5 of 6 divisional games in the last 6 weeks really helps the Browns chances to be honest. New O and New D will have a chance to come together before murderers row.

Brutal 2nd half schedule especially with 3 of last 4 on the road including 2 w/ Pitt, traveling cross country to Arizona and at Baltimore....this must be the we don't want the Browns to make a push in the 2nd half schedule.

we got a couple 4 o'clock games....
then a thursday night game in december against the Steelers..
week 5 is the bye week
When I said 4:00 game, I meant at home.....I like hitting the tailgate lot at 7 no matter what....4 gives more time for the party to develop.....when on the road and i go to the bar to watch....I like 1 PM games...
Love the 4pm home games for that reason. Don't have to rush the tailgating or get there too super early. Get there by 9, and have a full 6 hours+ of fun.

This schedule sure makes it look like they're expecting a strike shortened season....putting all of the divisional games at the end.

Week 5 bye week
I agree....why they can't get all the byes done in week 7 and 8 is beyond me....or even 6-7-8-9
I was thinking that myself. I'm thinking no more that 3 weeks of byes are needed. Weeks 7-8-9.

I'm not crazy about the "go to California, go home, go to California" trio of games following the bye, but at least this year's schedule has more games that look winnable than not.

I think they started doing that last year in order to keep teams from benching starters late in the season.

This schedule is such bull!
Nearly all the division games right at the end. It seems to me like they purposely set it up that way. There is no way they just chose them out of a hat and got those results.

Last year the NFL stated that they were going to put divisional games at the end so teams wouldn't bench starters.
There is no conspiracy, look at every teams schedule. Same with last year.

Yeah, but Thursday games are always hard. At least we're not all Sunday 1 PM games this year.

I'm not saying it doesn't stink. Just that the NFL said they were going to backload the division games.

They said they would have more divisional games played at the end of the season. They didn't say they were going to have every (damn near) divisional game at the end of the season.

Of course they set it up that way. They never just draw names out of a hat.
The league went this route last year....playing a division heavy schedule late in the season.
The reasoning was to help teams draw interest late in the season.
A good move IMO....as teams start to fall behind, fewer people want to buy tickets. Stick more attractive match-ups late, people buy them up early.
Sort of like that news teaser they hold for the last segment....to keep you watching the whole program.

I thnk a better argument is that these games become what I call "elimination" contests at math crunch time.
I have no problem with it.
You're either good enough to survive or not.
Ed: PLUS, you can bet Steeler and Raven fans ain't running around saying "Dang, we gotta play the Browns twice in a four week span."

Seems to me that the NFL would have scheduled the Ravens and Steelers to play twice in the last month, and not the Steelers and Browns... I don't know.. just my logic I guess.

I havent seen any predictions yet, this seems odd. Where's all the optimism that we're going 12-4?

I would be more optimistic if our coaches had some contact with our players, and not to mention we are not sure when they can even practice...

What I think is funny is that many people, once again, feel we're going to have an "easy" part of the schedule and a "hard" part of the schedule.
I mean, we all expected a cake walk last year over crappy teams like TB and KC and to get destroyed by great teams like NE and NO.
I'm not going to get too excited now, anyway, until we know there will definitely be a season. Then, once we know that there will be a season, I'll temper my excitement as much as I can (though I know I'll be fired up by August).
JMHO
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

I haven't thought it through, yet... just trying to gauge interest.
I'd be interested, never been to a browns game. My folks had planned to take us when i was little but then the browns had to move on us, and i haven't lived in Cleveland since '00

I will never understand the bye week formula. Why start the byes week 5, have no byes on week 10, then have the final byes on week 11, with six games to go? Why not start byes week 6 and include byes week 10? This completely penalizes the early bye week teams by making them play 11 or 12 weeks in a row without a break, so they are guaran-damn-teed to be banged up by the end of the season, when the important divisional games are happening. We get a week five bye, (and so do the Rats,) while pit gets a week 11 bye, followed by a soft six week schedule allowing then to finish the season strong as they make their playoff run. We have five division games in the last six weeks and three road games in a row, while pit only has three division games in the same time period, two of those games being us. Something really stinks here. Stinks bad. Like a pile of rotting turds.

