A number of programs treat Sam Rutigliano as this coaching genius that coached in Cleveland, yet the guy never won a thing. Didn't win much of anything really.

WIKI LINK

While coaching here, he was below .500 and 0-2 in the playoffs.

No other NFL team wanted him anywhere near their organization after the Browns fired him.

Never worked for another NFL team.

Went on to coach at some no name college.

So what I am missing? He's just a cute old guy that happens to be available for any and all work?

He appears on DSN and I've noticed he just loves playing Monday morning QB. Now that Mangini is gone, he talks about how bad he is. He now loves Shurmur. He loves Colt for now as well.

If you ever met the man face to face....you would know why.

I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

What's the use of wearing your lucky rocketship underpants if nobody wants to see them????

So basically coaching record means nothing, just as long as he's a cute old guy. That's what I thought.

You can be a loser, just as long as you are a cute old loser.

I'm not sure who is treating him like a coaching genius, you would have to show me that.. but it's easy to see why he's liked.

He's about as good a guy as you are ever going to meet, he has the longest tenure of any Browns coach since Collier (6 1/2 years), he has had as much success as any other Browns coach since Collier except Marty, he coached the Kardiac Kids, while they didn't win much, was an extremely exciting time in Browns history.... and I hate to say this but since the '60s, the bar of what it takes to stand out in Cleveland Browns football has been set EXTREMELY LOW...

Is he a football genius? Doubtful... Do I understand why Browns fans think very highly of him? Absolutely.
