...

i had some polyps and cysts removed years ago. My doctor didn't use a laser he did it with a needle, and a tweezer like device. I healed up fine in about a week.

One thing that was weird was when they took the packing out after the surgery. I will swear to God that it was like that movie total recall when they pulled that device out of arnolds nose. One nurse was kinda holding me from moving forward, while the other pulled....I thought damn, this stuff is never coming out.

Doctor actually gave me a video tape. Well worth a little suffering for a week. I can breath way better. Supposedly the laser heals even quicker, but my doctor felt that the needle which actually was used as a scalpel was more precise.

This is good to know, I'm getting a Cat Scan done on my sinuses soon because I have major sinus issues. I get non-stop sinus headaches, and recently it has gotten very bad.

I've noticed triggers like temperature change and i'm supposidly allergic to tree pollen and dust. Also i've noticed that i get sinus headaches from simply drinking beer (how depressing is that!)

So it's something I have to figure out as I've been dealing with this for too many years and lately it's just gotten much worse. Last month I got two sinus infections (same month!), and that's not to mention all the headaches I get.

So yeah, I'm thinking it's gonna come down to surgery, and it's good to know it doesn't sound that bad

Wife had it done, removed cists and polips as well, had a helluva time breathing through her nose before surgery, as soon as she woke up she was amazed she could actually breathe through her nose, she recovered in about 2 weeks, but DR wouldn;t let her work til the start of the 5th week. Now 5 years later she is still doing okay.

Good luck to you.

I forgot about that....I'll never forget when the doctor first suctioned it out after it healed for a few days....it was like breathing thru my mouth...i couldn't believe it, no restriction what so ever.

Its probably been 15 years for me i think, nose gets a little stuffy now from allergies, but its still pretty good. I'm sure smoking for years didn't help either.

Starglow, please let me know how it goes. I've broken my nose so many times, that the only thing it's good for anymore is holding the glasses on my face.

Surgery went well. Anyone that has problems breathing through their nose, and your ENT doctor recommends this surgery, I say go for it.

Nose is a bit clogged up right now, not much packing used at all (very little swelling & pain)...but the huge thing is, I can taste food.

Been munching on blueberries and small apple pieces. Also have eaten almost a half of gallon of peppermint/chocolate chip ice cream and it is tasting very good. I was told that I would not be able to taste food for days if not a week, so life is good.

Can't wait until I am able to breathe through of my nose and the bleeding stops. I guess I should give that a few days.
