Brown Signs With Browns
Garrett Cullen
MetroNews Sports

Former Mountaineer quarterback Jarrett Brown has found a new home in the NFL, according to his twitter account. Brown says he's signed a contract with Cleveland.

You can see the post for yourself by clicking here.

Good to see him get picked up by someone after not getting drafted last year and a brief stint with the 49ers.

Colt McCoy led Cleveland this past year statistically, playing in eight games. He finished the year with 1,576 yards passing and 6 touchdowns. Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace also saw playing time at quarterback this past season for the Browns.

Regardless, it's a team Brown could potentially find some playing time on or at least compete for a backup role.

I like Brown, kinda wanted to draft him last year to be a developmental sort of a guy.

Good signing, even if he is just for minicamp/training camp.

you had a good run Hank.

not much to discuss. he'll likely be a guy to throw passes around in mini-camps so we don't overwork our other guys. if he ends up being a diamond in the rough, great.

I can accept him as a 3rd string guy.. possibly do what Seneca can do in the Wildcat if Wallace leaves us (I think Wallace is a free agent).

Yes, the browns wildcat was a feared part of our offense.....
The wildcat got so much press and discussion, but it was far from anything 'wild'.
I think we keep Seneca, let Jake go, and draft a late round QB.

Going out on a limb here. Brown went to west VA. - where they run the zone read offense. I feel that this tells us that our new hc has been chosen, and whomever he is, he wants to incorporate some zone read plays.

Insurance...also, might negate the standard operating procedure of Holmgren to draft a QB.

Brown was good QB in college, who has talent but needs someone to mentor him.

I think you are reaching. I think this is nothing more than a look. Chances are pretty good that he won't even be on the roster after the draft.

Brown is nowhere near as dynamic as Cribbs is/was.

For that matter, he may end up being our #1....at this point it isn't like we have a sure fire pro-bowl QB on the roster......but....more than likely he will fill one of the back-up roles if he makes the team.

Sounds like the team really doesn't expect Seneca to be eager to sign, so get the process started now rather than wait until March.

Well, if Seneca doesn't sign, i am in favor of bringing back Jake. He is a good mentor to a young, developing QB.

Jake is signed for another year....maybe two.

I don't think we are in a position where we can cut him unless we go with Colt and a couple of rooks( more or less rooks)

Jake is signed through next year......don't know about Wallace. In a perfect world we keep Colt, Wallace, and draft/sign a kid like Brown who could develop. If Wallace does walk though then yeah Jake is a decent insurance policy as a backup/mentor.

Over the hill or injured? Big difference.

I agree Willie.

I just think with all said over the last few months, Wallace isn't going to sign.

He's young enough he is still searching for the chance to guide his own team.

Wallace is a free agent at the end of this league year.

Well then I think that he is more than likely gone. I would love to keep him as a wildcat QB (you know and actually use the wildcat), but I don't think he'll resign anymore than the rest of you do.

In my opinion, and again, I realized I'm on a long limb here, this hints at John Gruden.

Here are some quotes and links that lead me to this uncertain conclusion:

From the following link: http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindducksbeat/2009/12/rose_bowl_jon_gruden_the_almos.html
"When I got fired from football, I wanted to learn about football, and it started with Oregon,'' Gruden said. "I wanted to learn the spread option, and Chip Kelly was nice enough to come down (to Florida) and spend a week with me.''

"There's some truth to that,'' Gruden said. "When I got fired, I opened up an office. I called it the FFCA, the fired football coaches of America, and I was really excited about learning some things I didn't know anything about, and one of them was the spread offense. I started with Oregon because I have a lot of respect for what they've done.''
