Study Link Governor Rick Perry (R-Texas) has pointed to job growth in Texas during the current economic downturn as one of his main accomplishments. But analysis of Current Population Survey (CPS) data collected by the Census Bureau show that immigrants (legal and illegal) have been the primary beneficiaries of this growth since 2007, not native-born workers. This is true even though the native-born accounted for the vast majority of growth in the working-age population (age 16 to 65) in Texas. Thus, they should have received the lion’s share of the increase in employment. As a result, the share of working-age natives in Texas holding a job has declined in a manner very similar to the nation a whole. Among the findings: Of jobs created in Texas since 2007, 81 percent were taken by newly arrived immigrant workers (legal and illegal). In terms of numbers, between the second quarter of 2007, right before the recession began, and the second quarter of 2011, total employment in Texas increased by 279,000. Of this, 225,000 jobs went to immigrants (legal and illegal) who arrived in the United States in 2007 or later. Of newly arrived immigrants who took a job in Texas, 93 percent were not U.S. citizens. Thus government data show that more than three-fourths of net job growth in Texas were taken by newly arrived non-citizens (legal and illegal). The large share of job growth that went to immigrants is surprising because the native-born accounted for 69 percent of the growth in Texas’ working-age population (16 to 65). Thus, even though natives made up most of the growth in potential workers, most of the job growth went to immigrants. The share of working-age natives holding a job in Texas declined significantly, from 71 percent in 2007 to 67 percent in 2011. This decline is very similar to the decline for natives in the United States as a whole and is an indication that the situation for native-born workers in Texas is very similar to the overall situation in the country despite the state’s job growth. Of newly arrived immigrants who took jobs in Texas since 2007, we estimate that 50 percent (113,000) were illegal immigrants. Thus, about 40 percent of all the job growth in Texas since 2007 went to newly arrived illegal immigrants and 40 percent went to newly arrived legal immigrants. Immigrants took jobs across the educational distribution. More than one out three (97,000) of newly arrived immigrants who took a job had at least some college. These numbers raise the question of whether it makes sense to continue the current high level of legal immigration and also whether to continue to tolerate illegal immigration.

We absolutely should not allow illegal immigration.
Perry is dead wrong on this issue.
I have no problem with legal immigration, This country was built on legal immigrations, with immigrants chasing the American Dream, and searching for a better life. In turn, they became part of the tapestry of the country, and part of the Great Melting Pot.
However, illegals should be tossed out on their asses. They should get no benefit, no jobs, no medical coverage, no food stamps, no money, and in short, nothing but a one way trip over the border and out of the country.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

Some might agree with that statement.

I agree with Ytown as well.. "You have no heart" was a jab at Rick Perry who said about those who didn't agree with him that illegal immigrants should receive in-state tuition in Texas.

First, Perry is going down in flames as the public finds out more about him. Also, it does not look like folks in the North are ready for another Texan as their President...Perry is toast!
I know for a fact that Texas business loves to hire their cheap labor even if they know the workers are illegal. Construction companies are especially guilty of the practice but many businesses in Texas are guilty of hiring illegal labor.
IMO, it is just another form of slave labor, to hire workers you know are illegals, but of coarse, if caught, the business pretends it had no idea. It seems that Texas law enforcement at all levels, just looks the other way.

It seems like that is the opinion of almost all law enforcement, including federal. Of course they just rounded up 2500 illegals but they only went after the ones that have committed other crimes... until we accept that they are all criminals, we aren't going to solve the problem.
As for Perry, he never excited me much, nor does Romney. I'm slowing finding myself liking Herman Cain more and more...

That's not possible mac, some on here have told us time and time again that illegals only do the jobs Americans don't want.

and we have people who want us to hand them over our tax dollars as well. In California, there is a bill sitting on Jerry Brown's desk that if he signs, illegal immigrants will receive tax payer money in the form of education grants and loans. I wonder where they are going to work afterwards if they cannot legally work in the US..

That's so they can move into jobs that Americans WILL do and leave vacancies in the jobs Americans WON'T do so that more can come over and do those.
