Chandler Jones would be a great pickup. The kid has an endless motor and played amazing on a subpar Syracuse defense (made 1st team all big east despite missing 5 games (his only 5 in school) with a knee sprain).

The only good thing I think about Vontez Burfict is that he might knock another good player down to us.

I think that he is horribly undisciplined, and I want no part of him.

Another report of declaration(s).

The New York Times reports Iowa OT Riley Reiff will forgo his senior season and enter the 2012 NFL draft.
A first-team All Big 10 selection, Reiff is generally considered to be one of the three best offensive tackles in the 2012 draft class along with Stanford's Jonathan Martin and USC's Matt Kalil. He's projected by most draftniks as a potential top-10 pick. At 6-foot-6, 300 pounds, Reiff may need to add a tad extra bulk, but has the potential to be someone's long-term answer at left tackle

NYT

NCSU confirmed Tuesday that linebacker Terrell Manning has decided to leave a year of eligibility on the table and make himself available for the April NFL draft. The Raleigh News & Observer reports that Manning has already hired an agent.

The news of Manning’s decision is somewhat of a surprise as he had previously stated his intentions were to return to the Wolfpack for another season.

A two-year starter, Manning led the team in tackles for loss with 14.5 and tied for the lead in sacks with five.

Reiley Reiff OT, Iowa has declared, reportedly.

While the school has yet to officially announce it, you can add Riley Reiff‘s name to the list of draft-eligible players leaving school early.

According to Pete Thamel of the New York Times, the offensive tackle informed head coach Kirk Ferentz earlier today of his decision to make himself available for the NFL draft. Reiff subsequently confirmed to Marc Morehouse of the Cedar Rapids Gazette that he has declared for the draft.

Reiff was a first-team All-Big Ten selection following the 2011 regular season after being a second-team performer the previous year. He had started all but two games the past three seasons.

The 6-6, 300-pounder is widely viewed as a lock to be taken in the first round of the draft.

3 more set to go.

Really good O linemen and Hosley a good overall CB with fair hands.

Pair of Stanford linemen also declaring for the draft

Add two more underclassmen to the growing list of those who will declare for the NFL Draft.

Just a day after a crushing defeat to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl, a pair of top lineman prospects decided to leave early. Stanford offensive linemen Jonathan Martin and David DeCastro announced their intentions to leave Palo Atlo and try their luck at the next level.

“It’s time to take the next step. This one hurt, but I want a new challenge,” said Martin.

“I have decided to enter the NFL draft,” DeCastro, a first-team All-American, said from his Twitter account, “Thanks to all who have supported me and Stanford football. I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else.”

Both lineman are considered to be first-round prospects.

Hosley leaving Hokies early to make draft leap

Following weeks of speculation, and after a heartbreaking loss in the Sugar Bowl, Jayron Hosley confirmed he’s played his final game in a Virginia Tech uniform.

The cornerback said after the overtime loss to Michigan that he will be leaving the Hokies early for the April NFL draft. The NFL’s draft advisory board indicated to Hosley that he would most likely be a second-round selection.

“It’s gonna be tough walking away but I got to do what I got to do,” Hosley said. “I think I handled my business pretty well.”

Hosley has been named to the first-team All-ACC team in each of the past two seasons.

Alshon Jeffrey and Stephon Gilmore to enter.

The 2011 NFL Draft has added another likely first round wide receiver.

ESPN’s Joe Schad reports that South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffrey will declare for the draft. Jeffrey’s numbers declined dramatically in his junior season, but he had a huge 148-yard effort in his final bowl game.

He won the game’s MVP award despite getting kicked out for Jeffrey also got kicked out of the game.

Jeffrey has the size (6’4, 229-pound) to be a high pick in the first round if he enjoys a strong draft season.

South Carolina CB Stephon Gilmore will forgo his senior year and enter the 2012 NFL draft.
Gilmore started all three years for the Gamecocks, intercepting seven career passes and earning third-team AP All-American honors as a sophomore. His production fell off as opponents shied away from targeting Gilmore as a junior. Gilmore is expected to be a day-two pick at the very worst, and his size (6'1/193, listed) will appeal to teams that prefer big cornerbacks.

