Thomas named to Pro Bowl By Matt Florjancic, ClevelandBrowns.com Staff Writer Left tackle Joe Thomas was named to his fourth straight Pro Bowl Tuesday night. For a fourth consecutive year, left tackle Joe Thomas has earned a spot on the AFC’s Pro Bowl roster. The players for the NFL’s all-star game were revealed Tuesday evening on the NFL Network. Thomas is the first Browns offensive lineman to appear in four straight Pro Bowls since Pro Football Hall of Famer, the late Gene Hickerson, played in six consecutive all-star games from 1966-1971. Defensive back Frank Minnifield was the last Browns player to appear in four straight Pro Bowls. Minnifield played in four straight Pro Bowls from 1987-1990. In three of those seasons, he played opposite fellow Browns defensive back Hanford Dixon. In four years with the Browns, Thomas has blocked for three 1,000-yard seasons by a running back. During the 2007 and 2008 seasons, Jamal Lewis ran for 1,304 and 1,002 yards respectively. Through 15 games this year, Peyton Hillis has followed Thomas’ blocks for 1,164 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. Hillis was only the third player in team history to run for 11 touchdowns in a season and the first since Pro Football Hall of Famer, Leroy Kelly, to reach the mark in 1968. Prior to Thomas’ arrival in Cleveland, the Browns had just one 1,000-yard running back since Kevin Mack posted an 1,104-yard season in 1985. Reuben Droughns ran for 1,232 yards during the 2005 season and averaged 4.0 yards-per-carry. Since 2007, Thomas and the Browns have surrendered 105 sacks over 63 games. Opponents registered 100 sacks against the Browns during the 2005 and 2006 seasons, the two years immediately preceding Thomas’ arrival at left tackle. Thomas and the other NFL all-stars will return to Hawaii for this season’s game on January 30, 2011. After a one-year stint in Miami Florida, the game will again be played at Aloha Stadium in the state capital of Honolulu. LinkCongratulations, Joe!

JT makes it while Hillis doesn't? Edit: How could I forget vickers too?! I guess the same way the rest of the NFL did too.

Congrats to Joe!
And congrats to all of the alternates.... it's 4th alternate, but it's nice to see Haden getting his due, too.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Good for Joe, but he made it more on reputation than performance this season.
This has been his worst pro season since he arrived.

Surprised that Joe made it.
Not surprised that Hillis didn't. With Foster, CJ, and MJD in the conference - it is understandable that he didnt make it. Did he deserve it? yes he did.

Funny thing is that most OT's have struggled this year. JT wasn't as great as he was last year, but he was still very good this season. Definitely Pro Bowl worthy.

This is purely a popularity contest.
How the hell does Matt Schaub and Aaron Rodgers not make it?

The NFC has Matt Ryan, Michael Vick, and Brees. The AFC has Brady, Manning, and Rivers.
All are deserving, someone just has to be left.

I'd say Joe Flacco over Peyton this year

Just out of curiosity, why Flacco over Peyton? Is that purely based on team record?
Peyton has thrown for almost 1000 more yards this year, also has 6 more tds. and has completed 4% more of his passes.

And this one can't all be put on the fans either.
Logan Mankins made the team and started like 6 games. He got voted in by the players.

And just 5-6 years ago we had one of the worst offensive lines ever. Now we are getting selections to the pro bowl. Our o-line is in good hands with JT and Mack for the next 10 years or so.
Apart from Haden (who I thought should have been a first alternate or starter), we got represented quite fairly.

I would probably go with Flacco as well. Just because of that rough stretch peyton had. He had a good year, but did have 17 int compared to Joe's 9.

It was just a few years ago that our ONLY Pro Bowler since the return was Jamir Miller and we weren't sure that we'd ever see one again. We were all rabidly searching for the next Orlando Pace (or hoping that him buying a bar in Sandusky was a sign that he wanted to come home, lol) and dreaming of an offensive line that could open a hole every now and then. Today, we have arguably the best Left Tackle in the game who is a perennial Pro Bowler, next to a Left Guard who is now a Pro Bowl Alternate, who is next to a Center that should be getting Pro Bowl nods in the very near future. I'd like us to add that Carimi kid to the mix so that we can forget about the OLine for a little while

I'd be ecstatic with that pick as well....assuming we traded down into the 1st to get him and acquired some extra picks in the process much like with Mack in 09. There is absolutely no excuse to reach 15+ spots to select Carimi with a top 10 pick however.

I disagree. I think Lawrence Vickers got shafted. That guy is incredible at his job. Hopefully we'll have some winning seasons and he'll get some positive attention for everything he does. Unfortunately a guy playing a position that gives stats to others and doesn't generate its own doesn't get noticed on a perpetual losing team.

I agree; since we drafted him, Jamal Lewis had his best season since his 2000 yards in 2003, and then Harrison had those monster games near the end of last season, and now Hillis comes out of nowhere and has his breakout season.
I really don't see a better FB in the NFL right now. He definitely should have made starter/alternate in the AFC.

You have to think in terms of who's more important to their team. If you take Peyton Manning and put him in the Ravens' offense, you will get another MVP season. If you take Joe Flacco and put him in Indy's current offense, you will have the 2010 Buffalo Bills.

that's what mvp's are for. Pro bowls are individual numbers, and honors. Flacco is the real deal. Just remember how much that team struggled with boller in there. I'm not saying Joe is a better player than Peyton, but he's had a better year in my opinion. Thus he should go to the pro bowl.

If it's all about the numbers and honors, Peyton has thrown for more yards and tds, and has a higher comp %. The only numbers that Flacco has that are better are Ints and QB rating.

Congrats to Joe T for making the Pro Bowl. Now, if there was an Toilet Bowl award I think we would have a first teamer in St Clair. The Browns need to cut him and fix that side of the line.

I think Thomas may have actually played his best football this year. He blocked for a statue then two runners. Steiny was horrible and thanks to the right side the quarterback was always moving back and to the left to avoid the rush. Stat wise it was probably his worst year, but all things considering, it was his best.

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but that's the first time I've read or heard anywhere that Steinbach has had a horrible year.

He has really struggled with the bullrush and has been pushed back into the pocket quite often. Maybe the worst year of his career.

I don't know how anyone could bag on the left side of our line when they play next to the abortion that we call the right side.
Will someone PLEASE shoot St. Claire in the leg!? There were a few brave souls on here that defended him earlier in the season, but he's been just as bad as we thought.
Yes, I've turned this in a RT thread. Sorry.
GO JT! You got owned by John Abraham, but who wasn't?
