Yeah, it's cold and slushy and windy and dark and nasty....but to hell with the negative; what do ya LIKE about winter?

Football

Christmas

Sled riding

Watching it snow

Watching wildlife

Looking at seed/plant catalogues to plan for the spring

Last but not least.....just noticed this again a moment ago---drinking water out of the faucet comes out chilled to the perfect temperature for drinking!

I love to cozy up with the hubs and baby in front of a fire and watch a movie.

I love snow. Seeing my munchkin playing in the snow is just about the most perfect thing in the world to see.

While I hate wearing all the stuff that comes with winter, I love being out in the cold (well, for smallish periods of time anyway)

Football

Holidays - Christmas, New Years, Valentine's Day, and especially Nation Kazoo Day (Jan. 28th, in case you were wondering)

I get to spend more time with our best friends - they work every weekend in the summer and we work during the week.

But, perhaps the BEST thing to love about winter: My daughter was born in the winter (Feb. 2008)

Just a few things I love about winter.

Hockey season

Seeing the once or twice snow of the season.

Managing a few dozen rounds of golf in the months of Dec, Jan,Feb.....something cool about that.

Watching Christmas Story about 10 times over the next few weeks.

Things I like about Winter:

- Cold weather / Snow
- Christmas
- No yardwork (I'd rather shovel snow than cut grass)
- Football
- Hockey
- Cold weather food
- My birthday (I'm a January baby)
- Sledding
- Riding my snowmobile
- Hiking / snow shoes
- A crackling fire in the fireplace
- Cleveland Orchestra's Severence Hall concerts

That's all I can come up with off the top of my head, but I'm sure I could come up with more if I thought about it. I love Winter!

I love how beautiful it looks everywhere with 6-8 inches of snow on the ground. It covers up all the imperfections and everything looks so pure and clean.

I love it when it bitter cold and blustery outside and I set in my house thanking God that my family and I are fortunate to warm and safe. That's not so for a lot of people around the world and even in our own country.

I love the Christmas Season and everything that goes with it, that is except for the Christmas shopping.

I love walking in the woods at night when there's a few inches of snow. It's enough to reflect the moon and light up the way. The woods looks so much different at night.

I love getting toys for Christmas. But that doesn't happen anymore.

I love giving the gifts that I hated shopping for.

J/C...

I love winter too, but up here in MPLS it gets to the point of just being brutal with the temps...

You guys should see it here today... biggest snow storm in 20 years... MSP airport is shut down.... Just crazy... Reminds me of back home....

Sled riding for sure!

The extra exercise and time to think that comes w/ shoveling snow.

The extra sports radio and time to think that comes w/ being in bumper to bumper Columbus rush hour traffic. Of course this occurs w/ just a single drop of rain as well.

I love that extra quietness that comes at night when the snow is falling. There's not a sound to be heard anyway, but if there's snow falling it's THAT much quieter.

I also STILL catch myself doing something I started doing as a kid. Looking up into the falling snow at night w/ your hands extended upward makes it look like you are flying throug a starry sky. I'm Superman!!!

Oh yeah, and Christmas songs. I love Christmas songs! Can't believe I hadn't thought of that since I've had them playing in the background most of the day. It came to mind just now as I'm practicing some Christmas songs for a little party in the apartment building my mom lives in. Community room thing.

The old folks get together for a pot luck Christmas ham dinner, (which is a bunch of grandmas cooking so the pot luck it is golden), and me and some friends show up with a couple of guitars, bass, a recorder/flute for some singing, joking, magic tricks, (the recorder player is also a magician), and generally a good time for all. (It's the kind of thing I hate to go to but love it once we kick-off).

Yeah, Christmas songs. When I was a kid my dad played Christmas records for weeks leading up to Christmas. Loved it then and love it now.

Another one I would add to my list too. Neater than hell.