Oregon junior running back LaMichael James has his agent and plans in order and is in process of formally informing the school that, as expected, he is entering the NFL draft, sources said Friday.

James rushed for 1,805 yards and scored 18 touchdowns this season for the Ducks, who won the Pac-12 championship and the Rose Bowl Game Presented by Vizio.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound James had 159 yards and a touchdown in Oregon's 45-38 victory ovre Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. He is the fourth-highest-ranked running back by ESPN's Scouts Inc.

I've said before, if we can get James in the 3rd round or later I am all for it.

He does have a history of a dislocated elbow doesn't he? How does he project as a 3rd round pick, I would think he is at least a late 2nd? Every mock I've seen has him going in the 3rd, that really surprises me.

I thought that he had more injuries than that during his college career but I cannot find any. I guess it felt like more because he missed a game in the 2010 season but turns out that wasn't because of injury. He had a one game suspension following a guilty plea for physical harassment against his ex girlfriend.

WE GOTTA GET THIS GUY! While I'm shocked he's leaving Toledo early, I wish him all the best and hope he ends up with the Browns. I swear to God, if he ends up with Pittsburgh or Baltimore...
*********************************************

Update: Page to skip senior season, enter NFL Draft
Written by Zach Davis

After three record-breaking seasons at Toledo, junior wide receiver Eric Page has decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft.

“It’s always been my dream to play in the NFL and I think right now is a great opportunity for me,” Page said. “This would have never been able to happen without my teammates, coaches and my family.”

Page, who says he is projected to be drafted between the third and fifth rounds of the NFL Draft at this time, will leave Toledo with 306 catches — just 43 behind NCAA record-holder Ryan Broyles (Oklahoma, 2008-11). He also is tied for the Mid-American Conference reception record with Jordan White (Western Michigan, 2007-11).

Toledo head coach Matt Campbell was unavailable for comment. The first-year head coach will have to replace 2,613 total yards of offense and 23 touchdowns between Page and senior running back Adonis Thomas for next year’s roster.

“Eric was an outstanding player and role model for Toledo football,” said Illinois head coach Tim Beckman, who coached Page all three years at UT. “I wish him the best in the NFL.”

Page had intended upon staying with the team following the Rockets 42-41 victory over Air Force on Dec. 28 in the Military Bowl but his decision changed as the Jan. 15 deadline to declare for the NFL Draft approached.

Among those who he spoke with about his decision was former Toledo receiver Stephen Williams (2005-09), who has spent the last two seasons as a member of the Arizona Cardinals. Williams signed as a priority free agent following the 2010 Draft with Arizona, picking the Cardinals over 14 other teams.

“I have been keeping in contact with Eric and I talked to him a bit earlier today,” Williams said. “I told him if he thinks he’s ready and if he can live with it being either the best decision or worst decision he’s made then go for it.”

Williams, who has nine catches for 101 yards in his two-year career, said he fully intends to recommend the Cardinals get Page to join him in Arizona.

“One thing about Eric is he makes an impact,” Williams said. “He can play in the NFL there’s not a doubt in my mind. Now he has to prove himself all over again. We know in college how talented he is. He has had a chip on his shoulder and he will play in the NFL and compete.”

Page amassed 306 catches for 3,446 yards in his three seasons at Toledo, all of which broke school records held by Williams. He also is tied for the career touchdown mark with New Orleans Saints wide receiver Lance Moore at 25.

“I have had the best three years [in my] hometown and I want to thank everyone for the support and believing in me,” Page said.

I know Wilson is not a junior, but I didn't want to start a new post for this and this thread seemed appropriate.

I would definitely take him in the 3rd. He'll probably move up on the boards though. I've watched him play a number of times and the guy is a beast. Essentially has broken every Toledo record, most of which were held by Lance Moore.

Two people familiar with the decision say LSU All-American cornerback Morris Claiborne has decided to leave school a year early to enter the NFL draft.
The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because LSU has not announced Claiborne's decision. LSU has scheduled a press conference Thursday afternoon with coach Les Miles.

This one doesn't make any sense. The only thing I can think is that it is a financial decision.

