This is my first youtube upload. The sound is slightly off but the point is there.
I used to love football. But as I've grown older, it's becoming more and more difficult to watch. These are grown men getting millions of dollars a year to play a game. Yet they act like immature brats.
Here's an example of something I see EVERY WEEK: The Jets are trailing the Patriots 24-3 with just under 8 minutes to go in the first half. The Jest are at their own 37 yard line....DOWN BY 21 POINTS. Santonio Holmes catches a pass for 5 yards, and just watch his reaction........
REALLY??? You're down 21 points, you catch a five yard pass to make it 2nd and 5 and this is how you react???
Call me old-fashioned, but I'd like to see some class in football again.
I recommend you stop watching football then - that reaction happens almost every single play in every single game. Not that I agree with it (I agree with you), but it happens.
I find it hilarious when someone makes a tackle or play and they walk toward the oppositions side of the field with a swagger and attitude like they just won the game. It's like "You did what your supposed to do", go ahead high five your team mates or something, but why keep walking away from your side of the field?
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.
Take a look at the playoffs. Who should we root for? Rapists in Pittsburgh? Cheaters in New England? Loudmouth Braylon Edwards? - Why even bother watching.
I've taken a liking to college ball - might even let go of my Browns season tickets so that I can go to 3-4 Buckeyes games next year.
To me, that looked like Holmes got hit pretty good, so he was bouncing up as if to say "it'll take more than that to keep me down." Not saying I agree with it, that's just my perception.
But, Ryst, I do agree that it gets annoying. That's one of the prime reasons I always hated (and continue to hate) Corey Fuller. He'd give up a 50 yard pass, push the guy out of bounds, then trash talk him.
Seriously, the NFL encourages this type of behavior because this type of stuff has help make the NFL the most popular sport in the US. There are a lot of people who like that type of stuff. If it turned more people off to the sport then they would have made it a penalty a long time ago.
But I agree, I think it's stupid. Especially the way you posted. Being down by 21 points and you're acting like you're dominating. I say the same thing when I see any Defensive lineman sack a QB or stop a run for no gain and they do some sort of celebration but the team is down by 3 TD's. I always shake my head and say "um, look at the scoreboard and get back to your side of the field." And there has been many Browns players I've yelled at the screen that same phrase.
I am not counter-arguing here. But I know very, very few in my immediate family or social circle(s) that appreciates this kind of showboating, but I will say when THEIR players do it, it seems to be "no big deal."
I think it would be more refreshing to see someone like Rubin get up off the pile, quickly and smartly march back to the huddle, execute a military halt, make a facing movement in to the huddle, come to parade rest and await his next command.
I disagree with the original post. I think the problem is at the top. We all know the bottom line is the dollar not some intangible "for the game" or tradition. As long as the overall motivating factor is greed we will have a game that will continue to add rules upon rules, expand, play overseas. In essence, for me the game as a business is ruining the game as a sport.
And in no small measure the NCAA follows suit. Just look at the suspension of the Ohio State players as evidence.

Yes. With your and FloridaFan's example in mind I think of the somewhat common instances of a defensive player (typically a DB) making the "big hit" after a doing his part to allow a big gain and then acting like he's the man. Yeah ... nice highlight reel .... now shut up and get in the huddle.