If we were better (or projected to be better) then our schedule would look easier and the Steelers would look harder. It's not the Steelers fault that we are largely thought of as a scrimmage.
We just need to win games early, just the like the Tribe, get off to a fast start for once and make hay early in the year.. then when we get to the end, we'll see what happens.
I agree that the schedule seems stupid but what can you do, we have to play 16 games just like everybody else.

3 road games in a row in weeks 14, 15 & 16? Five divisional games in the final six weeks? Bye week 5 for us, bye week 11 for them? C'mon... there's nothing remotely fair, even, or luck of the draw here. We got boned hard, and the pit have a cake walk to finish the season. No way will you convince me this wasn't intentional.

that's one way to look at it. here's another way:
the NFL realizes that the Browns have struggled and are doing its best to ensure that the fans have reason for optimism for as long as possible.
week5 bye means more time to rest the early injuries. all Balt/Pitt games late means we don't have those tough games early a bunch of late away games means more early home games
the schedule is all setup for us to come out raring out of the gate (and to fade in the finish, but we'll worry about that when the time comes)

Exactly. There are 2 to 4 teams in the nfl that are, year in year out, good. Tough to play them. Then there are 8 to 10 teams that are decent year in, year out. Say that's 14 teams. That leaves 18 teams that are questionable every year - some years up, some years down.
Aside from those top - say, 4 teams - every year and every team is basically a crap shoot.
There is NO easy game. Ask the saints - losing to the Browns last year. The year before, ask the giants - superbowl winners about playing the Browns.
There is no "easy" game for anyone.

I think there are easier and harder parts to a schedule, and the opponents, while a factor, aren't the main reason. At least in my opinion.
To me it has more to do with prep time, travel time, number of weeks you travel in a row, who you come back to play, and how your opponents schedule fell the week or two before you play them.
As for the bye.....week 5 might not be bad this year though it will probably catch up with us later in the season.
If we in fact lose some camp time, the staff is going to be working the team pretty hard those first few weeks to install the plan. A early breather might be perfect. And with that a early bye allows the staff to make some early changes if necessary.
As usual, I key in on one key game, and right now, as usual, it is the opener. I see that as the key to the season.
It is against a division rival, and it proceeds a tough win in Indy.
If we start the season 0-2....stick a fork in it....we're dead.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

j/c Did anyone else get the email from the Browns ticket sales with the schedule in it? I loved how they misspelled Pittsburgh for the Thursday night game. http://prod.static.browns.clubs.nfl.com/assets/docs/pdf/2011-Season-Schedule.pdf

If we're anywhere close to making the playoffs, With a new coach, a new defense, NO offense to speak of in the last 2 years, two juggarnauts and a team that doesn't respect you in the division... not to mention 6 teams with better cohesion, and a more advantageous schedule in the conference... being Houston, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Oakland, Ny Jets, and Tennessee... leavng out perenial division winners, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, San Diego, Indianapolis , and New England .
we'll have our own destiny in our hands. Just like anytime in the last 7 years Beat the division rivals and we'd make the playoffs.
Biggest laugh! what is the Browns record vs these " division rivals" over the last Dozen years ? Its Bad,
The Browns will probably have 7 losses when they start their run at those 5 division games and if they lose at Cincinnati (50/50) there is a possibility they have 8 losses and are mathmatically eliminated from any playoff contention ...
For all 4 of the Baltimore and Pittsburgh games in 2011
so it pretty much doesn't leave expectations up for anybody
It would be hard to come up with a worse schedule for the Browns if you had to! Even if you could put all 8 road games at the end. did you know that 2 of the easiest games ( the seattle home game, and the road san francisco game ) the opponent will be coming off their bye week .
We can be optimistic all we like, but it is pretty clear, Somebody in the NFL doesn't want the Browns to win a single game.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