Quote:

EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon quarterback Darron Thomas is skipping his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

2012 NFL Draft
The Indianapolis Colts are officially on the clock. Follow the latest draft developments on ESPN.com.

Thomas made the announcement, which caught many by surprise, on Saturday night. He follows Oregon running back LaMichael James, who announced last week that he would skip his final year of eligibility.

"I came to this decision on behalf of myself and my family," Thomas said in a statement released by Oregon. "I have a dream of playing in the NFL and I'm going to pursue those dreams."

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound junior passed for 2,761 yards and a school-record 33 touchdowns this past season, despite missing a game because of an injury. He also ran for three scores. He threw only seven interceptions.

The Ducks finished 12-2 with losses to LSU and USC before beating Wisconsin 45-38 in the Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO. The previous season, the Ducks lost only to Auburn in the BCS championship game.

"As in all cases, we educate our players with the information we feel will be beneficial to them throughout the process but ultimately, the decision is left up to the players," Oregon coach Chip Kelly said. "I will always support Darron in his decision and want to thank him for everything he has done for this program. He obviously has played a major role in elevating Oregon football to new heights and I wish him well in the future."

Thomas had a school-record 66 touchdown passes in 31 games with the Ducks. He ranks sixth on the school's career list with 6,629 yards of total offense and seventh with 5,910 yards passing.

Backup Bryan Bennett is expected to lead the Ducks when Oregon opens spring practice on April 3. True freshmen Marcus Mariota and Jake Rodrigues will also compete for the job.

Very dumb decision. At the very least he should get his education. I would be surprised if he didn't get drafted until he 5th or 6th rd. Best hope is to make a squad like Dennis Dixon as a 3rd stringer.

Dennis Dixon was taken in the 5th round and he seems like he was a little better than Thomas. But someone might take a chance on him a little earlier because of the success of Cam Newton and Tebow.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that this year's QB class is pretty weak?

That's the only thing I could come up with where he thinks maybe he is overdrafted.

Next year is already building up to be as good as this year (on paper) with Barkely, Tyler Wilson, Tyler Bray, AJ McCarron, Landry Jones ... and that's not even counting the more athletic guys like Ej Manuel, MarQueis Gray and Geno Smith.

Plus .. not a lot of those guys play in "Gimmick" offenses ... so maybe he thinks this is a good shot to come out? Not sure unless it's just based upon depth of the class - or the pure dollar dollar bills.

With this new salary structure, if you can go pro, sooner the better. There isn't a lot of good backup QBs in the league right now and with Barkley, Jones, Manuel and the kid from Arkansas all returning, good time to come out. If he makes it one year, he will have enough to get started in life at whatever he wants to do.

Very dumb decision. At the very least he should get his education. I would be surprised if he didn't get drafted until he 5th or 6th rd. Best hope is to make a squad like Dennis Dixon as a 3rd stringer.

He is following a dream after a pretty good season.

Maybe he needs to make some money. He can go back to school whenever he decides he needs to do that. The window in which a person can play pro ball is pretty small.

Plus in this changing world and business cycle, holding a stock degree isn't really paying off any longer. If he can land a job paying him 150K-300K a year that might last 15 years as a back-up, IMO you'd be dumb not to take it.

Tell me why he shouldn't do that??

The thing that gets over looked, he already has his education. He has a degree to fall back on.

Good for him.

Another factoid....if you can land a NFl job, make say a million clear over a few years before washing out, don't go crazy, buy and pay for a nice house..load up an annuity with 200K at age 26.., you won't need a degree.

The bulk of your retirement is covered and you have a home paid for.

A lot of life's problems are solved.

Think about it.

He'd be a great pick up Day 3 by the Broncos.

Just to tie on to your last thoughts peen...

Speaking of youth...it's too bad that college doesn't start at 25. If you had everyone graduate from high school and get real jobs for 7 years I think the college experience would be drastically different than it is today (and was for me).

I went to class, studied and did well. But I didn't enjoy it like I would have enjoyed going to class later in life. I partied way to hard and didn't apply myself 100%. Most tests I crammed for and did well enough to get by but did I retain much of what I learned? Not really overall.

Let's say I had some years worth of exposure working then went to college. I'd have really enjoyed the topics I studied and might be a better person for it today.

Just a thought