As a kid it was always fun to build snow forts to ward off invading kids from the next block. We'd spend all day building the fort and stocking up on snowballs for the next days invasion.

One week they would invade us, the following week it was us who had to lay siege to their fort.

The quietness thing that someone mentioned would be way up there for me. It's truly amazing.

Also, with snow on the ground, it never quite gets pitch black dark. If I wake up at night to go to the bathroom or check on the baby, it's neat to look outside and nothing is moving, but you can still see everything.

Football. Plain and simple.

I would much rather shovel than mow. 2 years ago I bought one of those huge snowblowers, so I love using it. I'll have no problem getting my driveway, sidewalks, and those of my neighbors.

Climbing in bed at night into flannel sheets. Chilly on the outside, but toasty under the blankets.

The cold and brutal winters really make me appreciate the summers. When it's 90 and humid, I absolutely refuse to complain about it. Makes me want to spend as much time outdoors as possible then.

Snowfall = can't pooper scoop after the dogs (well, I can, but I don't )

I like snow. I like to plow it - not shovel - plow.

I like pulling my daughter and her friend/friends behind the 4 wheeler. (21 miles last year in 1 afternoon - or was it 22?)

Making a fire in the barn - and being toasty warm.

Taking pictures of the trees with fresh snow on the branches.

Building snowmen, or digging tunnels in the snow with my daughter.

Coming in from outside, into our 66 degree house and saying "ahhh, so warm in here" while my wife is dressed in 4 layers with a blanket on her saying "it's so cold in here."

Racing my bro in law - or whoever else shows up - around the banks of the pond. Just like a high banked race track.

Tracking deer is a lot easier.

Going skiing. 42 years old, and missed skiing about 3 years in my life. (well, started when I was 5, so discount the first 5 years). Gotta thank mom and dad for that - when I first went, at 5, dad "taught" me how to ski. First time I hit a tree and was bawling. He got to me, picked me up and said "you're not even half way down, and you aren't walking the rest of the way. Now ski." Hated him at the time - love him for it now.

Cruising around on our snowmobiles. They sure aren't new - but the do okay for where we ride.

Knowing a big storm is happening, and letting my daughter stay up late, watching tv with me.

I'll be thinking of all you winter-lovers tomorrow evening/night when I'm sitting on I-480 for, oh, three hours trying to get home from work. And I will be cursing you because I believe that - somehow - people who love winter are responsible for winter.

I don't eat Chili all that much in the summer.....but soup.....I live on the stuff. I don't care what time of the year it is, I eat it 6 times a week minimum....I eat it for breakfast at least once a week.

things I like about winter:

-75 degree days
-Sunny weather (not much rain in the winter here)
-Being able to wear my long sleeve shirts on the few weeks it dips into the 50s.
-only have to mow the grass every couple months
-get to play basketball outside without feeling like I'm going to die from heat exhaustion.

Heheh .... I was just going to post something along those lines. It was nice getting on this past Sunday for an early round of golf. I had to lose the sweatshirt by the 14th hole though.

Things I like about winter:

1. It gets so cold here that the branches of every tree are often fully coated in sparkling frost, like something out of a Clay-mation special.

2. It gets so cold here that I don't even have to bother trying to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit in my head. It's friggin' freezing either way.

Okay, so the last one is a bit of a silver-lining situation.

I love that too, but those 40mph gusts of single digit wind blowing up my bunghole kind of ruined the mood.

Heavy, heavy snow storms
Watching football being played in heavy snow
Playing football in heavy snow
Snowboarding
Sledding
Driving in the snow
Hearing Chicagoians whine that they have rough snowy winters here (Pffffttt)
Shoveling snow (though I don't have to - live in a condo)
Wearing coats and winter hats
Getting the last two weeks off of work in December
Going outside at midnight after a big snow and enjoying the quiet (when I'm back in Ohio)

I've always told people it's my favorite season.....now that I have a motorcycle, I want it to be warm again.
