Quote: Tressel wasn't fired. Even if he was forced to resign, he wasn't fired.
LOL
It's a really nice way of firing someone.
A normal fired employee wouldn't get the same treatment if that employee was found to have covered up things that eventually tarnished the university.
That high profile of a person in any company would receive a "golden parachute" regardless. Tressel was NOT a normal employee. Nor is the AD or President; while it may seem unfair once you are in that high of a position things work differently when you are asked to leave. I'm sure the choice was put to him as "resign or you will be fired". Who in their right mind wouldn't resign?
Anyhow, I'm over this. The penalties were handed out and it is over. College sports and "amateurism" is a joke anyhow when dealing with basketball and football as there is just way to much money involved. That isn't an excuse, OSU got caught and paid the price, but as a whole it is a joke.
What I would like to see is every top 10 football and basketball team each year gets an in-depth probe for infractions. I'd be willing to bet that you'd have a new top 10 each year if things stay as they are. No big time program is clean. Not when there is so much pressure on winning and the amount of money that is being dealt with.
I think most programs are guilty if you consider selling your merch and maybe getting a perk here or there. What happened at Ohio State happens EVERYWHERE.
I don't see the big deal in it, but rules are rules. If Wetzel and all his Yahoo people looked into every situation the way they did with Ohio State, you'd find something at every major D1 program.
I think they need to change the rules. I've said it many times, I think what Pryor and all those kids did with selling their own merchandise is 100% disrespectful to the program and tradition of OSU, but I think it should be their choice.

So what would stop a program from giving a kid $100,000 in merch and letting him sell it as a way to get the kid to come there? Thats why the rule is in place,to close a loophole for making payments to kids.
" I am going to go to Ohio State over whoever because they give out the best stuff to sell"

Just wanted to throw this into the recruiting section. The high school that I went to and the city I live in has the #2 defensive tackle in the nation, something that is pretty unusual for Monrovia High School. The kid's name is Ellis McCarthy and he is 6'5" and 311 lbs. I think he ended up with 11 sacks even though he missed 4 games due to injury.
Here is a video if him during his junior season (2010):
