Not as bad as Ike (9/20/08) for the whole town, per se, but individual sections were damaged heavily. Chesterland's Giant Eagle clocktower was damaged as well.
We are lucky nobody was hurt. EF1 means 95mph sustained sped winds. 50-75 yd width and 3-5 mile length.
Not Newton Falls '85, but still scary. Other than this storm, Ike 2008--the only other one to approach the level of damage was 7/28/93 microburst--that one came after a 96 deg. day...up Wilson Mills and zigzagged southeast.
Giant Eagle's PR rep didn't have much to say on the situation--it's Giant Eagle, of course. High prices and Pittsburgh allegiance

Giant Eagle spokesperson Paula DePasquale issued the following statement Thursday morning:
"During the early morning hours, it is believed a small tornado damaged our Chesterland Giant Eagle location. The store was not open to customers at the time, but was staffed by five Team Members. All Team Members are safe and there are no reported injuries. The store sustained some structural damage to a wall and some other areas of the store, and lost electrical power. Giant Eagle is working with structural engineers to ensure the integrity of the building before reentering to begin the process of returning power, ensuring food safety and readying the store for reopening."
