Facebook Timeline Now Pushed To Everyone, Users Get A Week To Clean Up Profiles

http://www.digitalmarketingguy.com/35281...p-profiles.html

Facebook Timeline... I have to admit, I have failed to convert to the new Timeline that Facebook has introduced. Well, there is no longer time to push it aside. According to this article from TechCrunch, Facebook Timeline is an element that is here to stay within the Facebook world, and soon everyone will be forced to convert to the Timeline version of Facebook.

What you need to know about Facebook Timeline is that it allows users to see every post that you have ever written. It's time to get on Facebook and cleanup your wall. Facebook is giving us all a 7 day period to ensure that what our social world is seeing, is what we really want them to see/read about us. For those of you that don't log onto Facebook frequently, I wanted to be sure to give you a heads up before the time period elapses.

Facebook Timeline

So, for those of us who have never written much beyond "Have a nice day", or "Hope yu have a good day too" ...... and who have, maybe, 10 total messages on Facebook ........... well, we don't have to worry too much about things, right?

I don't think I've ever posted anything of any substance on Facebook, so I don't have anything to worry about.

My friends that are also on this site can back me up on that.

Thank you for confirming not only that I never post anything of substance, but also that you are a ninny.

Without reading the article, it's still just viewable by your friends, right? If so, what difference could it make - you put it there for them to read it or someone put it there for you to read and if you left it there you didn't have a problem with it, it's not like things just magically appear out of nowhere.

well, I can see people having new friends that they may not want to see some of the older stuff. i assume there is a way of just deleting your entire history ahead of time though, right?

if so, everyone should just delete and start fresh and go from there just to be safe if they are worried.

Good rule of thumb...don't put anything out there you wouldn't want everyone to see. If I want it private, I send a message instead of posting it on someone's facebook page.

Also, we've all been able to go back and see ALL of everyone's posts the whole time, it just took longer to do so in the "old" format. It's much quicker in the timeline format. Frankly, I like the timeline format. It looks more organized to me. I don't have to look at page after page after page of Farmville crap to see something someone posted yesterday. It groups all game activity together in one post.

I'm seeing a crapload of people complaining about it, but I look at it this way...it's a free service, they can make as many changes to it they want as long as I'm still able to easily keep in contact with my family members that aren't local (and therefore don't see my daughter often) for free. That is the biggest reason I signed up for FB. If I was paying for it, well, I *might* complain about it, but probably not, since I actually like this change. LOL!

Very true ... however it's also upsetting.

I have my FB page essentially on lockdown. The ONLY people who can view stuff is friends. Not even friends of friends.

I was on it pretty early and according to the timeline jumped on it back in 2005.

Do I really want people to be able to read my posts from when I was still in High school....? It's just kind of like the "hey this is your diary - you can make sure no-one can read it...." and then all of a sudden it's like "oh by the way ... remember when we said you could keep it private? Well now we are changing the rules without your consent... so I hope you didn't put anything bad on there!!!"

Exactly.

My [general] motto: "If you woundn't say it on the radio in your home town, don't put it on the net."

I've strayed from that ideal a few times over the years, but a very few. And... even though BFS'79 loves to rub my nose in it with every post he makes...

...I'd actually only had a couple drinks the night I gave him his newest sig addition....

I never say anything on facebook that I would not say in person if my wife was in the room with me.

I used it originally to keep in touch with some guys within my hobby. It grew to some old friends and some I didnt even know. Dont say too much on there but if anythings offensive tough! Like Television just turn me off!

Timeline is nonsense and I dont see me personally going back to see what someone says when I really dont give a crap what most of them are saying in the present!

Could shut the whole thing down and not miss it for the most part.

LOL sorry everyone, my understanding is that it switches over and you will be able to go back and look at your life in a timeline with everything you have ever said. I am seriously considering deleted facebook. I have had relationships in the past and I don't need my ex seeing my fb posts etc and I don't want to see hers. they are burried in the past for a reason. I don't need/want a shovel.

I personally don't care. I've posted the same relative stuff on there for years. With an increased focus on things I see as important as I've gotten older. A few coworkers and me also post videos of our favorite songs, so it's kinda cool to look back at what we've posted over the past 2 years.Only thing that really surprised me is how much I post about crude oil.

I rarely post anything personal. I'm fairly reserved in my day to day, and it translates over to the net. Regardless, I think it's better to accept your past as shaping who you are in the present, with a focus on improving a little bit every day. Dwelling on/regretting the past is counterproductive. Especially if you don't learn anything from it.

What is stopping her from going back and see it now, before the Timeline hits?

I don't comment much on Facebook, and since my old Pastor is on my friends list, I double think anytime I do comment or post something.

Exactly.....and I would include your boss, too. We've had some people suspended from work for fb posts. There is no assumption of privacy there.

+1 on the boss

Heck, if you're applying for a new job, don't you think the first thing the HR reps do is throw your name into Google and see what pictures, videos and comments are spat out.

I have to thank heaven my high school and college career was lived when the internet wasn't like it is today. ONE act of stupidity can keep you unemployed forever.

And for the record, I'm not on Facebook. I suppose I should be to keep up with my family and friends....but I just can't sign up for some reason. I just found out one of my friends from high school died of leukemia in Nov. I hadn't stayed in touch with that group and I missed the fundraiser and funeral by two months. So pissed I wasn't there to help. Maybe I would have known if I was on Facebook.

That's the advantage of Fb. I now keep in touch with people I haven't seen or heard from since HS.....and that was a looong time ago.

I can assure you that from an Employers stand point, some of us do indeed go and check out an applicants social media sites...

That's the first thing my boss does when she gets an applicant. I'm usually the one doing the search for her.

But, it's also why I have 2 FB accounts. One for work in my current name only. My personal one has my maiden name. The work one usually has a picture of something from work, or me on it. The personal usually has me and/or my daughter.

And frankly, I wouldn't use an email address associated with FB on any type of job application. Luckily both my maiden name and married are common enough that you'll pull up several folks with the same or similar name - and I keep my account visible to Friends only.

Our first is to check local arrest records, then social media sites

Same when I'm looking for new tenants as well. Can find out a lot of interesting things about people online.

Had one lady showed up to view the house looking like she just came from her street corner after a long hard night. Her reason for wanting to move from current residence is that she didn't like the neighbors. Through a short internet check found out she was arrested for a distubance involving her landlord.

After speaking with one of her references (yes she wrote this person down on the application as a character reference) he told me the whole story was about her constant male friends that came and went from her apartment and when the landlord inquired about the complaint from neighbors, she pulled a knife on him.

Needless to say, we didn't rent to her. Don't need the drama.
