It was a good day, aside from having to work. At about 12:00N, the doorbell rang. I answered the door, and it was my sister! Drove the 1.5 hours to surprise me- and take me out to lunch. We've been so busy, we hadn't seen each other since the NYC weekend, so this was a really pleasant surprise. We got to hang out for a few hours, catching up, and LOAO together, as we always do. Great gift.
BUT... and here's a really cool thing....
About an hour before Sis arrived, I got a phone call from a good bud (no- a dear friend) who plays in The Band .
We've sat next to each other for years, and have struck up a fine and satisfying relationship over that time. He's registered here at DT as betsie k9 (...named himself after the Betsie River in Mich- he's an avid fly fisherman). Lurks here from time to time, but hasn't posted. A converted Lions fan, he decided to get on board with the Browns when we made The Return. I guess after hearing me go on about the history, Daddy Paul, and seeing how devastated the local Dawgs were at The Defection, he felt compelled to join up. Wanted to be there from Day One of The Startup.
So... he says: "I'm running some errands before teach lessons, and I got a birthday card for you. Mind if I drop by, and give it to you?" Oh course, I always have time for my homie, so I told him to drop by. I'm mowing the lawn when he rolls up. We talk for a bit, and he hands me the envelope. I open the card, read the front.... and when I opened it to read the rest, and...
There sits a ticket for the Browns/Seahawks game on 10/23!!! I almost fell over right there in the front yard! Instead, I gave him a huge hug, and thanked him from the bottom of the bottomless well that is my heart.
You see- we MusicDawgs don't have a ton of skrilla to toss around... and that's why I haven't seen a game at CBS since The Return. Matter of fact, the last time I saw the Brownies in person was in the early-mid 70's... at the shoe in Columbus! It was a benefit preseason game between the Browns and the Bengals. Before that, my only other gameday experience was at Muni, when I was just a kid. Jim Brown ran for 100+ yards, and Gary Collins hauled in a late, game-winning TD pass against the hated Pittsburgh Steelers. That game was in 1965.
So, Dawgs- this birthday was HUGE. It combined my 4 favorite things, all in a slim 12-hour window:
1.Family
2.Good Friends.
3. Music-making
4. the Cleveland Browns.
10/23, I'll be there with My Aceboon Homedawg (So long as The Good Lord's willing...): Dawg Pound, nosebleed section. I'll need directions to DTI, so I can at least stop by, and put faces to all these insane posts I've been reading for years...
Yup- in all, a GREAT birthday.
