Well after a long interview process I have landed a defensive coordinator position at a large high school in Indiana. I am excited as can be but a little overwhelmed. Thank God I have until May to prepare.

I want to thank those of you on this board for showing me what true passion for this game is all about. I began coming to Dawg Talk when I was 13 years old and have met a lot of good people here. Hopefully this job goes well and i can climb the ranks to a head coach! My work is cut out for me, the d was 10th in the state in points given up.

Congrats!

Will you be doing any sort of teaching in a school too? I'm not sure if you are a teacher or not but I remember most of the football staff were teachers throughout the school system.

Good for you man - if it's your dream, take it as far as you can!

Congratulations to you. Small steps, big steps - they all lead to something. Best of luck.

Can you share the school name? In a pm maybe?

Way to go man!!!

You joined at 13....wow....

Doesn't seem like this place has been around that long, but then again, I am to the age where I can think or talk about something that happened 40 years ago and it seems to have happened 4-5 years ago.

Congratulations!

Now you can start climbing the ladder ..... and one day be the Browns defensive coordinator.

And some posters will call for your head after your first game .....

3-4 with a regular double A gap blitz look with a Cover 2 shell. Mask it with Cover 3 and Cover 4 looks for the QB and a zone blitz scheme to confuse the linemen.

In my opinion that's the worst defense to try and run an offense against. The QB is going to be constantly concerned with the pressure in his face and as a high schooler is not going to be thinking beyond keeping his face pretty.

Who's going to make out with the cheerleading captain if James Van Der Beek is in the hospital?

And btw...congratulations!

Dude, as crazy as it sounds, that is my system. Only difference is that I run a 3-5-3 / 3-4 Hybrid with the MLB bumping back to the 3-4 SS on occasion. Coverages are exactly what you mentioned as well as the zone blitzing scheme. We will get exotic at times and blitz 8 with a cover 1 as well. I'm not very conservative to say the least.

Congrats man! It's a rare group of people in this world that can work at something they actually love. You're lucky!

If ever I'm in Indiana, I'll drop by for a game.

Thanks a lot. Right now I'm debating on whether I should go to the press box or coach from the sidelines. Im geared more towards scheme and less on the motivation side, so I'm leaning towards the top. With that being said, do you guys think you lose some of your control for adjustments being in the press box?

I'm not really sure.. but if you're not gonna be that motivational guy... then go to the top anyway and just perfect ur defense from up there.

no matter what you do in life, it's important to understand who you are and be true to it.

if you're not a guy who is going to be rallying the troops and think you are best suited for a box-life DC, then go with it.

Congrats!

That's your alma mater right? Gotta figure out a way to stop Delta. Get to work!

Gavin, yes it is. They gave up 60+ to Delta last year. We start out every season against Delta, so I think a respectable showing there would go a long way in turning this defense around.

Pretty cool!

Good luck! I love watching an aggressive defense and football is meant to be entertaining.

btw...I know you're not looking for unsolicited advice but since we think alike....if an opposing QB gets hot, throw in a split back side coverage (weak side zone / strong side man) or vice versa. That'll mess with his reads for a while and introduce some prethrow doubt.
