Sacrifice.
Commitment.
Loyalty.

Navy Seal, Jon Tumilson is guarded one last time by his companion and loved one, Hawkeye.

Tumilson’s funeral was on Friday in Rockford, Iowa at Rockford Senior High. Hawkeye was one of the 1,500 souls who attended. As you can see by the gut-wrenching photo on the right, Hawkeye refused to leave his master’s side during the service.

Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson had a very close friend in his life – his dog, Hawkeye. Tumilson, a former San Diego resident, was killed August 6 in the Chinook helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of 29 other American servicemembers.

The picture was taken by Lisa Pembleton, Tumilson’s cousin. Pembleton contacted Home Post with this message:

Hawkeye is/was his loyal “son”. To say that he was an amazing man doesn’t do him justice. The loss of Jon to his family, military family and friends is immeasurable. I hadn’t planned on taking any pictures other than with family. However, from my seat at the funeral, I felt compelled to take one photo to share with family members that couldn’t make it or couldn’t see what I could from the aisile. This is that photo…

Pembleton also informed Home Post that a memorial fund has been set up in Tumilson’s memory:

First Security Bank and Trust
201 West Main Ave.
Rockford, IA 50468
Frogman 238 Memorial Fund

My Fellow Dawgs: as divided as we may seem in day-to-day converstion regarding politics, ideology, and The State Of The Nation, I think we can all agree on this much: The strength of Our Country lies in the strength of its individual citizens.

Despite what "governmental types" hold office, or seek to gain sway over the day-to-day policy that charts our immediate course, one thing above all remains true: The strenght of America's future lies within the fortitude of its citizens.

Here's your proof.... all politics aside.

This young man fought and died for all of us... and his beloved companion stood watch, as we paid our respects to his sacrifice. Such is the nature of who we are as a country.

I long for that day when Our Youngest, Our Brightest, Our Best are able to devote their efforts toward something other than the "same old thing" that has defined Mankind since time immemorial.

God embrace Jon Tumilson. May He give Hawkeye a sense of peace... and may He grant The Human Race the wisdom to move on from this phase of Our Evolution.

Just wanting more for/from us,
Clemdawg

Clem, my dear Dawg, you have once again provided us with a very poignant story. This is what life is all about. Unconditional love and respect of fellow residents of this beautiful world.

May God bless and watch over those that are serving our Country.

A story that puts things into perspective, and as usual, great commentary by you on the story.

The picture touches my heart and breaks my heart.
I try to imagine the loss the family and friends feel.
All I can do is pray for our fallen as well as those who continue to serve.
All I can offer to the families are my thoughts and prayers.
Petty Officer Jon Tumilson was one of the 30 Americans who died that day.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of them.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all who serve.
Giving my thoughts and prayers seems like so little, so inadequate, especially when looking at the picture above.
