I was considering bringing my out of town friend down to Muni Lot to tailgate for the Seattle game. (he's a HUGE Seattle fan) I've never tailgated down there before but I have a few friends who keep asking me to come down and tailgate with them.

So, is Muni Lot really as bad as people say it is?
(I remember someone writing a post getting into a fight over there and people act super crazy.)
Do people really get that crazy?

Thankfully I haven't been there for a couple years to know how it's changed, but look at it this way...people get there EARLY (4-5am) to start drinking. After pounding the brew for seven hours, being filled with nerves and excitement, people aren't exactly, um, kind to others? For that matter, Browns fans are odd. They aren't even kind to other Browns fans at times. (The Sosa/Jules incident comes to mind.)

Personally, I wouldn't take a "friend", especially one that's a fan of the team we happen to be playing, to the Muni Lot. But, he will probably survive the experience. He may even have fun.

Good luck...only you can make the call.

The muni lot's a joke. It's nothing more than party time for the 20 and 30 year old kids.

I stopped tailgating there several years ago - it's just not worth it. Was with a Jets fan that had beer dumped on him and repeatedly shoved while just walking through the lot to the game. He was with 3 Browns fans (myself and 2 of my friends) but that didn't matter. I was done after that.

It is a really cool thing to see - quite a spectacle as there aren't many lots like that in the NFL. The people at DTI are great too. However, the way that opposing teams fans are treated by many in that lot turns physical way too often. It is just a few bad apples that spoil the whole thing; I wish more Browns fans would stand up to this kind of behavior. I have no problem with verbal banter, but when it gets physical it is just not fun.

If you are looking for a place to tailgate before the game you are more than welcome to stop by ours in the yellow lot. We promise we won't beat your fiend up

I have been tailgating in the muni lot for the past two seasons now and we go down there at 5 am to get in line, gates open at 7 to fill the lot so get in line early, if you plan on getting in and set up as early as possible.....about your friend he is gunna get his fair share of gestures from browns fans as would any opposing team fans do. But he wont get it like a ravens, bengels, or steelers fans get it. So as long as your buddy is a good sport about it you guys shouldnt have a problem.

From first-hand experience, that isn't true.

I agree Michelle. It may be worse for divisional fans, but the way that Jets fan I was with was treated was unacceptable in my book. And if you tried to be civil and tell people to knock it off you, as a Browns fan, you would get pulled into the altercation as well. It is a mob mentality, probably of which hardly any of the people who are actually there would act like if loads of alcohol was not involved.

And before anyone says anything or thinks I'm against drinking, I drink my fair share (and probably plenty of other peoples shares) when I tailgate. We drink beer and do many Jager bomb shots and still manage to have a great time and remain civil. We welcome everyone regardless of who they are rooting for or their political views as we all have one thing in common - we are all football/Browns fans!

We tailgated with some Miami fans a few weeks ago. Hadn't ever met them until that day. After the game they said it was one of the most fun game day experiences they had ever had in all of their away game travels. The Browns have unbelievable fans; we love football; we like talking with other fans. I have a feeling that would be a different story had they been in the Muni lot.

If I ever come up to a game again I won't be going to the Muni Lot. We'll crash your spot.

Anyway, I think the ML is something Browns fans should see and experience...but I'm not sure your first time should be with the weekly "enemy".

If one were to go to the ML, why not go and just not wear any enemy gear? To wear the weekly enemy gear is like wearing a kick me sign on your back.

Yeah, you could do that...but that's not really showing support for your team. I don't know...I wouldn't go tailgating in Pittsburgh wearing Browns gear. Then again, I wouldn't go in street clothes either.

I went to Pittsburgh last year and wore my Browns gear. Didn't have any issues at all; got some verbal abuse but nothing more. I was with several of my friends who are life long Steeler fans (having an 8 and 10 year old with us probably kept some of the trouble away) but other than dirty looks, some a-hole chants, and people telling the kids they need to choose their friends beeter everything went well.

Now, if we would have won I probably would have taken my Browns jersey off for the walk back. Losses for the home team are when things turn ugly just about anywhere.

I've been to many cities for games (New Orleans, Nashville, Detroit, Cincy, Baltimore, Indy, NY, and SF) and worn my Browns gear to every one of them. The only two places I may go "incognito" or be with a huge group of Browns fans would be Philly and Oakland.

Well showing up nude will certainly attract attention from a bunch of drunk guys.

