My roommate cracked one of his big teeth in half and we cant get him to the dentist until tomorrow. It seems like a pretty clean break, no blood, he said his teeth arent loose, but its a little sensitive to cold. I havent chipped a tooth in like 10 years so I dont know if they will just bond it on and how strong it is going to be. Hes a broadcast Meteorology student and hes worried its going to be noticeable or that they wont be able to fix it well enough. Anyone have any input on the seriousness of this, or can he relax tonight?

Not a dentist~But I have a cracked tooth (#2 molar). The whole tooth is still there, it's just cracked. My dentist is putting a crown on it next week (no urgency in my case). From all that I understand, crowns are unnoticeable and a lot of people have them (this will be my first, and hopefully only)

I chipped out both of my front teeth when I was 10 years old. Here's what I know...

Look and see if the root is exposed (mine was, but I got into a dentist that night). If the root is exposed, and you can't get into a dentist till tomorrow, he is going to need a root canal. A pretty painful operation, but won't do any cosmetic harm. Then, they can put a bonding on his teeth. Whenever I first tell my friends that I have two fake front teeth, they don't believe me. Tell your friend not to worry about any cosmetic damage, no one will be able to tell.

Hope this helps him relax a little tonight.

Not a dentist nor do I play one on TV but I know they've come a long way with bonding and veneers. My sister cracked one of her front teeth a couple of weeks ago and it's not noticeable at all.

I'm not a dentist but until around last November I was a patient at CWRU School of Dentistry every week for over a year.

I think first they will take a xray to check on root and bone loss. I don't know the age of the guy. Sounds like a crown to me. No biggie.

There is always inplants like our friend Ben Rottenburger. Dental has come a long way in the last 40 years..

I'm not a dentist but I am a Lab Tech in a dentist office. I also have a fake front tooth.

I chipped mine fairly high up and had to have a root canal. I don't have a cap on it, I had mine fixed with composite molded to a screw that was put up into my jaw bone. Part of my original tooth is still there and it makes my tooth seem a little bit darker because the tooth is dead from the root being removed. It's not very noticable though.

I am going to get a cap on it eventually but I want to quit smoking a have my teeth whitened before I have a cap put on it. Plus it isn't hurting anything the way it is right now so it doesn't really bother me.

Thanks everyone, my friend can sleep easy tonight. I always say I visit this place for more than to just talk Browns. Fastest way to get info. Maybe next time he will think before making fun of me for being on here.
