Hey guys my younger brother finishes up his first round of basic training for the reserves in august down at Fort Jackson. My wife and I were trying to decide where to stay whether we should just stay around Columbia or maybe Myrtle Beach. My wife wants to stay near the ocean so thats why I thought Myrtle Beach unless there is somewhere else to stay thats nice? Were going down on a thursday and prob head home sunday maybe monday. So it wont be to long of a trip and one day of it spent with my brother for his graduation. Thanks guys.

Myrtle Beach is over 3 hours from Ft. Jackson and Charleston is just over 2 (an hour closer) and its a straight shot very easy drive.

If it was just me and my wife I'd go to Charleston every time. Great beaches that aren't nearly as packed with teeny boppers, an amazing night life of bars that aren't packed with underage kids, awesome golf, great restaurants that aren't all chains like the ones in Myrtle Beach, and more southern charm that you can imagine......Stay in Charleston..

Do you have something against teeny boppers in bikinis? LOL

I mean .... as long as they're 18-19 ........

I love Myrtle Beach, my family has a great time there every year... and the dudes married so I doubt he's going to hook up but the beaches, attractions and bars are loaded with high school seniors, who are mostly not 18 and a bunch of kids.. like I said, for my family I go to Myrtle but for an adult weekend with my wife I would go to Charleston..

You get down around the College of Charleston there is a lot of good night life and a lot of good teeny boppers on the right side of 18... Charleston has its own French Quarter, I'm not sure what you could find on short notice but if you want to stay right on the beach, Folly Beach is the way to go. (However Folly is southeast of Charleston and would add time to your drive back to Columbia).

We really arnt to worried about the drive time, as it will only be the one day from what my brother is saying then he has to get back up to P.A because he starts his senior year of High School like 5 days after he is done with basic/boot camp.
