Steelers' Hines Ward charged DECATUR, Ga. -- Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Hines Ward has been arrested in Georgia on a drunk driving charge. The DeKalb County sheriff's office says the former Super Bowl MVP and "Dancing With the Stars" champ was arrested early Saturday. He was booked into the DeKalb County jail in suburban Atlanta at 3:41 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence. He was released on $1,300 bond. The sheriff's office said it had turned over paperwork to the courts and couldn't release any further information about the player's arrest. A Steelers spokesman did not immediately respond to a message, and it was not immediately clear if Ward had an attorney. The 35-year-old Ward played football at the University of Georgia. web page

Why do these guys who make millions feel the need to drive themselves anywhere anytime they have had anything at all to drink?
Man ... hire a limo, or take a cab ..... they can easily afford it a thousand times over.

The laws of the country and the climate for alcohol make it very likely that anybody who drinks will put themselves at risk for DUI at some point in time. I think Whines Hard is a total douche bag, but the fact that our society encourages drinking and driving and the fact that he got caught hardly makes him dumb. That being said, I cant wait til the other shoe drops on the field somebody cheap shots him.

Yeah ... it does make him dumb. I've had many a night where friends of mine and I were going out drinking. We made sure we had someone who was staying sober to drive. Some nights we went together and hired a limo. (always a nice touch to roll up to a club in a limo anyway) If I go out to have a few drinks, I limit myself to 2 or 3, depending on how long I will be at the bar. I refuse to have any more than that, because the potential penalty just isn't worth it to me. I can have those couple of drinks over a 3 hour period and stay under the limit. I just won't drive if I've had any more than that.

I can't see a time in the foreseeable future when I would ever want to spend the night in a jail and I certainly value my money more than to want to risk tossing 5 to 10K at this type of foolishness.
When we go out to dinner, I drink iced tea. I'll have a drink if we go to a show or play as I know I'll be a captive audience member for sometime after I've had that drink. Otherwise, if I want to have a drink, I stay home.
The risk is never going to be worth the reward and yes drinking and driving does immediately move you into the moron category.

My point was the very same behavior you describe yourself as engaging in is the same that can get you a DUI. You are just playing roulette, like many of us do.
People tend to forget that these athletes are just normal people and that maybe they dont want to have to go through the trouble of driver every time they want to have a drink.....they want to be able to do what they want, when they want. In that regard they are no different than you or I.
I am not on Whine's side here....just pointing out that this could happen to many people.

Perhaps Steeler players should just start avoiding Georgia altogether? They don't seem to have the best of luck down there.

Personally, I think the whole team should vacation there. It would be interesting to see the whole starting team suspended for 4 - 6 games ... then the team being penalized for not meeting the salary floor ..........

I heard it was a weird arrest. At first he passed all of the field sobriety tests and they were about to let him go. After that a whistle blew and then he immediately pushed someone over after it had blown ...
Onlookers called him "tough" though...

Lots of variables . Time between drinks. Time from last drink till you drive , how much do you weigh , what were you drinking beer, shots, wine ? Wonder how many times pull people over and get " a couple" in response to the question of how much that person has had to drink ?

I had 2 drinks officer. Sure they there straight up Jack Daniels in a 32oz Thirstbuster cup, but I swear I only had 2.

OK, 3 single shot (vodka) drinks. Typically 30-45 minutes apart, and I usually have nothing with alcohol in it in the last hour before I leave the bar.
