Been diagnosed with Adult A.D.D. Very concerned about taking the medication they are recommending. Do you believe it's safe?

Do you believe ADHD medication is safe?

Look, I know you like to ask questions and ask advice about everything in your life short of what toilet paper to use , but I hope you will make no decision on something like this based on what the goofballs on this message board say.

No kidding!

All medications have risks and the potential for side effects and adverse reactions. Look at the company literature and the PDR entry then make an informed decision based on risk vs. benefit. If you want message board feedback, there are quite a few ADD forums where you can discuss this with people who actually take the medication.

I can assure you I only asked this to see what you guys think. I wouldn't take anything I'm not comfortable with. I do, however, prefer Charmin.

I would think so......20 millions college student can't be wrong. LOL.

I know they are pretty much like amphetamines. College kids use them to study with and kids with prescriptions make lots of money come exam time.

I remember my buddy had a bunch cuz he had a prescription but didn't like to take them---so he gave them all to me. I would take 5 or ten and wouldn't sleep for a couple days. I even had a roommate who had a prescription for some ultra potent ritalin---and it jacked his sleep cycles all up. He would be up for days straight doing work--then he would crash.

I am pretty sure they will make you feel kinda weird and you will have to get used to them--and they definitely have the potential to cause some sleep cycle disturbances. And this is assuming you take them as prescribed. That's how my roommate would take them and he was a walking zombie sometimes from going so long without sleeping. The dude was vehemently anti-drug yet walked around like a junkie all strung out on Addies all the time. Adderal. The fuel that college kids run on, adderal and alcohol....

If I were you I would just try to get on without them.

on a side note--I used to hate it when kids used these to study for exams b/c it seemed like it was a kind of performance enhancer that screwed the curves all up in a lot of classes. This kind of thing is taboo to talk about on college campuses---but a fairly high number of students use these drugs to study with. And they do help you focus on your work and do better on tests.

After being in college for 8 years and still not finished (along with several other issues in my life revolving around this), I think it's time to explore medication.

I believe these types of meds are way over prescribed.. do they have a place? I suppose. Are they right for you? Possible... I would just exhaust every available option and then some before I did it.

No kiddin! Who the heck takes medication advise from people on a football message board.... go talk to a couple doctors and look into other people with ADHD who take the meds... you can always start on the lowest possible dose to see if that helps your ADHD as well... but discuss these things with your doctor (or a couple doctors)

I'm not a doctor and I WON'T play one in this thread. Go talk to more doctors for their educated advice.

If you were to twist my arm...I'd say you don't need it to finish school or solve other problems in your life. Come on, if Charlie Sheen can cure his brain by himself, we all can too.

I was getting a general opinion of what everyday people thought about these meds. I could care less what the consensus here is, I'm going to do what my Dr says. I have talked with 3 doctors already. Me being effected by this has caused me to take an interest in the medication debate. In the future, I will refrain from starting personal threads.

Don't worry about it,, some people get a bug up thier butts.. Clearly at least two posters on this thread think it's NOT OK for you to ask a question.

Ask whatever you want.

This one is out of bounds, dude. No way this should be here or you should even pretend to listen. Stay away from the drug, well, you know what you have. With it, many different things happen. If you choose to do it, not because of this board. Go talk to users, doctors, friends, family, but not this. Crikey.

Quit taking everything so seriously....and if you are going to ask a multitude of personal questions on a message board, people are allowed to comment on the wisdom of that.

Look who you have defending you on this thread, that alone should make you think twice.

I don't mind the comments. I do find it humerous that the people in this thread actually think I base decisions strictly off what people on this board say. I have ADHD, I'm not brain dead.

I consult with many, many, many people when I have questions. This board is one of several places I get input from people.

With that being said, I will stick to Browns football here from now on. No hard feelings.

Ha! I haven't said a word in a very long time in his advice on his personal life threads. This one just got me. He is free to do anything he likes, but if he does want a piece of advice, I'll offer one. Search yourself and talk to those close to you to find answers to this kind of problem instead of asking "many, many, many" people their advice on important personal matters.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. I do think you are mis-understanding the context of the poll, however. I simply asked if people on this board thought the meds were safe. I never asked for advice on whether or not I should take them.

And here I was going to ask about birth control ...... the death penalty ..... and using illegal drugs as a form of pain management .......

Guess I won't do that now.

Advice- noun- an opinion or recommendation offered as a guide to action, conduct, etc.: I shall act on your advice.

Can you please tell me where I asked for advice?

Couldn't let it go, could ya?

Look, you must care about what people here have to say or you wouldn't start these kinds of threads.

If you really don't care what people have to say about your questions and don't plan on taking into consideration what they say about your situation, then that would be trolling.

Really? How many threads in K-9 are asking questions about personal situations and whether taking medications for a diagnosis is a good idea?

Like I said, you are free to do what you want. You start a lot of these kinds of threads. You can't pick and choose what comments we get to make about them.

At this point, I couldn't care less. Carry on!

Cut the guy some slack. Why is it a problem for him to listen to others experiences? Listening to others knowledge and experiences is a big part in how you learn.

Careful, if you come to his defense, you might get labeled... god forbid you have a different opinion than some others on this board..
