I guess I was hoping that the older DDR2 would be discounted more since it appears that much if what is available new is DDR3 for the 775 socket and, of course, Intel's "i" series.
I'll check out Gigabyte. I don't overclock since I use stock cooling. While I understand that processors are rated conservatively, my needs are within the reported specs.
Warranty and price are what is going to decide my purchase. I fear that the now dead EVGA board was a problem since at or near the beginning of this now 3.5 year old build. This is the same computer that I have reported and seeked advice for here for because of a significant number of stop errors and POST / BIOS problems. A number of folks here at DawgTalkers aptly advised my to tear it down and isolate the problem, but I didn't do that until recently. The warranty ran out 6 months ago and I was hoping that a call to EVGA would get me a good faith replacement, but that was to no avail (like I said, I "hoped", but didn't expect).
Oh well, $50 more and it should be back up and running.
