Just thought I'd share that our local University of Akron Zips beat #1-ranked Louisville 1-0 in the NCAA College Cup Final today to become soccer's national champions! I know soccer isn't too big here and overall, but Akron has built-up a pretty good following in the past few years.
Congratulations to Coach Porter and the team for a fantastic season! Go Zips!

Go Zips! I feel really good for them...coming so close last year only to fall short in a shoot out. Not to be denied this year, however.
At least one team from Northeast Ohio played today with heart and grit.

My niece goes to Akron, she's all excited. I REALLY wanted Maryland to get past Michigan but they lost in double OT.. they would have played Akron in the semi's... Oh well, I like when small schools win.. except Duke.

As a Kent State grad, this upsets me But, also as an Akron grad, this makes me happy. Congrats Zips!
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

This win might boost recruitment up a bit, but make no mistake, Akron has been on the cusp for the last several years. If anything, being so close for so long might have gotten them the recruitments to put them over the top.

Yea, I agree. This was NOT a one year fluke for those who don't follow soccer. Akron has been competing on a high national level for a few years now.. heck if anything this could bring them all the attention they need from other schools hoping to lure away coaches....

Yeah, I was talking more on the lines of being able to stay on top for a good number of years because of continued recruiting success. Should of clarified that a bit!
Coach Porter seems dedicated to staying here so I think we'll be in the mix for a few more years!