The different ends of the Muni lot are polar opposites in my opinion. If you are tailgating on the west side (closest to the stadium), it could get a little touch and go. Down on the east side it is relatively calm. You do have to walk through the whole lot to get to the stadium, however.......

I do agree with that. But instead of saying "walk through" a better phrase might be "run the gauntlet". It gets worse and worse as you head west for sure.

I was at the last Oakland game in Oakland with my wife. Needless to say we did not wear any Browns gear or colors and we were still a little fearful most of the time. We road the BART to the game from SF and back and let me tell you I don't remember ever seeing anything that bad in Cleveland, Detroit or elsewhere. When you get to the game they put you through airport metal detectors. It's surreal.

At the end of the game when Dawson kicked the field goal she stood up and cheered. I was like .... what the hell sit back down!

It ended up that they had called time out right before...the next kick was blocked, game over.

I wouldn't even think of wearing a Browns jersey there.

It seriously felt unsafe incognito.

If the Muni lot is what i think it is...(yea i really know my stuff)...its the lot by the highway that you walk by the parking ramp on the way to the stadium...

That being the case,

I went to a Miami game (the Cleo Lemon started game) with a buddy who is a big Miami fan, and we got there around 830-9ish and actually got pretty far in to the right (west?) there and had no bad times at all. we cooked, drank, hung out with nearby people, they of course gave him the boos for his Marino Jersey, but he took it all with laughter and beer cheersing and things went smooth. We were about 100 feet from this area on the way to the stadium where they were handing out mini-soft-footballs and everyone was throwing them around, it looked like a gnat nest in the air.

We had a blast. Some slight ribbing but nothing violent at all. Didnt see anything bad either. Didnt hear anything thatd make a child or nun blush either...well, maybe a little bit, but nothing thatd offend someone that knows tailgating. I've been given a harder time in buffalo than he was in Cleveland that day.

Ive also gone on my own to the home opener v the Saints a couple years back and traded some beers for cheese filled hot dogs and it was awesome (that day I was in the last little lot the furthest from the stadium next to the highway, but it was a great time again.

I'm 2 for 2 in having a great time in the muni lot...

I'm also perfect in having a good time being in the lots by the water. And every game I've gone to, I've been with opposing fans. MNF v. Giants, 3 games v. Dolphins...and with my parents at a Cincy and Baltimore game, and they like Miami.

I've never had any issues in the Muni Lot and I have been to every game but 2 since 2004. I've tailgating in the Muni Lot every time. We do go in the 2nd lot from the stadium though.

There are idiots everywhere. Might as well not go to any bars because some drunk may start a fight there...

Really, this is your argument? Pretty sad to defend the a-holes that cause trouble there, BradAzz.

As a Browns fan you likely never would. Every time I've been with opposing teams fans, who were minding their own business every time, I've run into problems that made them and myself feel uncomfortable due to the physicality of the encounters. Again, yell and scream all you want - curse at them, I don't care - but when it gets physical that is just too far.

I stay away from bars where I know a higher likelihood of a fight will occur, which is why I stay away from Muni now. I'm sure there are idiots where we tailgate too, though it is parking pass only - no game day cash payments so that keeps a lot of people out.

I really do wish I didn't feel this way because the spectacle of the lot is amazing; I love driving by it on route 2 on my way in, especially with people who have never seen it - it really is an amazing sight.

If you pay cash they make you park to the right closer to the William G Mather Maritime museum ship. If you have the yellow lot pass you park where we tailgate. Of course if you are sneaky and they don't watch you can do either.

Ah. Got it. Thanks. I know last year they made us move after we parked. Had to move something like - maybe 25 yds? We'll be there for the Seattle game. Hope to see you then.

I'll be there. If you do pay cash and park to the right, no biggie pick up your cooler and carry it around the corner. Look forward to seeing you seahacks game.

If Municipal lot is where I think it is, when leaving on RTA train from just south of the stadium ( not my choice) we snaked around it in the train car west of the stadium leaving after a game had ended.

Now to say, if there had been 15, or 16 folks urinating on the fence during the 30 seconds around that lot would have been one thing, but there were at least 30, at least 30, (no not in one spot, just around various)

I think, that probably doesn't happen at every stadium, Now I know it was leaving the stadium but geesh, that means probably 200-300 people peed on the fences in the 10 minutes or more it would take to empty the entire stadium. Not really a proud moment but what ya gonna do.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

The muni lot is east of the stadium.
